Much like the threads before it, this is a thread I created for the discussion of new anime that will be airing on TV in Japan in the Spring 2013 season. Anime typically gets released and runs for a number of seasons. The year is divided up into four seasons: January to March is winter, April to June is spring, July to September is summer, and October to December is fall. Each season is approximately 13 weeks.

Here, we can talk about what shows look interesting, what we plan to watch, and generally get giddy and excited for things that we've been anticipating for a while.

And I totally read the first line in Kotori's voice. Shiktanai ne mang~

Hmm for some reason I thought Silver Spoon, the suffering of Hachiken, was airing in Spring but apparently no announcement yet. Not sure I want to give Manglobe another chance. Yamato for sure. Urobuchi Gen anime means I'll watch but Psycho Pass has not quite met my expectations. OreImo 2 is supposedly going to cover up to the end of the LNs so might give it a shot. Railgun yeS. I still don't know how Aku no Hana got an anime. I'll also be looking forward to Gundam Unicorn and Nanoha A's BDs in late March.

Yamato and Unicorn are definite viewings. Not feeling anything else on this list, though.

I will be watching for sure:

The remaining Episodes of Girls Und Panzer (Imagine my dismay to finish the first 9 episodes and really enjoy the series [It's actually a pretty good series... it's cute, awesome, full of spirit and solid.]....only to find out it's currently on hiatus . If the last couple of episodes are solid, though it'll be worth the wait.)

(I'm currently busy with the OVAs of Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2199 and I might check out the TV Series)

And that's pretty much it for the TV Series.
For OVAs:

Unicorn

I'll probably check out the remake of space battleship Yamaoto, but other than that, this doesn't look like a very good season.

First off, Arata Kanagatari is a REALLY COOL AND Y'ALL DON'T EVEN KNOW. The synopsis here makes it sound kinda dumb. And I suppose the 'same names' thing is. But this ranks very high on my list of favorite fantasy manga because of the world-building and character development - it is top-notch. That the story is also pretty good is icing on the cake.

Definitely making its way to the top of my own list for shows that I'm going to watch.

Karneval? Yeah, that too. That is also quite, quite good and I'll be seeing if the anime is as good as the manga.

Shingeki ni Kyoujin is an oft-overlooked manga, but is very intense. Yeah, the word 'violent' should be in there somewhere (it is definitely that), but I really enjoy it and will be seeing what they've done with it.

And I might watch Hataraku Maou-sama! for the lulz.

O_O Stuff...looks interesting. YAY!

I'm stoked for Karneval...mostly only because I fell in love with the character designs a while back, and really liked the synopsis. (Just haven't gotten around to reading it) So. Super, super excited. :))

Also planning to poke my nose into Shingeki ni Kyoujin, Aku no Hana, Arata Kanagatari (due to Atria's shining recommendation), Devil Survivor 2 and...Red Data Girl.

More than likely I'll not end up sticking with many, if any. But hey. That's the list of things that caught my eye with potential and shiny promotions (I know, don't take promos at face value, but hey).

Shingeki no Kyojin: Yes. Yes yes yes. I've been hoping for this since I started the manga almost two years ago. Araki Tetsuro directing is a bonus.

Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge: It's been a while since I read it, but I think this will be a good one.

Arata Kanagatari: Looks good, I'll give it a try.

Other than those three... Not much for me this season.

Definitely:
- Shingeki no Kyojin
- Arata Kanagatari

Probably:
- RDG: Red Data Girl
- Karneval

Maybe:
- Aku no Hana
- Suisei no Gargantia
- Valvrave the Liberator

...Somewhat surprised at the lack of enthusiasm for Urobuchi's new anime in this thread so far, LOL. :P I'm quickly becoming a fan of his work, and had already put Gargantia on my plan-to-watch list a while ago. I'm very much looking forward to this one.

As for the rest of the spring shows, I'll probably at least give Red Data Girl a shot, and then wait to hear how good the Karneval adaptation is (I'm planning on reading the manga soon) + keep tabs on a few of the others that look interesting to see how they go before deciding on them.

Red Data Girl - Kind of interesting looking but I know better than to open my heart up to PA Works, so we'll see how it goes.
Oregairu - The joke's gotten old Brains Base. No really. You can stop now. I'm serious.
Photo Kano - What happened to you Madhouse?
Devil Survivor 2 - Eh P4 was supposed to be pretty good so I'll check this out. Never heard of Bridge though.
Shingeki no Kyojin - Like my favorite thing, everyone who hasn't seen the trailer yet should do that now.
Valrave - This looks awesome and I'm excited to get a new robot show.
Gargantia - Also looks awesome and the setting designs are really Xam'd-y, been stoked about this for a while.
Maou-sama - This sounds hilarious but same deal with White Fox as PA Works, except their shows look less pretty.
Henneko - I'd normally pass on this but I've found Sakurasou pretty enjoyable so I'll give this a shot at least.
Majestic Prince - I'll give this a try but hsssssss Dogakobo
Railgun - I'm so glad I remembered the Toradora guy directed Honey and Clover II so I can put off my temptation to watch Railgun.
Crime Edge - lololololol oh Japan I'll probably watch an episode because really.
Arata Kangatari - Eh, I know everyone hates Yuu Watase but I'll probably try this because I can't really pass up fantasy realm.
Karneval - This also looks awesome. Manglobe's been redeeming themselves with THE UNLIMITED this season so I'm pretty stoked about this.
Katanagatari - Ah, I'm pulling for Crunchyroll to pick this up since they've been getting NIS's stuff lately, been really excited because Nisio Isin is great.

I've heard a decent amount of buzz for this from the right people, but I'd guess the lack of enthusiasm mostly revolves around a combination of people here not watching F/Z, the people who did being generally disappointed with Psycho-Pass, and him not having much actual name recognition here. People really loved Madoka but I don't think his other things are big enough round these parts for people to really start recognizing the Urobutcher as a force.

It's that time again, where everything looks okay, but only time will tell to see which series survive and which ones flop!
Though, let's look at the line up.

Date a Live - Probably not because the synopsis is idon'tevenknow
RDG: Red Data Girl - This looks pretty okay.
Space Battleship Yamato 2199 - I never saw the original. :<
Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteiru - LOOK AT THAT BEAUTIFUL CONCEPT ART. *A* It may not be that shiny in the series, but hey, I will give Brains Base a chance, as I usually do. Knowing my luck, it will all end up being stupid, though.
Photo Kano - wat. I can't get the PV to load for me, but was this also a game? Or am I thinking about something else....
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2 - I liked the P4 anime only because I was playing the game, so since I haven't played this SMT game, I'm not sure if I'd like this...the preview looks okay, though.
Yuyushiki - I don't know much about this studio, but it looks cute.
Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai - No.
Shingeki no Kyojin - The preview I saw for this earlier was pretty cool; looks like it's going to be a dark story, though. I'll give it a watch, because that animation. *o*
Valvrave the Liberator - I'm not into mecha anime, but look at those character designs. O:
Hayate the Combat Butler (Season 4) - I'll get around to watching all of these seasons...someday.
Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet - A+ for website design. The concept art also looks lovely. Can't get the PV to work for me, but I'll give it a watch for its art's sake.
Hataraku Maou-sama! - This could be really awesome or really dumb.
Hyakka Ryouran: Samurai Bride: Naah.
Uta no Prince-sama: Maji Love 2000% - Utapriiiiii! Now with double the dokidoki love.  (。♥‿♥。)
Namiuchigiwa no Muromi-san - Okay, sure, this can get a first episode watch, at least. It looks cute.
The "Hentai" Prince and the Stony Cat - I what. Even after the PV, I don't even know.
Ginga Kikoutai: Majestic Prince - Totally not my genre, but the character design really interests me and the PVs were great. I think I will try to watch this.
Yondemasuyo, Azazel-san. 2 - Still naaah.
A Certain Scientific Railgun S - People tell me the stuff before this is okay, but I haven't seen it.
Mushibugyo - I can find nothing about this, but its premise seems interesting??
Dansei Bunri no Crime Edge - Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a winner. This website design is the best/trippiest. Just for that, I'm going to give this anime a try, even though it looks super weird. Because holy wow, that website.
Arata Kanagatari - This doesn't really look like my cup of tea, but because Atria recommended it, I will give it a shot.
K∀RNEVAL - I really want to love this, but I'm worried it's going to end up being another K...
Aku no Hana - Gets second place for having a cool website. Beyond that, though, I don't think I will watch this.
Katanagatari - An excuse to actually finish this anime, I guess.
Haiyore! Nyaruko-san W - I don't know, I was going to watch the first season, then I never did. I might look into it, though.

There's nothing that jumps out at me as omgmustseeee!, but hopefully this will be a good and not boring anime season. =D

Okay, so I finally read all 52 chapters that are out so far of Karneval, and whoa-- depending on how it's adapted, the anime could be fantastic! :jump:

So now I really do want to watch it, however the adaptations that I've seen lately have been about 50-50 in terms of quality (about half of them being excellent and the other half not so much), so I'm still a bit cautious. The thing I'd probably be most concerned about at the moment (aside from general faithfulness to the source, as always :P ) is the series' length, and at what point in the story the anime will cut off. Because I haven't found a statement on the number of episodes this will have yet, but IMO 13 is not going to cut it-- it's really going to have to be 2-cour, and that's with it covering at least 2 chapters of material per episode (plus a little extra, since the current mini-arc in the manga isn't quite done yet, and that's the best place I can think of to stop... well, I mean, unless they want to do a semi-cliffhanger a little earlier, but...). Anyway, at this point, I've now decided that I'm going to watch it regardless; but I really want it to be done well, so I had to say something, LOL.

So yeah, quite enjoying the manga right now, and (cautiously) excited for the anime. :)

It seems Shinkai's new film will have a BD/DVD release less than a month after theatrical release, with English subtitles even. I'm starting to doubt it'll live up to my expectations though, and Hanakana voicing main still irks me.

Going on my watch list/Gonna watch these:
Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteiru - Looks like something I'd enjoy a lot, so I'm most definitely checking it out.

Space Battleship Yamato 2199 - I never saw the original, so guess I'll give this version a try? :)

Ginga Kikoutai: Majestic Prince - Reminds me of Gundam SEED (most likely because it's the same studio and character designer. duh.) Could end up being good, so I'll give it a go.

Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet - It's Production I.G~! Hard to get a read on this one, could end up loving it, or hating it, hard to tell. (But, it's Production I.G! ♥o♥) Still going to watch it.

Maybe, might watch:
Shingeki no Kyojin - this looks incredible, only I have a feeling that it'll just end up frightening me/grossing me out in the end. We'll see.

Valvrave the Liberator - Mecha/space drama's are my weakness, but who knows. Still a maybe.

Arata Kanagatari - This has potential, looks really cool actually. Just gonna hang back and see what kind of spiritual content it ends up having first.

K∀RNEVAL - Ooo, shiny and weirdness at the same time! The action stuff looks cool too. (Just worried about it having any kind of shounen-ai undertones...)

Funimation got Karneval, and will start showing it on Monday. Guess I'll wait for their stream for that one. :)

EDIT: I did watch the first ep. of Red Data Girl, however, and it's certainly keeping my interest. It's very nice to look at :) , for one thing; and for another, I was already intrigued by its somewhat mysterious premise, and the whole SPOILER: Highlight text to read: 'video chat' power  (plus inadvertent destruction of electronics  ) shown in the episode was quite fascinating as well. SPOILER: Highlight text to read: And I'm looking forward to finding out what's up with the whole "Himegami"-and-servant thing, too. So, yes, I'll definitely follow this. :thumb:

DOUBLE EDIT: Whoa, wait a minute-- I thought RDG had started airing today, but actually there are three episodes out already? Uh, when did that happen? (Whoops!) *also watches ep.'s 2 and 3* ... And okay, now I'm even more interested. :thumb: SPOILER: Highlight text to read: Man, it actually scared me a little when she was getting that reaction on the plane-- I seriously thought her powers were going to bring it down. And I'm really liking the little bit of creepiness and tension that's beginning to wind through it now, too. I hope the rest of this series turns out as good as it's looking right now.

Not sure what to think of DS2 but I'll give it one more episode, I guess. I've been sick all day and I thought I'd clicked on Majestic Prince so I was very confused until the the OP flashed the title.

Majestic Prince on the other hand has fast paced squad-based mecha combat with lots of banter, yes please.

Debating about if I should check out Maou-sama and RDG.
