Gedo Senki/Tales of the Earthsea.
Honestly, I didn't think it was half bad^^ Different, but still had a Ghibli feel to it. Wasn't the best though, but still wasn't bad at all. I honestly just think the criticism from Japan was just out of prejudice, just because it wasn't Hayao :/ My only criticism is how they used a female voice for a CLEARLY male character (I know they do that, but with this char, it sounded like something that would be somewhat feminine at the least, but not sounding like a total woman... Like where the woman VAs use their deep sounding voice. The opposite being in Mononoke where they used a male voice for Maro the wolf, although that almost works since she's old and wise, but still^^) Funny also, for that role, how they subbed the name as 'Cob' when you could clearly hear 'Kumo'... Eh fansubs (yet they had the Australian english language bundled), what can ya do?^^

i will definitely pursue Heat Guy J. it is a solid action series with cool characters, a simple plot, and an interesting animation.

After I finish Figure 17...
OH YES. I have to say, my first impressions of this anime were very positive. The series starts with a shy, timid eight year old girl named Tsubasa who lives with her dad in Hokkaido. Her mother died when she was young, and she's been very reclusive since. It felt very much like a Ghibli film when I started, and I was already very impressed.
Then, things became very strange. Very quickly.
Suddenly, (in typical anime sci fi fashion) a spaceship lands and a huge monster comes to attack while an alien policeman who piloted the ship suddenly transforms to fight the monster but is defeated. Tsubasa runs into the ship for cover but is ultimately cornered. With no hope she screams in fear when a metallic metal fuses with her body turning HER into a super being which defeats the monster.
I was almost ready to hit the stop button and return the film as I felt, "Well, the characters are grand, but this whole science fiction part feels WAY too strange". But before I was going to return it, I decided to read some reviews on Netflix to see if this series was sci-fi focused or on the normal life of Tsubasa. And it turns out, the latter is true. The actual fight and sci-fi scenes only last for 10 minutes in each hour long episode (yes, they're an hour long). So, I held my breath, and I've decided to keep going with this series for the characters themselves. I entire science fiction part of it feels forced unfortunately, but I have faith that I may very well love this Anime regardless.

I'm up to Episode 15 on Seto no Hanayome.
This may be one of the best comedies ever. Some of the episodes have left me literally gasping for breath. There's just something about Merman Yakuzas...
I do have to say, I do know that some of what I am seeing is parody of Yakuza movies, a genre I haven't seen much of (I assume they resemble Chinese, Pilipino and Korean gangster flicks, which I have seen, but I just haven't seen any Japanese movies in the genre). After watching this, I will have to go looking for some Yakuza stuff.

I really don't much like the Funi voice staff... They're way too... Um... Cartoony, I guess... It's not too bad, though, and I like to multitask, so I won't be watching the subs...
It seems sort of interesting so far, but the over-the-top speeches and dramatics mean it won't be one I share with my non anime loving friends...
