I'm having very mixed feelings on this. While I loved Spider Man 2 and called it the best live action super hero film of all time, which was saying quite a bit, I'm worried.

In one case, the films might be of the same high quality as of Spider Man 2, or sink lower then Spider Man 3. And based upon my experience with non-stop sequels, I don't think this is very good.

Maybe they'll be kind of like the Batman movies? More like continuations on a theme, or story arcs, rather than sequels.

Being like the Batman movies is what I am worried about. It took Batman Begins to save the Batman series from suckdom. After Returns it went downhill.

I'm still waiting to see #3...maybe they just wanted to pit more villains against Spidey but couldn't considering how many they must've thrown in during #3.

As long as Kirsten Dunst isn't in them, I'm cool with it.

It was probably inevitable. Hopefully they'll use some cool villains they haven't touched yet and make some decent films. I hope for material closer to 2 than 3, but they'll probably be entertaining films regardless.

:(. I really hate it when a series just keeps going and going forever because of money, without any idea from the writers of an ultimate direction (although this criticism can be leveled on American comics in general, so maybe it shouldn't be a surprise to see comic book movies follow the same path -_-). While part 3 was less than satisfying as an ultimate ending to the series, I doubt that the studios want to make more movies to rectify that problem.

I heard on IGN that she doesn't want to sign up for the next 3. Personally, I hate it when actors get changed for different movies. I mean it can be pulled off with say, actors playing James Bond and Batman, they just tend to work. But when a character or 2 has to be replaced is just... I don't know :/ It's why I hate movies where they make a 4th sequel with a COMPLETELY different cast because either some died or no one wants to come back for yet another one :/

Agreed.

Personally, I want them to give Gwen Stacy a chance and NOT kill her. That would set the movies apart from the comics in a snap.

Yes, but some of the Ultimate permutations as of late have shown signs of being more organized. My hope was that the films would follow this pattern. At least they can't endlessly reuse villains (or we can hope they won't) but they have a large pool from which to draw.

For the record, I utterly agree with you about directionless series.

I don't mind it when the actor sucks (like in the case of Kirsten Dunst).

I wish they'd do more of a remake, I wasn't a fan of how they made Spiderman. Maybe it was because it was mostly a young spidey, but Spiderman in Marvel Civil War (which I've been reading lately) is sooooo much better than how he's portrayed in the films, and I don't mean fighting ability.

I'm not so sure about this, Spider-Man is really the only superhero that's been embraced by the American people...........I'd really hate to see it drag out into sequal after sequal of b-grade movies.

Spidy 3 was showing the first signs of it. Three could've been fantastic if they just would've gotten rid of sand-man that way we could've focused more on venom and harry and peter's relationship, but no, they insisted on the "cram as much crap" as we can strategy into it and ruined it.

While I'm at it, can I just rant about how stupid it was when harry got his memory back and then just went berserk all over Mary Jane? That was just so.......stupid and ruined a good plot. Hello, Parker had been dissapointing MJ the entire movie so she goes to Harry for help and walla there's Harry to give her comfort, they spent time to rebuild there relationship so they should've taken it a step further and had MJ reject peter for harry, that would've been awesome.

But nooo..........Harry goes all berserk and forces her into his freaky plans and ruins that relationship, it just totally betrayed those laughs that the audience had as they were playin around in the kitchen, why ruin a good in-movie date? lol

In the end, MJ chooses Peter (again) but Harry's gone, I mean, there's not that much of a mystery to her choice when her only other option is dead.
Just my 2 cents.

I hope so. S3 was such a disappointment (and they killed the cute guy... go fig). *rant* Venom deserved more screen time, darnit.

I, for one, look forward to the day we can see Spider-Man IV: The Quest for Peace in theaters.

Spider-Man 3 was horrible. Unless they've learned from their mistakes (which they never seem to do), I can't see this being a good idea.

*sigh* while it was entertaining Spiderman 3 did fall short so yeah i hope for either more action (and more venom) less romance or just a movie that follows the comics well enough to tell a good story

I'm pretty leery of this. When I look at series that go past the trilogy mark, they tend to go downhill after that, and sometimes the third part of the trilogy hints at that (i.e. the Star Wars prequels, Superman III and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace, the Schumacher Batman movies, etc...). The only exception that I can think of are those movies that are based on a book/novel series, and strictly follow the plot of the book/novel (such as the Harry Potter movies), but the Spider-Man movies aren't part of that exception.
