Heroes Season 2

Postby Ingemar » Tue Sep 25, 2007 1:22 am

I think it deserves its own thread.

So the plot in bullet points--
Mohinder seeking cure/a following/funding for supposed virus that affects mutants. Not many fans, but propositioned by King Midas who works for the Company (Primatech). Mohinder says NO WAI DOOD.

Molly lives with Matt who sometimes lives with Mohinder when he's not out of the country on a lecture circuit (M&M&M?) Molly has dreams, perhaps of Mr. Worse Than the Boogeyman. Matt iz NYPD detective nau. Matt's marriage is over.

So is Nathan's, whose political career is over and is now a full time alcoholic who haet his mum and misses his bro.

Two Hondurans who want to sneak into America, not only for the excellent living conditions but so the girl (Maya) can find Suresh and hopefully cure her mystery power of killing people suddenly.

Takezo Kensei is a filthy Gaijin who pays other unfortunate Nihonjin to pretend they are Takezo Kensei. And everyone can smell a plot for Hiro to do all the heroing and "Takezo" (a Limey p**** BTW) to get all the credit.

Claire and Noah (*shudder*) enroll in a new school and product-place the Nissan Rogue. Claire is supposed to keep a low profile (=no cheerleading, no raising hands) and has some friction with the local Cheerleading captain. He meets some nonconformist boy that pushes her buttons like a cellphone AND HE CAN FLY!but she doesn't know that yet. And Noah is trying to help Matt and Mohinder FIGHT THE POWAH (tm).

Hiro's dad can speak English! AND HE'S DEAD!

Peter has less hair, less memory, but has nifty electroshock power and necklace with that funky symbol. And he's in Ireland.
Also,
Sylar didn't show up, but he's in two different previews--

1. "I have a shiny new toy, and she's aaaaall mine" (notice blood on his face, possibly ate someone's brain?)

2. Flirting with some babe. (Yeah, he really likes you for your, uh, "mind." Eheh).
That pretty much sums it up.

I hope they don't drag this part of the story on too long unless they actually develop the characters a bit. Not surprising that not too much happened, though - we were basically playing catch-up on what happened between seasons 1 and 2.

Well yeah, I mean, four months have gone by, and at the very least we've gotta know what's been goin' on.
I just hope that they develop the story past the "Sylar vs. Peter" arc and go past it.
I'd certainly love to see it again, but now that it's done, XD I wanna see what else they can do. Possibly the girl who can "kill a whole bunch of people at a time" vs. Sylar. XD See him get outta that one.
Also, any ideas on who killed Hiro's dad?
And any ideas on how's Ando going to play a part in this? I mean, usually he's a side character to someone who has powers (or can defend himself)

last year.

Not to nitpick, but I think you left out an important part, Ingemar
Mohinder seems to be deliberately baiting the company in order to get inside. What could they be planning?
They did a pretty good job re-establishing most of the characters, but I'm disappointed by a few things...
I wish we'd seen at least a little of what's happened to Niki, DL, and Micah.

Here's one thing I'm curious about that no one's brought up:
Why does Nathan have a full beard now?
...should that have been marked as a spoiler?
The guy who writes about TV stuff in our local paper thinks it was Mrs. Petrelli, but I think that's nuts. It's gotta be Mr. Badder Than The Boogie man from Molly's dreams, what with the constant use of the helix symbol. Personally, I don't think the killer is a character we've actually seen yet. I think a member of the previous generation of heroes is knocking off the rest, possibly as punishment for "loosing their way." It would certainly explain why Mr. Nakamura seemed so surprised by the killer's undisclosed identity.

I have read a theory about the killer:
That it is Nathan. Why would he suspiciously and angrily bump into Ando before Ando gave Kaito the paper?

He definitely has motive (believes Ma and Linderman are/were evil, blames Peter's "death" on them). It would also explain why the killer didn't also fall down.
Granted, for this to happen, the culprit must have access to more information than we thought possible/probable.

I dunno...
I still think that the use of the helix symbol indicates that the guy giving Molly nightmares is also the killer. That would rule Nathan out since he seemed to have been scaring Molly a LONG time before Nathan got depressed over Peter's "death." Plus, it would also indicate that the killer has some sort of psychic powers that Nathan has never shown signs of.

However, between the previously mentioned brush with Ando and his telling off his Mom, I wouldn't rule out the idea that Nathan is in league with the killer. I just don't think they're one and the same.

It was a question,so I don't think it counts as a spoiler.Though Hiro's father was rather shocked when he saw who it was, which suggests it was one of the others they were talking about.

I don't get NBC either. Satellite customers typically have the option of buying network feeds...or not. But, I get to watch Heroes thanks to the fact that NBC makes each episode available for viewing online the day after it premieres. I'm already thinking up some potential conspiracy plots after that first episode...you know who I think the killer was?
That flying kid, West (Wess?). The killer was rather short, 'least expected', and didn't fall. Hmmm. Have the Bennets really escaped the Company???
oh and...
No job + remorse + no wife and kids + alcoholism = you won't take care of little details like that.

Yes that, or perhaps he's trying to hide? He was a candidate for president so his face is pretty well known....

I actually wondered if the killer could fly, thus explaining his disappearance, but weren't there TWO blood platters? One around Mr. Nakamura, and one where the killer's body SHOULD HAVE been? That sounds more like regeneration than flying to me

Well, a new episode comes on tonight, so hopefully we'll see who's the culprit. Or, at LEAST get some clues as to who it was, or rule out who it wasn't.
It's probably one or the other. I don't recall seeing two blood spatters...just one big pool bleeding out from Nakamura (although I could have seen it wrong) But I'm leaning towards a flyer because even someone like Claire takes a little time to regen. (remembers when she jumped out of that window to escape the Petrellis.) Ando looked over the side pretty quickly and there was no one to be seen...not even running away. But it could be someone with an accommodating ability we have yet to see as well...another teleporter or something?...although, that would be a pretty sloppy way for a teleporter to kill.

Well, I kind of made an unwarranted assumption when I called it TWO splatters. You're right, there's only one, it's just MUCH larger on the side where one would assume the killer would have been.

Speaking of whom, I think we can safely rule out Nathan now. If he could somehow have been messing with his Mom from another room, I'm pretty sure Matt would have picked up at least a TWITCH from him. Anyway, since we couldn't see anyone else in the room with Mrs. Petrelli, that'd make this guy either a psychic killer or a teleporter AND invisible. You're right though, either one of those options would make shoving Mr. Nakamura a weird method of execution. Maybe he had some sort of ability that canceled the killer's out?

Well, debating aside, I REALLY like this episode. I was kind of surprised to realize how many characters still hadn't been fully connected by the end of last season, so it sort of threw me that Matt seems a little out of the loop concerning Hiro and the Petrellis. But that makes sense. Also, I like the idea of the twins having this sort of mutual power that they can only control together. Still, I can't quite figure out exactly what's happening. Do people die whenever Maya cries or whenever she's away from her brother or is it a combination of both or what?

And DUDE!!! Takezo Kensei can inst-i-heal!!! The whole episode, I was SURE they were going to kill him off so Hiro could play the role of Kensei for real, but... but... DUDE!!!

Kring said Kensei's power would have major implications for the Heroes world so I don't think they would do THAT too soon.

Yeah...I'm not really getting Maya's ability. It doesn't make 'physical' sense to me in that her shedding black tears would cause people around her to do the same and die. I hope they explain it, because otherwise it just seems like a very contrived ability to me.

And yes, I'm pleasantly surprised that Kensei didn't die...and that he isn't normal either. I like how they're handling that arch so far.

It seems the case with Maya is that 1). stress or 2). separation from Alejandro causes people to die. Tears I think are merely an aesthetic effect such as Isaac's eyes while painting.

On the other hand, Alejandro has the ability to suppress or reverse Maya's ability.
K, here's my take.
What I'm thinking is that, when Maya's stressed out, she has the ability to suck the oxygen out of the immidiate atmosphere around her. Cuz the lady didn't just, up and die, she sufficated. She grabbed her neck and fell to the ground slowly. The people in the van? Seemed asleep. That's sort of because, in the alternate future, a conversation brew that Mohinder and President Nathan (Sylar in disguise) talked about someone who could suck the air out of an entire facility. I think that was an elementary kid, but oh well. And her bro has the power to spress Maya's powers. I don't believe that she just can't be separated from her brother then her powers start to work. I believe she can control 'em, just like Peter's still not blowing up.

Also, we seem to be stuck on the fact that there's one killer. Why not two? And, here's something. Wouldn't Noah be on the hit list as well? Even though he was lower on the food chain than Mr. Nakamura and Mrs. Petrelli, he was still a part of the Company.

And!!! Sylar's memoryless!!! Holy crap. XD Will he return to his old head-splitting ways?
I have some predictions on my Livejournal:

http://funnibunney.livejournal.com

I accidentally saw a spoiler for Worse than the boogeyman. I hate it when I am right.

EDIT: I do not necessarily think that Sylar lost his memory. He could be confused (or faking it) at why he is wherever he is and be back to his old nasty ways in no time at all.

Speaking of which, I remember Tim Kring saying that he had five seasons worth of material. Given that the first season had the general message of "You can't fight fate" I think this means that everything will end up leading to the events in the episode "Five Years Gone" albeit with some modifications.

I have a question...
Has it really been established that Mr. Nakamura, Mrs. Petrelli and the others in their "group" were actually a part of "the company"? My recollection is that the show has been too vague about the origins of both for us to be certain what kind of connections are there.
answer
theres plenty of reason to belive that. 1) they were all tied in with linderman who for sure owns the company 2) Nakamura was with mr. barret when he first got clair as a baby. and there are other reasons.

Oh yeah, there's clearly a connection. However, what I question is if they're actually the heads of the company or just a group of powerful individuals who happen to have influence over what the company does. I don't think enough things have been explained for us to be certain about how this relationship works, and this is the sort of show that likes to slip twists into points of uncertainty
Also...

Saj wrote:
I agree. That kid just became a MAJOR suspect. He's got the motive, he's clearly the sort to take chances, and sure enough, he can fly (explaining how he could get from California to New York as well as the method of killing)! Still, that leaves the identity of Mrs. Petrelli's assailant a mystery.
General comments about the most recent episode, which I thought was a slight step down from last week
The Takezo Kensei portion was a bit of a disappointment, I think. I thought the sudden jump from wastrel to hero was a little TOO sudden. Well, at least Hiro's staying in the past a little while longer, so maybe the character development will even out in the coming weeks (I was also sad that they didn't show the fight with the angry ronin, though I can understand why a TV budget wouldn't allow it)

Well, now we know what happened to DL. Too bad.

So, what do you think Sylar's problem is? Has something really been done to him, or is he still just too weak to use his powers? Speaking of which, how could he steal Candice/Michelle's powers if his own aren't working?

Mohinder getting set up in Issac's old studio is kind of... contrived. Yes, I know it was part of the plan to snoop through the paintings, but still...

Speaking of the paintings, DUDE. I can't wait to see what leads us to THAT point. Will Claire tell West about Noah? (I need to rant, though, that my local newspaper spoiled most of the surprise in their episode summary. BAD paper! No biscuit!)
I have a question of wheter or not the entire end to the Sylar section of the episode wasn't just another one of Candace/Michelle's illusions.
After all since her power is to create illusions how do we know she didn't mess with Sylar's mind to make him THINK he'd killed her?

That is certainly a possibility; however one theory is that
he's suffering from the virus that only targets mutants; hence he cannot use any of his abilities nor his original "power" that somehow allows him to analyze and fix complex systems.
Because of events happening in real life (and yet another reference to Star Trek) it's probably likely that
Sylar really DID kill Candace.

Zachary Quinto (the actor) is going to be off to play as Spock (?!?!?!) in the upcoming Star Trek Movie. Having him take Candace's power is best both storywise and real life-wise because--

1. He had it in that "5 years later episode" and so far the show leans heavily toward the "fate" side in the spectrum of "fate vs. free will"
2. Missy Peregrym (the actress who originally played Candace) couldn't do this season because of some other acting commitments.
3. Therefore, a power like illusion is a useful way to keep a character in the story even if an actor can't make it.
4. Besides, it's been hinted that the real Candace is fat.
As for the other big story thread:
It's too soon, IMHO to conclude that West will kill Noah. We all know that Isaac's (why can't he just stay dead?) paintings are quite misleading due to lack of context. Furthermore, "the man in the horn rimmed glasses" is no longer a slam-dunk indication of Bennet's involvement (as far as who abducted him) because there is another HRG, that guy who is King Midas. Furthermore, the other man in the painting looks nothing like West.
I loathe my life; I would not live forever. Let me alone, for my days are but a breath.
