I think I have a sty >_<

Postby K. Ayato » Wed Nov 15, 2006 8:32 am

Hey. I could use some prayers. Yesterday while at work my right eye was slightly bothering me. Kept having to remove sand from the inner corner. You know, like when you rub the sleep out of your eyes? That's what I found myself having to do. I also noted the fact that the same corner I was rubbing was also a bit swollen, as compared to my left eye. Then later on, while doing my second visit, the same eye kept tearing up for no reason. I thought it was 'cause of the cold weather, but I was indoors and it wasn't that chilly.

Which brings me to today. I woke up this morning, and my right eye appeared more swollen than yesterday, and also almost completely closed. I grabbed my phone and called my mom, thinking she'd already taken off for work. Thankfully, she was still in the house, and I told her there was "something funky going on with my right eye." She took a look, and determined it might be a sty. She also directed me to wash my hands, then wash my eyes out gently and apply eye drops. And if it persists into tomorrow, to check with the doctor.

This really stinks. Right now I'm tempted to rub the sleep out of my right eye, but I can't. I know my boss will understand why I might not go to work tomorrow, but still. A sty? I've had them while I was a kid. Last one was when I was 9 years old. Not sure how this one came about.

Anyway, I'd appreciate your prayers. Still going to work, but keeping my hands clean and away from my eyes. I'll update tomorrow.

No, it doesn't hurt at all. But it still stinks to have it.

I'll pray for you and remember that this is nothing but a small trail...

I think these are basically skin infections of the eyelid. So putting dirty fingers near your eye is a good way to get one started. One it starts, it will eventually (in my experience) break open (like a blister), which is when you really don't want to touch it and get it infected worse.

Annoying, to be sure. Praying for you.

Update. The swelling went down significantly, but the sensation that something's still bothering my eye is still there. I went my whole day applying eye drops and wearing my sunglasses (aka my "Terminator glasses") not only 'cause it was so bright, but also to discourage me from touching my eyes.

So far, so good. We'll see how it turns out in the morning. Right now my eye feels "tired", as in it wants to close, while the unaffected eye is still fully open. If it seals shut like how I found it today, I'm definitely penciling in an appointment to the doctor.

Also, I looked up what a stye is on wikipedia.org, and what's going on doesn't look like one at the moment. It's in the inner corner of the right eye, not the eyelid itself. Only time will tell what it actually is.

Wow, praying for you.

Actually, I think I used to get that when I was alot younger... I'm not sure if it's what you would call a stye, though, because it was just a bump in the eyelid, pretty much.

Checked in the mirror this morning. Eye looks AND feels better. Will continue using eye drops and wearing the glasses.

If it's in the inner corner and not the lid itself, there is a conjunctival membrane there that can get irritated and swell up, causing your eye to get sticky and sore. I get this sometimes, since I have allergies, and some of them affect my eyes more than sinuses. There's some new type eye drops that contain naphazoline that work pretty good on it. Over the counter stuff.
