top five metal albums this year

They don't have to be in any particular order.

Mine are:

Killswitch Engage- "As Daylight Dies"
Trivium- "The Crusade"
Flyleaf- "self-titled"
Evanescence- "The Open Door" -they're more metal to me than some other bands that claim to be metal
Bullet For My Valentine- "The Poison"

and my most anticipated for 2007 is Otep- "The Ascension."

You probably are gonna get some heat for the bands you included. My opinion is, Evanescence Flyleaf and BFMV are not metal. Good bands...but not metal. I am a huge KE fan though. Those guys are amazing.

(Rachel....it sounds like you need to listen to more actual metal; the only ones of your top five that are even close to being metal are Trivium and Killswitch Engage.)

Insomnium: Above the Weeping World
Unexpect: In a Flesh Aquarium
Electro Quarterstaff: Gretzky
Psycroptic: Symbols of Failure
Altera Enigma: Alteration

some [very] honorable mentions, any of which I could easily include in my top five depending on my mood:

Anata: The Conductor's Departure
Gorod: Leading Vision
Draconian: The Burning Halo
Wolves in the Throne Room: A Diadem of Twelve Stars
Axamenta: Ever-Arch-I-Tech-Ture
Gory Blister: Skymorphosis
Scythe: Decay
Communic: Waves of Visual Decay
The Faceless: Akeldama
Martyr: Feeding the Abscess
All Shall Perish: The Price of Existence

I can't think of five great metal albums that came out THIS year but I will give notice to the fact that UnderOath improved their style immensely in Define the Great Line which came out summer of this year. However, it can't compare much to their "Dallas Days" (First Three Albums).

The Devil Wears Prada's second album, (which was basically a re-release of the first with bonus tracks) Dear Love, A Beautiful Discord was excellent as well.

I like them. They're kind of fun. They did a cover of the Spongebob Squarepants theme that was really, really funny.
I'm a shoe-in for hater of the year.

There are no more heroes any more they all died in the night that the world fell into darknes; and good men are trampled down into the dirt never to be seen again. This is the story of this world of ours the story of the corupt and those that would try to save it from them but become corupt themselfs from their own selfish greed and want for what they do not have.
