Blue screen error

Postby Shao Feng-Li » Mon Oct 01, 2007 7:02 pm

I'm getting an error when I try to play games. It's happened so far with Silk Road and Halo.

This is also recent. Nothing like this ever happened before I re installed the OS on this computer.

I'm on a Dell Inspiron|E1705 (1 gig RAM and 8 megs vid memory.)

The Blue Screen of Death. You have my condolences.

You say it happens while you are playing your game?
Have you checked to make sure you meet the minimum software and hardware requirements for the game?

I'd also check the game forums to see if anyone else is having a similar problem - they may also have a solution. It could be a bug in the game. If so, the forums will probably have info on it.

The BSoD can be caused by several things:
1. Your OS is not stable. This maybe fixed by running Windows Setup again. You can do that by running setup.exe from your windows cd, if you have one. You may need to boot from the CD to accomplish that.

2. Your graphics card isn't good enough to handle the games. You maybe able to fix that by downloading the latest drivers for your card from the manufacturer's home page. Dell typically uses NVIDIA graphics cards. Both Dell and NVIDIA's websites should be able to tell you which card you have. Worse case is you'd need a new card.

3. I'm sure other things can cause it too.

I really hope you don't only have 8 MB of video memory...XD;;;

Um, I Googled that DLL file and got this thread:

Maybe that will be of some help?

Last month, I must've got it like 4 times and ALL I did was minimize WoW on the screen :/ I too, have a Dell. Weird thing is it like NEVER happened to me up until then :/ Sometimes I had an extra program running but usually I can have a game open and the net and be fine.

It just goes along with my theory that comps hate me and always have since they always like to pull weird, abnormal stunts on me >_<

Before you take anyones advice, call Dell, see if you have your warranty in effect, and let them do it. if not, this is what i would do:

That DLL is associated with the driver for your video card, so it may be a diver error.

Go to your Video cards manufacturers website and download the newest drivers they have there.

If the problem persists then try doing a clean install of the games and drivers (go into safe mode, remove the driver from the device manager, uninstall the game while your there, restart, and then reinstall the driver from the files you downloaded).

If that doesnt fix it, go to download.com and search for "memTest" its free, download it, and run it in safe mode. If you only have an 8mb video card, its more than likely your video card shares your ram for memory, if it doesnt, o well, running this is till a good idea for alot of reasons. If while running the program comes up with even one error, one or all of your RAM sticks are bad and need to be replaced. If it comes up with no error then its your video card, and that would have to be replaced.

no you cant lol, i didnt add that up when i was typing. and you dont need a floppy for memtest. it runs on windows, all it does is sends data to your ram and see if it comes back.

See if you can reserve a certain amount of memory to your graphics chip, that might help some. but yea... man.... build a desktop

If I am reading this right, that means you have 8 megs of dedicated graphics memory. The rest comes from shared memory that the rest of the system can also fight for.

I see... Well that stinks. I ought to upgrade my RAM then.

I can actually run Halo with highest settings at 800x600 and windows media player at the same time.
