Well, I voted for Queen just because I like them, but are they metal? Is this in the right forum?

Wheren't a band called NITRO big in the 80's? They had like Michael Angelo Batio as a guitarist.

Greatest metal band of the 80s?? Most of those started and were big in the 70s. And I'm not that familiar with all on the list but Im pretty sure most of those are just rock/hard rock bands that may have done maybe a song or two that could fit in the metal catergory.

Anyway, I picked other. Lol. Where is Iron Maiden?? I know they started in the 70s as well but they were still quite big in the 80s and are still concidered the best metal band ever (I disagree but they are good).

ofcourse u gotta love the hair bands. They made the 80's and then the people like Boy George and Ozzy almost killed metal.

Of the ones on your list, I have to go with Metalica.

But otherwise, I'd say Dio.

Surprised a supposedly Satanic rock band is mentioned on a Christian site. :dizzy: :banned:

Wikipedia wrote:Dickinson's debut with Iron Maiden was 1982's The Number of the Beast, an album that claimed the band their first ever UK number 1 record[20] and additionally became a Top Ten hit in many other countries.[21] For the second time the band went on a world tour, visiting the United States, Canada, Japan and Australia. The tour's US leg was marred (or perhaps promoted) by controversy stemming from an American right-wing political pressure group that claimed Iron Maiden was a Satanic group because of the album's title track, [21] ostensibly concerning a nightmare Steve Harris suffered.[22] Iron Maiden members' attempts to deflect the criticism failed to dampen persistent accusations. A group of Christian activists destroyed the band's records (along with those of Ozzy Osbourne) by burning them in a large fire. However, these accusations of Satanism were largely based on misinterpretation of the song, or fear of the aggressive, energetic nature of the music. Iron Maiden's current drummer, Nicko McBrain, is a Christian, and is happy to play the song, which he sees as a warning against Satanism.[22]

None of these really seem metal to me... more like hard rock. XD
I can't vote on just one!!!
From this list, I love Metallica, Queen, AC-DC, and Guns n' roses.
But there are so many others! XD

sorry. That's a lesson for you out there. Don't believe all you hear. Even Christian groups can say false stuff.

ok Evangeline. The groups ur thinking of aren't metal. They are scream, rap(crap) or some other form of wanna be music group. All the bands that I listed and have seen thus far are indeed metal groups.

rocklobster. just cause some may say a group is evil doesn't mean they are and 2 just cause a group isn't christian doesn't mean they aren't listened to by christians. This thread is here to find out what everyone likes as far as metal bands of the 80s go no to start a fight.

Whoah, man, chill a little. By MODERN terms, the bands listed aren't really considered metal. In the 80's, yes, the bands were considered heavy metal. But the genre has evolved and changed to include newer and broader types of bands. And rocklobster admitted that he was misinformed about Iron Maiden.

ok go watch VH1 or VH1 clasic the only groups they play on metal mania are the true metal groups like what i listed above in the poll. I've never seen any group that is actualy screamo or rap(crap) played on there and if they were metal at least one group would have a video by now.

I'm not even continuing this discussion; we had an issue similar to this in Ark's thread elsewhere on Jam Session, and I'm not going to get into it.

I'm not trying to argue i'm just proving what i said and that is that every group mentioned so far (except for mabe "death" cause i've never heard of them before so I don't know) is indeed a metal band.
