HD TV laptop

At to clear up some confusion...

A friend of mine said that computer monitors have always been HD. I know he included my laptop screen in that.

I have a tv out put thingy and a white colored port right next to the typical blue one for another monitor. The white colored port is supposed to be an HD thing...

So basically, can I use this thing as an HD TV?

Or do I need a real graphics card? Integrated can really... well you know.

Whoa... the Inspiron | 1705 is no longer available from Dell 0_o Of course, the one they replaced it with has built in web cam and mic.... and numeric key pad... optional colors...

To my knowledge they are HD, but you would still need an HD tuner card to watch HD. And in order to watch TV on any computer you need a tuner card. Tuners for laptops can run from 50 to over a hundred depending on brand and features.

Oh, ok. So maybe I'll go get one of those since my normal TV will be obsolete pretty soon XD

If you had a model number or a picture, we could probably help out more.

And many laptops no longer support PCMCIA cards. You'd have to get a Firewire or USB tunner if you don't have a slot.

I think I have slots for one of those cards.

I got a Dell Inspiron|E1705... which they no longer make XD Probably got the last one that is merely Vista ready.

I wouldn't wanna watch HD on a laptop screen, I don't think. They always seem make the colors look a little weird.

Looks like you might have been looking at the S-Video Out port. Just my guess. You would not be able to watch external video feeds with that port.

I mean this port: (circled in red) What the heck do I use it for? XD (I'm not sure how to use the s-video out either)

Not with that one either. thats for hooking up digital displays, LCDs and such.

You don't have a video in port. Only high end laptops where ever equiped with video tuners. You'll have to buy one. 40 to 100 XD

All those ports are for a different display. If I want anything coming in, I gotta buy an add-on. Fun.
