I think it was a good idea airing Final Fantasy:The Spirits Within yesterday since
it will have gotten people ready for next week's premiere of Ani-monday with
Ghost In The Shell:Stand Alone Complex,Solid State Society.

I thought that too. Looks like they're actually putting some serious thought into Ani-monday's promotion.

I have too say, though, I'm not too wild about that commercial they've been airing. It looks like they've been paying WAY too much attention to Adult Swim's bumpers.

Oy...why GITS: SAC??? I really don't like Ghost in The Shell! I never got into it. Besides, it could just be my eyes, but it looks as though they stretched the picture from Letterbox to fullscreen format, which I hate--why the heck they didn't show it in the normal format is beyond me.

So far, Ani-Monday is not sitting well...

To really understand the movie, you at least have to see all of GITS:SAC 2rd GIG.

I guess Adult Swim is laughing right about now. They didn't get rights to the movie and Sci Fi Channel goes and edit the movie from letterbox format to fullscreen format.

I hope that they learn from this. But to the ones that don't remember the days that Sci Fi Channel did air anime.

They would do stuff like this alot.

Why would they do something like stretch the picture? I think every other movie they air that's in Letterbox isn't changed. "Star Trek: Generations", for example.

Who knows why they stretch it.

But this how Sci Fi Channel use to think about showing anime on tv. It doesn't matter, as long as you throw it up there, people will be happy with it.

Most of the time, I don't have a problem with small edits and small things, but they would do this alot.

I had really hope that they learn from Adult Swim.

But I guess not. But this just the first week and we will just have to wait and see next week.

Well, besides the needless full-screen stretching they pulled last night, I'm really excited about this. Solid State Society was AWESOME!

I don't see what the big deal is about the Full Screen...

I admit I was watching Bleach, but I switched back and forth XD Next week I plan to watch but I haven't seen GITS: 2nd GIG very much... >_>

CN showed .Hack:Legend of the Twilight in full screen... Maybe it was just the format they were given? O_o

A. it look funny and you can tell they had to pan and scan

B. As Josh said and I agree. Looking at it, hurt my eyes. You could tell they stretch it.

It was more annoying to look at then just being nick-picking about it. There was a few times, that I had to change the channel, because I started to feel sick from watching it and my eyes started to hurt.

I will just have to get the dvd and watch it then.

You would have to really sit down and watch it for a long time, before it would make you feel funny or to me at least.

I think there was like one little edit in the whole thing and other then stretching the format.

And that's a good thing. But I hope Sci Fi Channel doesn't do their old tricks again with anime. If they do, then you are not going to get alot of anime fans or newcomers to watch that block.

We will just have to see, how they handle next week, when they will start to air anime series.

I don't think they are doom, just because of this. I want to see Sci Fi Channel to do well with this. But they better be on the ball and not mess up too much.

Who knows, what format Bandai gave Cartoon Network for .Hack, but GITS:SAC doesn't have a fullscreen format, they always made the eps and this movie in letterbox.

Well, when its stretch out like that, it looks funny. What they did was, took the letterbox format and just stretch it, so that it would look like it was in fullscreen.

Watching it was like having a new pair of glasses on and things look wrap around and funny looking to me.

I THOUGHT it looked a little... off.

I'm a little concerned for the future of Ani-Monday, but not because of the shape of the screen. First, Solid State Society seems like a REALLY risky choice for the kick-off. I mean, I enjoyed it, but I've seen both seasons of Stand Alone Complex, so I understood everything that was happening. Everyone who hasn't would have had NO idea what was happening, which doesn't seem like a good way to attract new viewers right off the bat. Granted, I guess it was a good choice if they deliberately wanted to pull in those Adult Swim viewers who DID see the show, but I'm pretty sure most of them would have watched anyway.

Speaking of which, I'm REALLY not liking how SciFi seems to be trying to imitate the attitude of Adult Swim with their promotional bumpers. All those silly, re-dubbed Ghost in the Shell clips and the intentionally juvenile announcer... I admit, some of them were kind of funny, but I think the whole thing is a really bad idea. Aside from the fact that I've been sick of the way Adult Swim does this sort of thing for a while now, they've actually got a whole mountain of COMEDIC shows to justify such an attitude. SciFi's current library is pretty much all serious, making the tone of these bumpers all the more inappropriate.

Still, it's pretty early in the game to act like I know what they're thinking...

Wow, well thier kick off wasnt bad, other than the vast minutes of stupid commercials to kill time.

Ill probably have to pick up Solid State Society when it gets released here. It was pretty good, same ol GitS political mumbo jumbo on who is who and what not, standard, but had its action worth in there...

I actually thought the bumps they did for Ani-Monday were a nice change of pace from the AS bumps. :thumb:
The only questionable one was the one that they made from the original
GITS movie, but since that was relatively short..
As far as the Solid State Society movie goes my own personal theory is that
the Puppeteer was playing with the Major in the end trying to stall for time so she wouldn't discover their real identity. The whole I-Am-You thing was more likely a scam.
Note even the Major at the end wasn't quite certain about the truth of who the Puppeteer was.I think that they left it open ended like that in case they decide to do another movie.

One good thing about it was, Sci Fi Channel did put out a press release about the block in May and they did let everyone know that GITS: SAC: SSS movie was going to be the first thing.

It was both smart and risky move on their part. On one hand, people that have been following GITS: SAC series would check the movie out. But on the other hand, people that haven't seen all of GITS:SAC are going to be lost and not understand it.

I think they did this, because they got the rights and not Adult Swim and felt that this would be their claim on the gold mine.

We just have to see if it work or not.

Macross Plus is the only reason why I'm watching it.

I will watch Noein and Tokko just to see if they will show them in their true format.

Well, as much as I appreciate being able to see Noein again, I gotta say....

The fake J-rock 'Ani-Monday' theme I just heard has got to go.
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
May He cause His face to shine upon you.
May He lift up His countenance and grant you peace.

Well I don't care what they call it as long as theres anime to be seen. I personally think they all were (Excluding Macross Plus because Im not really into that stuff but Im sure its a great anime. Sorry just preferences is all. You guys have them too, right?) really good. A little weird, but hey I guess they can only show Sci-Fi animes on the Sci-Fi channels. I can't wait for next week!

Man I wish I had other channels that got anime, but what can you get on cable? Only Sci Fi and CN.

If you have a Digital Cable option, there's a number of additional channels you might have available to you.

ImaginAsian TV, AZN, Encore Action all have Anime blocks. A few lucky people get a little-distributed channel called Anime Network as well. I don't, but I do get the Anime Network On-Demand queue.

Since I've seen Macross, I flipped over to Encore Action to catch 10 Tokyo Warriers after Tokko was over. It's a terrible dub, but a show with potential.

Well, one thing for sure. Macross Plus is not your normal Macross storyline. I have only seen the OVA and would like to see Macross Plus Movie, I have heard that its better.

animedude90 wrote:A little weird, but hey I guess they can only show Sci-Fi animes on the Sci-Fi channels.

Its not really that they can only show Sci Fi animes. Sci Fi Channel has a deal with Manga Entertainment and can only show animes from them.

Manga Entertaiment has alot of licenses deal with a good number of Sci Fi like anime.

But Sci Fi Channel is going to show Street Fighter II V series after Macross Plus is over and that's not really a Sci fi anime.

I would like to state for the record that the little cut-scene dubs that SF threw in during commercial breaks were hilarious.

Ohh yes! They were hilarious. After the first one I was like "is that apart of the show?" but then they kept doing those funny scenes. My favorite was the Tokko one, you know with his sister. But yes though thats a little sick. I mean they are brother and sister for crying out loud!

@ Roy Mustang- Thanks for clearing that up for me!
