skylender wrote:"And he gave unto Moses ... two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God." "And the tables were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, graven upon the tables." Exodus 31:18; 32:16.

God wrote the ten commandments with his finger, what you're saying is, we can sin and the commandments don't matter anymore.

Nope, I'm saying that when we sin because we're not perfect, we can be forgiven.

"Sin is the transgression of the law." 1 John 3:4.

Sin is breaking God's law.

Yep. What's your point?

The law of God is perfect,

And human beings certainly aren't.

to break the law is to sin and sin is evil, and tell me friend, what does evil come from?

Again, what's your point?

it is impossible to commit a sin that is not condemned by the ten commandments. the commandments cover the whole duty of man, nothing is left out...

See above.

Yes jesus died for our sins, but that doesn't mean we can just sin for the sake of it...

Certainly not. When we're saved, the Holy Spirit comes into our hearts and we'll want to live righteously because it pleases the God who saved us in His love and mercy.

"Think not that I am come to destroy the law. ... I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. ... Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled." Matthew 5:17, 18.

Jesus DID not destroy the law, he kept it himself.

Because he was God, and therefore perfect. None of us are either.

"The wages of sin is death." Romans 6:23. "He shall destroy the sinners." Isaiah 13:9. "Whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all." James 2:10.

Exactly! Which is why it's futile to try to save ourselves by not sinning. We all fail not just in one point, but in innumerable ways!

You cannot break a law, and think you'll be saved, The Ten Commandment law is the guide we must use in finding our way to God and holy living.

Jesus is the way I find my way to God.

I like your thinking, so i guess if i lust after a woman or rape a cow, and don't ask for forgiveness i'll be ok right?, so i guess i can just go rob a bank up the street, it doesn't matter, you're so right, i was mistaking my bad. i'll never ask for forgiveness ever again.

What I think you need to do is ask for forgiveness for the first time; not forgiveness for some specific individual sin, but forgiveness for all of your sins, past, present, and future. Because right now, if you're putting your trust in keeping the commandments to get you into heaven, I'd say you don't have any forgiveness for your sins, and it's only by putting your trust in Jesus that you can get it.

Yes, I am doing a bit better. Got my work done as fast as possible and opened up three Bibles and have been reading since. One in the Psalms, one in the back index looking up topics, obviously relating to this: sin, suicide, depression, helplessness, etcetcetc. Thank God for Student Study Bibles. Then my third, I'm using to look up the verses listed in the second. NLT: LASB.

When I said I had no time for the Lord, previously, I meant it. That's why I've been so spiritually dead, no time for what's truly important. Talking to my moms about it, one suggested I set myself a timer every half hour when doing homework so I can use some time reading the Bible and get refocused. The other suggested I take more time reading when I wake up/when I go to bed. Even if the former conversation was rough, and I didn't explain my situation well (many "I DON'T KNOW"s as answers to questions) it still helped some.

It's good to know I can rely on you, Kitsune, Kiku, my best friends. And I'm so glad you finally decided to join, Kit.

And I actually imputted a personal inside joke that only the formerly mentioned Ksquared would maybe understand.

Radical Dreamer wrote:Skylender...wow. Just wow. I can't even make a full reply to your post. I'm floored, honestly. Yes, God wrote the Ten Commandments. And have you ever lied (no lying)? Ever disrespected your parents? Ever been jealous of someone for something they owned and you didn't?

If you've ever done any of those things (along with any other sins I didn't mention), then consider yourself a sinner like the rest of us humans, please. And I don't know what's with all of this, "You have to be as pure as you can" to get into heaven business, because as far as I know, we're saved by grace, not by works. No human can be "pure". We've all sinned, and we all fall short of God's glory. I don't even know why I'm trying to discuss this. Clearly, we've gone beyond what makes sense and into a different topic entirely.

You've missed my point completely, yes we are all sinners, yes jesus saves, but should we sin on purpose and just say: "oh well jesus will forgive me, so i'll just do whatever i want"

I'm not implying anything. Here's what I'm asserting, straight-up.

If we've accepted Christ as our savior and asked for our sins to be forgiven through His sacrifice on the cross, then no, asking for forgiveness for each individual sin is no longer needed.

It can be helpful to pray a prayer of forgiveness when we sin, but properly thought of, this isn't obtaining forgiveness for the first time but rather laying claim to the forgiveness we already have in Christ and praising and thanking God for his mercy and love in forgiving us and not rejecting us even when we fail.

If we actually needed to ask for forgiveness for each individual sin in order to get to heaven, we would never be certain of our salvation.

For the BAJILLIONTH time, NOBODY is saying we should sin on purpose. Why do you keep thinking that we're saying that?

I really don't think you have a complete grasp on Christian doctrine.

Pardon me, nobody here has ever said anything remotely close to implying that we should sin on purpose. I've actually said the opposite.

And according to you, Jesus doesn't save, keeping the law saves.

At this point I will honor Okami's repeated requests for people to stop arguing, as I wouldn't want her to feel this is her fault. I have to leave for Bible study anyway. This thread will probably be locked by the time I get back. Skylender, I'm going to be praying for you, because after reading your posts today I'm pretty certain that you have no understanding of what Christianity is really about and how we find salvation and forgiveness. I say that not to put you down but because it's very sad to see a person who obviously has some familiarity with the Bible and yet misses God's point so totally. Goodbye.

Nope, I'm saying that when we sin because we're not perfect, we can be forgiven.

Uh i know that, did i imply anywhere that forgiveness is impossible?

Yep. What's your point?

Breaking the law is wrong?

Again, what's your point?

Figure it out.

And human beings certainly aren't.

Never knew that.

Exactly! Which is why it's futile to try to save ourselves by not sinning. We all fail not just in one point, but in innumerable ways!

I never said it was possible to save ourselves, i said we should try to ask forgiveness and TRY NOT TO SIN, I NEVER SAID IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO SIN!:shake:

I think you need to learn how to read, i know jesus is the way, without jesus we are lost, My point is the law is still important, think man.

Relaxed?
