It's just the type of man he is. People hate him because they think he acts like he's Jesus.

He refutes them by saying he's nowhere close to being like Jesus, though it is a goal of his.

I don't know if you've heard any of Switchfoot's stuff. Their second album is sorta weird, but any of there other stuff is good.
