Hello CAA,
I’m not even sure how to explain this situation in a way that would make complete and total sense, but someone very dear to me is in desperate need of prayer. She is a dear friend, and having grown up close to hear, I witnessed that she was one of the strongest Catholics I had ever known. Somehow, within a year, that changed.
I returned from school to find her a terrible mess. She would barely talk to me, always on edge. She hadn’t gone to church in ages, or even spoken to any of our old friends from the church. Soon enough I began to poke around in her business, and eventually found out that she had been going through major depression issues, but that was not even closest to the worst.
Eventually, I just confronted her about some things, and she just lost it. The poor girl fell to pieces and explained everything to me: she’d had an abortion, tons of premarital sex, used many drugs and done many other illegal things. I was in shock, because I knew that she was not the kind of person that would do that! Then, she explained it. It all ‘began’ at a party just after graduation. She felt safe in going, because it was her close friends that had invited her—one even from our church. She doesn’t recall much from that night; accept for waking up half-nude in someone’s house along with several other intoxicated people from her school.
Apparently, from there, it all spiraled out of control. They threatened her with disgusting things if she didn’t continue to ‘service’ them. Eventually she got pregnant. She made the choice to end that pregnancy, because she was so lost and confused that she didn’t know what to do. She regrets all of it, she even regrets being in the situation that created that child.
In the end it appears that her fall from faith was because of a loss of faith in god, due to the actions against her in this world. She has also mentioned to me that she doesn’t believe she deserves eternal life for a host of reasons, but I know different.
As far as the problems with the disgusting people who took advantage of her, we are able to take care of that on this end easily. We’re also able to lend her emotional support, but we cannot alone return her to who she once was. It will be hard, but through Christ, anything is possible.
Please pray for her, that she will find her way back to Christ, and that she will come from these horrible events a stronger woman and Christian.
