Valkyrie Profile?

Postby Tenshi no Ai » Thu Oct 26, 2006 7:49 pm

So, I was just looking at Square's site and stuff and noticed this game... (well, both of them that is since apparently it has a sequel too). Never heard of it before but the characters and graphics and stuff look neat^^ According to the trailer it looked to be a sidescroller...

Anyone played it or know if it's good or anything?

I've heard of it, and I heard that it was really good. I've also heard that it's pretty rare (though I did find it in my EB Games once, as a used title). I never did get it, but the art looks pretty. :D

The game is quite good from what my friends say. Unfortunately, as others have said, it is quite rare. The only way to get it easily would be for PSP. :(

About the game: The game is an action RPG. From what I heard, the battle engine is one of the best.

ASDFGRWERQ! I've been looking for this game at gameshops for like, 3 years now. and you just happen to find it randomly? Life is mean that way. :(

The first Valkyrie Profile was made by tri-Ace and released by Enix around the year 1999/2000. It became something of a cult hit, but became quite rare regardless.

Last year, tri-Ace/Square-Enix announced both a PSP port of the first Valkyrie Profile and a prequal game, entitled Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria. Both games were released in the US recently.

I intend to pick up Silmeria within a few months or so. I unfortunately haven't played through the first one as it's rare/expensive on Playstation and I don't have a PSP. The games are indeed action RPGs, as is tri-Ace's style.

here is some info, i got it off wikipedia

Valkyrie Profile is a RPG developed by tri-Ace and published by Enix (now Square Enix). It was released in 1999 in Japan, and later released in 2000 in the United States. Both were released on the PlayStation console. Today, the game is rather rare in the US, and prices can be seen to go into the 100-150 dollars range for a used copy, while some copies still shrinkwraped go for 250-300 dollars on online auction sites such as eBay. However, due to republishing in Japan and the United States, copies are now easily being found and are dropping in price.(hmm, somebody lied  )

The game is based on Norse mythology. Players assume the role of a Valkyrie who must find the souls of people who die tragic deaths, shape them into powerful warriors post-mortem, and send them to Valhalla for the final apocalyptic battle between the Æsir and Vanir, Ragnarok. Each warrior has a 'Hero Value', a number representing their usefulness in Valhalla, and certain characters cannot be sent to fight in Ragnarok.

Valkyrie Profile features a wide variety of playable characters. More than twenty are attainable in total, each with a unique set of attacks and a unique special move, save for the mages, who can learn and forget any spells up to a maximium of ten but are set apart by their stats and their initial spell lineup. The difficulty level selected at the beginning of the game determines the availability of some of these characters.

I have both of them hahahahahahahahaahahah ;D, I beet the first one several years ago and I am playing the 2nd one right now. The 1st valkrie profile had butiful animated cutscenes and awsome story the remake on psp will be cg animated cuscenes. Now the kikker is the story line is only awsome if you get the A ending proplem is its so complicated and there is so many special things that if a person explores the game could ruin it if people do what there suppose to do could ruin your chances at getting the awsome A ending that you have to have a guide to show you how to do it also you have to play it on normal difficulty or higher to get this ending.

But it was so worth it.

I downloaded it off the internet. Great game, Ive clocked in a little over 20 hours and still havent beaten it. I havent played it in a few months because of college.

Good graphics, anime art style is a treat. Gameplay is addicting. Music is just awesome, Motoi Sakuraba crafts a memorable score. Its a little short on the story and characters, but doesnt fail to impress even after being dated.

Its definately worth looking into as it is a wonderful work of art. And theres my two cents.
