Cousin Going Back to Iraq, Baby Soon

Postby Doubleshadow » Thu Nov 02, 2006 2:34 pm

Hello everyone.

My cousin goes back to Iraq soon for another 18 month tour. His entire unit is already there with the excpetion of him, because his wife gives birth anyday now to their third child. The other two are not quite two and four. His wife copes horribly with his going to Iraq, she tried to kill herself the first time even though that meant leaving her two boys! We're trying to get her back to our part of the country so she can have help raising the kids. She is 23, I think. My cousin is regular army and has been shot and his unit suffered KIA's last time he was there. Please pray for him and his family. He is so upset he is going to miss the early childhood of one of his kids again.

Not a good situation with his wife, to be sure. She needs some help.
Praying.

Alright, the baby was born Thursday. A seven pound boy named Jack. The mother is doing good so far, but it looks like she might stay in Texas rather than come back here since that way she'll be near the military hospital. The baby will need it shots and all that. We don't know when my cousin leaves yet.

Light-hearted side note: My mother is not impressed that her younger sister now has four grandkids. XD

Hey, one thing I can tell and empathize with. My dad was in the Gulf-War when my baby brother was born... oddly enough was the third child as well.
The only thing I can tell you is to communicate often with your cousins wife. Talk to her and keep her company even if it is only common chit-chat.
One tip with you cousins wife with the new kid. If she has a simi dirty shirt still from her husbund, wrap the child in it. Though young, the child will recognize him when he gets back. Maybe over thankgiving... go see her, with family etc, I know everyone has plans, but sometimes the Lord has other plans. Oh yeah, make sure she knows, that the Lord will always keep him safe, he has been through a lot, and he still is kicking. Hang in there.

oh my...it makes me think, MUST he go back to the army? T_T ( you know it's not very good if a child is missing a parent, especially in early childhood. )
I'll pray for God's will. And that He'll take care of them.

Lifted one for them. Please keep us posted.
Theme Scripture: Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. (Galatians 5:1)

And a verse for all us single folks: Do we have no right to take along a believing wife, as do also the other apostles, the brothers of the Lord, and Cephas? (1 Corinthians 9:5)

They let him stay over Thanksgiving, but I still don't know when he leaves. I got to see them all when they came out to my grandparents. There oldest is a funny little kid. He wanted to help me when I was shooting the bow, he'd grab another arrow and say, "I can help! See, here's another!" He'd also wanted to shoot the bebe gun. He'd say, "I wanna 'fire in the hole'!" The middle son has the opposite personality, he just wanted to be held and already has the puppy dog eyes down!
My cousin was an armorer, but he finished interrogator school, so hopefully he'll not be on the front lines much this time.

Alright, my cousin is schedule to be deployed next week. That's all I know at this point. He said he send his address when he gets it; from the way he phrased it, I'd say the contact from home means a lot to him.

News from the front, the bad kind.

After the hope he would be in the green zone, they sent my cousin back out into the field (he was in Karballah a lot last time).

Worse, the new baby, Jack, is very sick. He has RSV virus. My Mom was very upset. Her sister (the grandma) told us the baby was so weak he couldn't breathe, then would gasp for breath so hard it would suck his tongue back and block his airway. My aunt was having to keep her finger in the baby's mouth to hold his tongue so he could breathe. They went to the hospital, but discharged him after a day and I don't know why. My aunt and uncle and my cousins sisters who are in high school were taking care of the other boys so my cousins wife can watch the baby. I asked my uncle how the baby was, but he just said 'not good', so I didn't ask more.

My cousin isn't even supposed to be in Iraq again (the army screwed up, he was suppossed to be in language school), and is there for a year and half. Thank you for praying for them.
