Update: English voice cast announced...

http://www.animeondvd.com/news/pr.php?pr_view=831

I think it's odd seeing Aruruu still has her name, but Eruruu's become "Eluluu" :/ I get that it would be hard to say in english without using the Japanese pronounciation, but why change one and not the other? Make no sense v_v

I also notice that the ever-popular Vic Mignoga (or however it's spelled^^) is playing Benawai... actually it's the only name I recognize on there... Not too fmailiar with english VAs^^

That is strange. Also, they spelled Tuskuru's name wrong--It's spelled Tsukuru on their site, but yesy always had it as "Tuskuru".

And Vic Mignogna as Benawi, huh? Well, he's a good voice actor, so I won't say anything yet (and his real voice is deeper than the voice he uses for Edward in FMA), but I didn't really imagine Benawi's English voice sounding like that. XD We'll see, though. :thumb:

I looked into it a bit, and the guy doing Oboro's voice was Hiroki in The Place Promised In Our Early Days. That's good; he has a nice voice. :D Though, I'm not sure how well he'll fit the part. But oh well, I liked him in The Place Promised. :D

Ahahaa! I *finally* finished this series! I was...a little confused about some things...a lot of things, actually. XD;
Ok...so...all of the people with ears, wings, etc. were experiments...right? What exactly IS Hakuoro? He...got shot, and his blood seeped into that "missing link" fossil...then he's in this lab, because he's been frozen...then he's released from the lab with Mikoto, who I am led to believe is Eruruu. But are Hakuoro and Eruruu reincarnations of their past selves, or...? I dunno, I got really confused there. XD And the whole thing with Dii...he's Hakuoro's "other half"? O_o
Well, confusions aside, I actually quite enjoyed the ending. I'll elaborate more when I have more time, but I enjoyed it! :D

From Wiki... the most helpful info around, without having to play the bad game to get it :/
In the present age, an archaeological expedition unearths a mysterious fossil, a fossil of a disfigured beast. Unknown to the archaeologist, the fossil is the embodiment of a forgotten god, known as Witsuarunemitea. A superior scientist stumbles in, and after some confrontation, the mysterious stranger explains that humanity isn't ready for this Missing Link, the gap in evolution between men and apes. To prevent him from talking, he shoots the archaeologist. As the archaeologist slowly dies, his blood touches the fossil, and the forgotten god awakens.

Witsuarunemitea, a shattered and forgotten deity, sees opportunity in the dying archaeologist. He offers the archaeologist life, in exchange for becoming his vessel, so that Witsuarunemitea can finally find the sleep he so desires. Time passes, and eventually he becomes frozen in ice.

With Witsuarunemitea still bound in sleep as his mask, the archaeologist re-awakens many years into the future. He finds himself in an underground research facility, where he is being studied as an ancient human specimen. The archaeologist learns from the researchers that the world has become an uninhabitable wasteland, and the last of mankind lives there, in the underground shelter.

Mizushima, a researcher, is assigned to the care and study of the archaeologist, who is now referred to as the Iceman. Upon discovering that the 'Iceman' is able to breathe the post-apocalyptic air, the researchers look to harness his unique genome to re-populate the surface of the earth. Of the thousands of creations, only a select few prove to be viable, including experiments 3510 and 63. Experiment number 3510, a beautiful woman, is given the name Mikoto and experiment number 63, a girl, is given the name Mutsumi. Mutsumi, realizing she has come from the Iceman's DNA, addresses him as "father".

The genome project encounters some problems, however, and the researchers in charge decide to re-freeze the Iceman for later study. Mizushima, aware of the human side of the Iceman, urges him to run, and gives him the facility's master key, a plain-colored ring recognized by the facility's doors.

The Iceman runs from the facility, taking Mikoto with him, whom he has fallen in love with. After a few years have passed, Mikoto gives birth to a daughter. The researchers, however, don environmental suits in order to pursue the Iceman and recapture both him and Mikoto. Mikoto is dissected for further research, but while Iceman is being prepared to be frozen, his rage awakens Witsuarunemitea.

Outraged by the treatment of Mikoto, a new side of Witsuarunemitea begins to form. Filled with rage, Witsuarunemitea destroys most of the facility. Appalled by what the humans would do to obtain immortality, Witsuarunemitea grants their plea, transforming them into immortal gelatinous beings. Eventually, the great god accrues so much rage as to split himself into two halves: one which seeks destruction, and another, which seeks only to be destroyed.

Suddenly, Mutsumi appears, and empowered by Witsuarunemitea's divine blood, she puts both halves of Witsuarunemitea to sleep. Meanwhile, the few successful genetic experiments from the research facility begin to repopulate the Earth's surface, as the original humanity slowly dies out and is forgotten. The research facility is sealed away forever, and the people are told it is Witsuarunemitea's holy land.

Years later, a shift in the world awakens the two halves of Witsuarunemitea, who begin to combat each other; the destructive side wanting to help the populace of the world reach new height through wars, and its opposite through peaceful cooperation. The emperor of Kunnekamun (whose people; the Shakukopuro, are being massacred) seeks out the destructive side, who grants him a power called the Avu-Kamuu, allowing them to exist in the world of war and hegemony.

Eventually, the fighting of the two halves causes a great earthquake. Arurū, a young girl of Kenashikourupe, is in the process of climbing a tree to recover a beehive when the earthquake strikes, and falls, becoming greatly injured. Erurū, Arurū's sister, prays to Witsuarunemitea to heal Aruruu, and promises, in exchange, her body and soul. Witsuarunemitea obliges.

Both halves of Witsuarunemitea are heavily injured in the battle, and both halves are put to sleep. The destructive half is found by Dii, a scholar of Onkamiyamukai, who fuses with the demigod. The half that wishes to be destroyed retains his body, and is found in the woods by Erurū.

The events of Utawarerumono then take place.

Ahhh, ok, that makes SO much more sense now! XD Anyways, now that my homework's done, I'll go ahead and elaborate on my thoughts on the ending.
It was VERY sad. XD As confused as I was when I watched it, I still nearly cried while Hakuoro was saying his goodbyes to everyone. And the whole scene with Hakuoro and Eruruu, while it made my fangirlish side quite satisfied, was also a real tear-jerker. For a while, I was thinking that Hakuoro would show up in his human form at the very end, and I was disappointed when he didn't. XD Still, I thought it ended well. Although we never did get to see Yuzuha open her eyes! What's with that? XD

I find it very interesting that the whole thing takes place so far into the future. A largely technological society becoming a very primitive society was an unexpected plot twist, so I thought that was good. I do wish that they had explained things a bit better; I'll have to print out the wiki article for my friend to read when she's finished it; she's almost done with the series. XD
Thanks for posting that article though, it explains so much! XD

Yeah... that was a great part^^ For some reason in the past weekish, I've already had 2 Uta dreams! One was me in the dream "dreaming up" a story on Hakuoro and that the masks were cursed and turned people into demons or something :/ When I "woke up" in the dream, I thought it was SUCH a cool story I "dreamt" about, yet can hardly remember :/

The other dream I had a couple nights ago, and it was like I was watchign it like a movie, yet trying to make it up on my own. Basically it was on Hakuoro tryign to propose to Eruruu and I was all like "yay^^" with my girlyishness, but Aruruu kept getting in the way. For some reason I kept "making up" Hakuoro's voice wrong and trying to picture them as real people while I "created" this dream, but it was hard to picture the ears as real...

Man dreams are odd^^

XD I haven't had any Utaware dreams just yet, but I did have a Trigun dream not long ago (which was REALLY weird, since it took place in my old neighborhood....:eyebrow: ). The villain was something that I had made up though, and he was really cool! XD I wanted to draw a picture of him, but I never got around to it, and now I've pretty much forgotten what he looked like anyways. XD Oh, well.

I think they're tryign to make it more actiony or something like that :/ Although for me what attracted to me too it wasn't some mystical mask, but that the characters were cute and had kitty ears (at least I always refer to the ears as "kitty" ones^^)

Yeah, really. XD Not to mention the cool people with wings! I do think that the title would look better in some sort of calligraphy-ish thing, or something. The metal-like text...really just...doesn't fit, at all. XD

Oh, man. That cover is an insult to the artistry of anime. Whose idea was that? They must be attempting to "toughen up" the series since they assume the demographic that is into anime is young men who like to watch stuff get blown up.

Wow, I'm pretty impressed. Going from the few clips that I watched while I was there, it seems they're doing a pretty good job. The one thing I don't like is that Eruruu is being called "Eluluu", but at the moment, it's a small mark on an otherwise good production. I'll probably buy the DVD when it's released. :D

Well, I'm thinking just the DVDs, so I can skip the ones that have the questionable content. XD 'Course, I'd have to remember which episodes did, but...XD

The only voice I truly hated was Hakuoro's. If they wanted to hire a failed Batman, they should have used Adam West.

Dude, I have been trying to get a hold of this series for quite a while now. I must admit, what first got my interest in this series was a .GIF I found which was basically a looping clip of the scene where Hakurou is wondering just what that thing dangling off Eruruu's butt is, and strokes it, then cuts to her face. I LOVE THAT SCENE! Eruruu's reaction is priceless!

Well, I have never heard of this series. But it seems popular here.

Normally I'm prone to searching for myself on what a particular series is, but I'm curious to hear here. What makes this anime so wonderful?

Depends. I like it because it's got a great storyline and lots of catgirls. Other people like it for the comedy, which is also great. There's also a good deal of action, the typical misguided, selfish ruler who needs to be overthrown, and several other interesting qualities.

Hmmm, well. As I say, never judge a book by it's cover. *checks on list of anime/manga to see/read*
