Beck Question

Postby ilikegir33 » Fri Jul 20, 2007 2:45 pm

I really want to see Beck Mongolian Chop Squad but I'm wondering why Funi rated it TV-MA? It doesn't look like it's in the same league as Speed Grapher and Afro Samurai.

Strangely enough, its more or less the language, there's a couple of moments where's there's more cursing than an over-rated MTV reality show.

There's like one moment where there's this girl thats almost sorta naked, and at one point our hero Koyuki is skinny-dippin with his girl, but thats everything I can think of.

So what age rating would you give it?

MA? Really?

Yeah I would say it would have to be for the language. Otherwise I can't see why it would be MA. I love Beck. It's a great show with great characters that act like real people and not anime characters. There is some minor violence, but it is for story reasons and isn't graphic. As far as what rating I don't know the criteria.

I thought that this would be a great title for my son who is practicing with his bass guitar. So I watched the first volume to preview it before giving it to him. The language is indeed very raw thoughout the whole volume (not just a little here and there but a lot everywhere). Needless to say, I've axed it.

Unfortunately if you tried to put it in a movie theatre it would get an R. I really don't get why they used such heavy language, I think they were trying to make it sound "authentic," but in the end its like a nerd who gets his hands on a 50 Cent album and tries to act gangsta afterwards. Chaulk it up to cultural misunderstanding, in RPG's, this is what we call a "bust," or "critical fumble,"

I would get it nonetheless, the show for the most part is a good influence to keep on practicing your instrument. If your in an environment where you wouldn't want other people to hear such harsh language, just watch it on your comp with headphones is all I can suggest.

Yup, pretty much.

I mean in Japan it probably snuck through because the cursing is in english. Here it is a different story. It is profane the most (unfortunately) in the first episode.

I wish people would give it a shot beyond that...its a great story about people.

I think maybe it would go the way of Trinity Blood in reverse. The first vol. is TV-MA with subsequent vols. being TV-14.

There's more "f" words in this series than there are crayons in a 5,638,276,589 pack of crayons. Okay, so I exaggerate, but I'm not exaggerating when I say there are a lot of "f" words in this series. What makes it even worse is that these "f" words are all in English, even in the sub. You see, there are several English speaking characters who have very foul mouths.

Additionally, there is the scene already mentioned in which one female character skinny dips. Also, towards the end, there's a female fan of the band who takes her top off and waits for one of the band members in his tent. Still later, the same character takes off her top at a concert. Overall, it probably justifies the heavy rating. The language is simply too heavy to permit any rating lower.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

yeah its just the swearing, is not pervasive in every episode, just in the first, and then it pops up a couple more times. But other than that, pretty much all you see is life from a teenagers point of view, and its my policy not to let life itself offend me :)
