The powers of the interweb list (correctly) Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas as the top selling game in the US in the last several Generations... The interweb is made of people... People are stupid... In fact, the gaming public is stupid. The fact that 3 GTA games can make the top 5 most sold games proves that...

EDIT: Sorry, I thought I had posted on the topic already... If I had a GBA, I'd get this... My next portable will be either a PSP or an iPod. If it's the PSP (most likely) I'll just get this with PS1 emulation. That way I get the 2 cinema scenes (I know there are technically 3, but the opera scene just uses scenes from the other 2, so it's not really new.) That way I'll get Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross, too... No plans of DS releases of those, are there?

But, yes, 6 is probably my favorite game... 8 and 10 are right up there, though. 8 is the second most underrated game in the series...

Hmm... I should stay myself, save for some rabid fanboyisms. No one should turn into me, either... God forbid. And I stand by my statment... GTA is about Nihilism. It's never been about story, not even about gameplay. It's about being able to do anything and everything you want to. EVERYTHING you want to. Wanna shoot an old lady? Good, you can. Wanna pick up hookers and drive them off cliffs and steal their money afterwards? Yup... You can do that. Wanna have your pick of any car you want, and get the national guard after you as long as you can escape to your hideout? Sure, why not... What's that? Tommy Versetti is building his way up in the mob, earning respect and making a name for himself? No one cares. What's that? The games have clipping problems that rival the original Tomb Raider? No one cares.

Yes, I'm very off topic here...

FF6 is still a great game. Even if it is very easy. Difficulty isn't everything. If you want difficulty in games, become a PC gamer... Or make difficulty settings, that works too... I don't like games that are too difficult, at least without settings to make it easier my first run... I don't spend enough time playing any more to be able to do it... I'm sure Siren was a great game, but the difficulty from the get-go was too much to let me into the game. That's something PC games can get away with, console games need to be more open.

I wish they would make difficulty settings, Twilight Princess was ridiculously easy, even for a Zelda game. I wish gaming companies would have variable difficulty settings because I like to be challenged, but I don't like being given near-impossible odds.

While we're at it, I wish they'd stop making these games where you have to get rank S in stage rankings to unlock secret stuff. Some of us aren't experts and would still like to unlock everything without cheating. (off-topic)

S rating? Are you referring to Trauma Center? That's my favorite new Soap Opera... Er... Game...

If you're not opposed to emulation, there are hardtype hacks for FF6... Even have new optional enemies, ala the weapons in FF7 and the monster arena in FF10

It's one thing to like or dislike the GTA series, but don't go calling GTA fans stupid. If they like that sort of game, more power too them. They can say that RPG fans are stupid because some battles are turn-based.

I was going to say something about how the "greatest game ever" is apparently relative to a person's view, but I'd have to be ready for a counter-argument on how overall opinion and the actual design of a game must be factored, so I decided to go with the laziest option and not say anything. =0

yeah man i thought u meant there was gonna be a halo golf for xbox 360

Fixed.

(And kudos to the ones that get that.)

It's the spirit of Nihilism I think is stupid. I stand by what I said. It's not the mechanics (though the clipping problems are absurd...) or even the story, but the "everything goes" nature... And that's what most people go for... Honestly, how many GTA fans tell you they like the story or the controls... What do they talk about? "I like to stand on the roof and throw grenades at passerbys," or "I like to drive hookers off cliffs and take their money" or whatever... There are some that enjoy the story, but they are in the minority. So, yes, I do think that GTA fans tend to be a bit stupid... And it gives me little faith in the gaming public when these games are the top sellers.

As far as I'm concerned, they probably wanted to compensate for never bringing it to NA. So, they upped it up a bit to the new Game Boy generation system so they can add in new stuff, take advantage of 2 screens, and add some better graphics in. Being made in Japan first, yeah they get the game too along with us, but well, it's my best guess anyways^^

As for VI, if I find it at a decent price I'll pick it up.

FFIV, FFV, and FFVI are nearly direct ports... FFIII was a complete remake that took advantage of the DS hardware. That's why. There isn't as much incentive to remaking a game like FFVI with 3d graphics, particularly since that one isn't that popular in Japan... V maybe, but that was released long before III, so they didn't have the idea yet.

I agree with him.

RPGs don't stand a chance against games with crappy stories and pointless killing and gore in America.

Don't get me wrong, I love "Gears of War."

It's just games like "GTA" and the game made with RPG maker called "Columbine: The RPG" that almost actually got released that tick me off.

I don't think the PEOPLE are stupid, persay but how easily they are persuaded to buy a game to watch gore fly is stupid.

EDIT: Do you guys realize this is a thread on FF6 for GBA? XD

Crappy stories? Truly these are words spoken by a man who has never played a GTA game...or played one for ten minutes and then stopped.

GTA III was a little short on story, admittedly, because the main character was mute. However, Vice City had an outstanding story, and Liberty City Stories was quite excellent as well.

Though if you're not a fan of Mafia type stories like Godfather or Scarface, I can see how you would find the story to be crappy. Kinda like how I don't like the western genre.
It's just games like "GTA" and the game made with RPG maker called "Columbine: The RPG" that almost actually got released that tick me off.

Why does that make you angry? People have a right to express themselves, as one of the foundations of this country. Why is a Columbine game so distasteful? Because people died?

News flash, people died in World War II, and there's a hundred WWII games, but I don't hear you complaining about the atrocity of WWII games. It was a real war, where real people died, and it wasn't cool, it wasn't awesome, it was a war. Yet we still play WWII FPS games, and just kind of go with it. I wonder, do WWII vets look upon these kinds of games with the same distaste you look at the Columbine game?

If you find the game reprehensible for some other reason than people died, then I suppose you have a valid criticism, but if your only reason is "People died," then I respectfully disagree, as many historical games have been made where in the actual event, people died, and you don't seem to have problems with those (that I know of).

Anyway, I took Bob's statements with a grain of salt, I wasn't mad at him or anything. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and if he doesn't like GTA games, that's fine. He doesn't have to, same as I don't have to like Silent Hill. XD Though I've never really played any of them, so I guess that's a bad example.

I took more offense to him saying people who like GTA games are stupid, but hey, if he thinks that, I have only one course of action. I must work hard and be declared the Smartest Person in the Universe by the President or the Pope or someone. And then, I will say, "I am the Smartest Person in the Universe and I like GTA! IN YOUR FACE, BOBTHEDUCK ON CAA!" But then it'll be like 50 years in the future and I'll probably have forgotten, so I won't really say that.

Well, I sure as heck disagree with your view on Columbine, but that's definately another topic to discuss.

No, those words are coming from someone whose played GTA3 an awful lot, so...yeah, I guess the crappy story thing came from that point of view.

I think Nate brings up a valid question about the Columbine RPG though -- what makes it any different from games glorifying real wars where real people died? I mean, sure, my gut reaction is that it's pretty sick, but what actually makes it different?

And the game was released. It was removed from the Slamdance festival, but it very much exists.

NINE DAYS REMAIN

Anyway, I've been thinking. Couldn't a WWII game be different from a Columbine or GTA game because in WWII games it's Soldier against Soldier. Whereas Columbine is two dudes with guns against a bunch of innocent people?

Not really taking sides by the way. (Though I will say Nate as a valid point).

[offtopic]
I'll take the conversation to PM, but I'll close by saying there's a huge difference between soldier vs. soldier conflict and a horrible situation in which two teenage guys decided to kill defenseless students on the birthday of Hitler. It's a tragic situation in which parents still cannot get over and if a video game was made honoring those two guys for killing students only if they said they were Christians was published, it would make those two guys look cool and the students become the innocent prey and considering what is popular in gaming, become a smash hit.

Just imagine if your child was killed and they made a video game honoring the killer.

That will be all I'm saying in this thread about that, so please continue through PM.
[/offtopic]

Okay, so I'm really excited about this but I already requested a PSP with two games for my birthday, so I guess this one is coming out of my own wallet.

Yeah, what was with those loading times? If anything makes me buy this game (other than having sufficient funds), it'll be because I won't have to wait 5 minutes for the menu to load. XD That's one reason why I wish they'd port Chrono Trigger--the load times in that game are awful. XD

But I never bother to collect the extra stuff (most of the time) when going through RPGs anyways.

And we all know what happens then.

Cutting it awful close.

Violence is violence, the real issue is "Why?" Gaping motivational differences there.
