Worst Christmas song ever!

Postby rocklobster » Fri Dec 08, 2006 8:20 am

What Christmas songs do you hate the most and why?
I'll nominate "Simply Having a Wonderful Christmas Time" by Paul McCartney and Wings. Practically uninspired and not nearly as good as his stuff he did with the Beatles.
And of course, "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas". Do I even need to explain?

After hearing it so many times in the store (and so many arrangements of it yet!) I've come to absolutely loathe "Santa Claus is Coming to Town". >_< (Although I don't mind the Beach Boys' version of it, oddly enough. ) So whenever I hear it I find myself thinking "Santa Claus is so going down."

I heard a song at work (not that I haven't heard it before though) and it's the first time I've heard it and how it really sounded WRONG! It's called "Santa Baby" and the singer's tone of voice that she sings it in, sounds like she wants to seduce him or something. *shudders*

...That's got to be better than what I thought the song was about: her carrying "Santa's Baby".

You guys have mentioned some real winners. Or should I say losers? I freaking HATE that Simply Having A Wonderful Christmas Time song, and I hate Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town, and I really hate Santa Baby.

Also, there's this other song I don't like but I don't know the name of it. The chorus says something like "They're singing Deck the Halls, but it's not like Christmas at all, I remember when you were here, and all the fun we had last year". I don't know why, but that song irritates the crap out of me.

Explain... Because I LOVE that song... It's just funny.

Though it does bring up an indirectly related bad memory...

I think I know the one you're talking about...Is it "Baby, Please Come Home"? I haven't heard the original version of that song, but Anberlin and Ben Gibbard have both done great covers of it. XD

Anyways, I'll have to agree with you all on "Santa Claus is Coming To Town". Gyaaaah, I really hate that song. XD

First of all, the singer has the WRONG idea about Christmas. Second, it's not even a reasonable request.

CIA spook? He is most certainly from the KGB, my friend. From the far north, big beard, wears red, gives wonderful gifts to everyone whether they've earned them or not...we have ourselves a communist agitator here, people, and it's time to bring him down...

Err, ignore my babbling and those men in black suits and mirror shades for a moment. I have to say there are a number of worst Christmas songs, depending on your metric of "worst". "Let's Have a Patrick Swayze Christmas" is bad in a good way, as is "The Night Santa Went Crazy", both so wrong, yet funny at the same time. I really dislike ultrasentimental consumer Christmas music, especially the remixed versions. Though I can't remember names (mainly because I never care enough to find out the names), the poppy modern takes on old carols drive me up the wall, and modern sentimental junk about gifts and Santa is even worse.

Yeah - her name is Eartha Kitt. Scary indeed.

And "Grandma Got run over by a Reindeer" is like the redeck Christmas song from hades. Who wants to hear about their grandmother dying because of an idiot beast of burden. Not me. No sir. No ma'am.

I heard one the other day at work. Somthing about, "I want an alien for Christmas" It was at that point I realised we have lost most the good classic ones. And are replacing them with crap.

I dislike:

Santa Baby

This remixed version of Hark The Herald Angel that sounds freaky and evil

"Granpa got worked over by a mobster". Sung to the tune of "Grandma got run over by a reindeer." Awful because it is uninspired and derivative.

"Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree". Probably because I was stuck listening to a minature Christmas tree that sang it EVERY TIME somebody walked by, and there were a LOT of people walking by.

That's the whole point. It is an unreasonable request. It's just supposed to be funny. No one honestly believes this girl is going to get a Hippo, it's obviously absurd, the girl is obviously a brat and will be thoroughly disappointed... Get it? That's the way the song is supposed to be. It's funny.

EDIT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gayla_Peevey That's the full (I think, anyhow, though Wikipedia isn't always trustworthy...
The description of the game "Resistance: Fall of man" once read "PS3 ***** *****! hahah 360 owzors!! lololo" I bet there was someone out there who bought a 360 based on that "article", too.)
I'd much rather take funny than a lot of the songs out there right now. I just can't believe how serious (that's not quite the word I'm looking for) this thread is...

Oh man, "Santa Baby" is deffinately up there on the worst list, and "I Want A Hippopotamus for Christmas" is just behind it. "Do They Know It's Christmas" and "Last Christmas" (by Wham!) are their own kind of icky as well.

Wham!'s version of "Last Christmas" is awful; I agree. Jimmy Eat World's version, however, is fantastic, and it's one of my favorite songs to listen to during the holiday seasons. :D

"I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" - when in the world did an old, bearded big guy get all attractive to all these women. It's like a bad "Your Mama" joke.

Your mom kisses Santa Claus!

No, YOUR mom kisses Santa Claus!

Wow, I actually think that song has a catchy tune.

"Santa Baby" is horrible to listen to mainly because of the vocals.
