Dude, just set your wireless router channel to 11. The Wii's internet works fine at that channel. uhh... if that's the problem, anyway

Yeah, it's only a trial until the end of March. Still, surfing the net on the Wii is pretty enjoyable for now.

I just hope they, at least, update the flash player to 8 so I can watch youtube videos and stuff.

Wow. Now that is convenient, especially for people who don't have a way to watch that stuff on their TV. I, however, will stick with my PC for that; as it can output to televisions anyways. :)

There's a lot of reasons why it might not be working. If you have Mac filtering or turbo mode turned on, for example. Go to the forums at Nintendo.com and look around. Chances are you need to change something in your router settings, that's what I had to do.

Oh and yes, the internet channel is fun, although typing isn't exactly practical.

No you guys do not understand. My very specific router (Netgear CG814WG) in addition to my ISP has a firewall that is not accessible on the consumers end. (And Comcast is not liable to shut it off) And believe me. Go to the Nintendo Power forums. EVERYBODY with my exact same router in the United States has the same problem.

A simple google search of "netgear CG814WG wii" will give you an infinite list of problems.

And YES MAC filtering is off, YES I attempted port forwarding and YES I attempted to set a DMZ. I'm not computer illiterate and I know how to network my own home. I logged into my router numerous times in the past.

I am neither, and if it's like typing on the Mii channel, it's irritating. I'm guessing you use the Wiimote pointer to do it, since you said parkinsons (because of shaking) Well, the cursor shakes whether you do or not. At times, you don't get a proper signal and the thing jumps around like a cricket, and then you have to be really careful to get the right letter Even using a d pad or analog stick would be much much easier.

The problems with the pointer jumping around come from two things: physical distance from the wii, and the sensitivity that the remote is set to in the wii config menu.

The "Sensitivity" setting has nothing to do with how fast the cursor moves. It changes how sensitive the IR camera in the remote is. I'm feeling lazy today, so instead of typing this explanation I will just give a link.

Um...

Ok...

Sorry?

EDIT: No, on second thought, I don't apologize for that. It is very hard to try typing with the wiimote pointer. It's bad enough just putting names in on Miis, but having to do it consistently to do web surfing would be absurd. So, yes, I find that the mark of a fanboy to say it is easy. Even using a d pad is annoying, but not as annoying as the pointer. At least with the D pad, your arm won't get tired from holding it in that general position for a long time. I mean, I suppose you can rest your hand just right to get the wiimote to work, and swing your wrist around, but... Then you have OTHER problems. No, I know the thing has USB connections, so I'd definately want mouse and keyboard, or at least keyboard for my web usage... Wiimote makes an ok mouse replacement, not a keyboard replacement...

The real issue is I wasn't being malicious or anything when I said it. I was commenting on the issue of typing with the thing, and having someone say it's easy... I'm sorry, I don't see it. It would be slow, with more opportunity for typos than with a standard keyboard, and, unless they made a backspace on, say, the trigger, which would have made sense, you'll have to move off the "natural" portion of the onscreen keyboard to the backspace button... At best, it's like typing with a pencil. At least with a d pad, you always lock onto the letters, but typing with a d pad is attrocious too...

Yeah, on this note I have to agree with you Bob. Typing out sentences with the wiimote seems about as annoying as typing out messages for texting over mobile phones. It may be easy for those who use letters as representing words, but for those of us who write in full sentences I think it would be rather time consuming.

I think using the wiimote to type is relatively easy (annoying though) It's not because I'm some "Nintendo Fanboy" which I don't consider myself one. Maybe I'm just good in PC FPSs?

I think that it's easy to type with the wiimote. It's just that it is also annoying and time-consuming. QWERTY Keyboard FTW.

However, I do find it faster and less time-consuming than using a D-pad. At first I did not, but with time it has become better. I think it's like learning to use a mouse with your opposite hand. It's awkward and difficult at first, but a great and welcomed skill once you have had enough practice.

Regardless of how easy or difficult it is to use, console makers just need to allow full QWERTY keyboard support. I hate using any browser on a device that doesn't use a full keyboard. Without a keyboard, the browser becomes a novelty that doesn't get much (if any) use from me.

Okay, I finally got myself a Nintendo USB Wi-fi connected to use for Wii connection, but I'm not quite able to get it to work (do note this is my first real experience setting up something like this, so I'm unsure where to look for things like "IP addresses," etc., if those are needed):

I've gone through the Wireless setup and managed to get a connection with the adapter. When I perform the connection test, however, I get this:

"Error Code: 51040
Unable to find an access point. Please confirm the SSID and try again. Visit support.nintndo.com for assistance."

I've checked the site and I'm still not sure what to do. I'm also not certain as to how I can check the SSID.

EDIT: I'm not connected to a router, either. There was trouble with it in the past for some reason, so I connected directlyto the modem. It's worked fine for my connection, but will this cause issues with the Wii connection?

EDIT AGAIN:

Nevermind. By some miracle of God, I changed the console nickname and it worked. =o

Terribly sorry. I should've seen the error of my ways.

To me, time consuming = difficult. That's pretty much what I was referring to (that and getting the thing to stay on the screen, it is sorta tiring after a while) Using anything other than a keyboard to type with only happens as a necessity. I didn't know that there WASN'T keyboard support, but I guess that's the only reason someone would defend not using the keyboard so heavily. Maybe a firmware upgrade will fix that...
