Who is your favorite Biblical figure other than Jesus?

Postby rocklobster » Sat Sep 09, 2006 5:18 am

I was wondering who your favorite Biblical characters are? I singled out Jesus because I figured everyone would choose him. My favorite would have to be Peter. To me, he seems the most human of all the apostles. He screws up so much, yet he still has enough spiritual strength to persevere. Even after he denies Christ three times, he still believes in Jesus's message. I feel that all of us would probably make the same mistakes he did.

most people would mess up more than he did. I like Elija. He kept going when he thought there was no one else and hes one of the few biblical peolpe not to have major problems with the person whos supposed to take over from him(son, servant, apprentice).

Fav Bible character? Hmmm... I always like Deborah and Jael from the book of Judges. Also, Daniel and the other three whose names I will probably misspell... Shadrack...Mischak...Abednego? Mmm? Close??? Maybe?? XD They had guts. And absolutely solid faith.

In the NT, hmmm other than Jesus I like Peter too. ^-^

Close. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego... I find it amusing that "Abednego" is the one people commonly get wrong, and you got that one perfectly. :)

For myself:

Simon of Cyrene, the guy that helped Jesus carry the cross... the idea that this guy HELPED JESUS blows my mind. Seriously, would there have been a crucifixion without Simon?

My other favorite is Thomas. I wrote an essay once that challenged his title of "Doubting." He had more faith than any of the others, I say!

I liked him in Mel Gibson's movie.

That is pretty awesome when ya think about it.

(DOH!! So close... why did people have just stinkin' complicated names back then? Couldn't they just call them something simple? Like Manny, Mo, and Curly?)

Another favorite of mine is the Virgin Mary. I actually backed off a bit from her as a kid, because I thought she was kinda lofty and unattainable. But now, I realize that she suffered too when Jesus died. I mean, she had to just sit there helpless while her son was killed and tortured. And yet, she still had faith. That's real guts.

I think I like David first, because the Bible says that he was a man after God's heart. He messed up so many times, but was quick to repent and have his heart broken before God.

Solomon comes to mind second, because he asked for wisdom instead of riches or power, even though he messed up in the end.

Of course there's all the people from Hebrews 11. So many to choose from.

I'd say Pharaoh Magron. he was the Pharaoh that is in the story of Joseph. the Egyptian form of this name appears in the throne names of both Tuthmosis IV and Amenhotep III. I like him for the same reason that I like Aktenaten. you see, I think that Magron was open minded to God and supported the Hebrews. Amenhotep III's throne names contain information of Magron, so I would assume that Magron would be close to him and would pass on this belief. and Amenhoteps second son was Akhenaten. Who was a religious revolutionary, Amenhotep IV (Akhenaten) introduced Atenism in the first year of his reign, raising the previously obscure god Aten (sometimes spelt Aton) to the position of supreme deity. The early stage of Atenism appears to be a kind of henotheism familiar in Egyptian religion, but the later form suggests a proto-monotheism. I have a strong feeling that Atem MAY have POSSIBLY been the egyptian view on God. I could be wrong. I'm just a student so I don't expect this to turn into anything theological. but I am very interested by the idea of a Phaoah that believed in God. even though this happened centuries before Jesus so he obviously wouldn't be Christian but still...

EDIT: I meant to say "wouldn't" instead of would. XD

As of now, Elisha, Elijah's successor. He was righteous, but there was just something about the way he dealt with things that made me identify with him most. He wasn't a nice guy; he was a bit sarcastic at times which just made me smile.

Judas. ¿After all, did he not carry the burden of doing what had to be done? (I’m not saying he was a NICE GUY, only a DEVOTED one…)
I am not your friend. In fact, I’m probably someone you hate…
But I’m the guy backing you up. So DUCK, and let me do my job.

Mine Is Job.

A blue, black shade of love.

Sent from above.

My hands are tied to worlds
alone,
And this I know.
Your breath's like wine,
And just like clouds, my skin crawls.
It's so divine, the sky it glows with fields of light.
Did you know that I love you?
Come and lay with me.
I love you.
And all this day, I will love you.
You make me feel alive,
and I'll love you
Until the end of time.

Most definitely Job.

"The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away;
Blessed be the name of the Lord."
(Job 1:21b)

My favorite verse. No matter what happens, we should continue to bless God's name. Hard to live up to, but an awesome goal nonetheless.
