Ebay mostly. I know it's not the best place to buy stuff like that, but usually you can get a really good deal if you're meticulous about checking the description and the seller's feedback. Also, thisisanime.com is a great place to buy the Japanese imports, which are a great bargain if you don't care about getting the English dub. I recently realized that most of the collections my sisters and I bought off ebay originally came from This Is Anime.

[font="Trebuchet MS"][SIZE="4"][color="RoyalBlue"]FYE seems to have marked down some of their anime titles. I picked up Chobits and vol. 1 of "Ah! My Goddess" the other day for $29! I don't know about you, but that sounds like a great deal to me!
I'm kinda eBay bruised after my last excursion--I thought I was getting the "Perfect Collection" of Cowboy Bebop, but what I got was the bootleg version that was just copies of the original release DVD's. It looks authentic, but if you know what to look for, you can tell it's a copy! And to answer your question--no, I didn't send 'em back![/color][/SIZE][/font]

Heh...let ME do your anime shopping, and I can buy about 20 anime DVD's and a box of pocky for $80!
Granted, some of them may be used DVD's, but hey, at least the pocky's good.
Oh, while I'm on the subject guys, I may be preaching to the proverbial choir here, but don't be afraid of used DVD's! A lot of places like EBGames, FYE and GameStop have a great used DVD collection, and they have an almost zero tolerance for any surface scratches!
