Anime figures/statues/plushies/etc.

Sup bros.

So I noticed that there aren't many threads on here about a certain type of anime merchandise, mainly figures, models, statues, plushies, etc.

Do any of you guys buy any of these products? If so, from what show?

I own a few Eva figures as well as a few plushies.

As a general rule, it's best not to get these goods from Chinese sellers on ebay. Many of their goods tend to be bootlegs.

I unfortunately don't have any, but if I could have a model of Labor 2/Alphonse I could die happy.

I've got some gunpla, a ZZ Gundam and a Shining Gundam. I've also got an unbuilt RX-178 lying around. Other than that, I like collecting Nendoroids. I've got a Miku, a Luka, and a Black Rock Shooter. I'm pretty sure I'll be preordering a Homuhomu and I'm holding out hope that they'll release regular Nendoroids (as in not Petit) for Bakemonogatari so I can get a Senjougahara.

And a Mameshiba plush.

Both purchased on my one convention attendance.

I have some giant microbe plushies on the way: a Black Death and a sperm lol

I have a Haruhi Suzumiya poster, but most of my stuff are Transformers related such as figures, T-shirts, and posters. Most anime stuff I own are in the form of DVDs and T-shirts.

I do not currently have any figures, but having some DBZ models would be pretty cool. I don't really have a place to put them, but If I had/could make the room, I might buy some.

I'm currently waiting on the release of this amazing figma.

As for other merchandise, I have one wallscroll of Belldandy and one poster of the Oh my Goddess! trio in wedding gowns, but neither of them are hung anywhere. They're simply sitting in my closet.

I also have numerous Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and video game related toys, but those are all in storage as well.
I try to keep my room as clean as possible, so there's just the one spot for... Decorations.

I don't have any. The only thing I really want is a Beelzenef puppet or plushie, because I thought Beelzenef was just the cutest little curse doll ever.

I guess there's nothing stopping me from buying one, but what would I do with it if I had it? I mean, it's not like there's anyone that I need to curse . . .

I gave 3 t-shirts (Naruto, Renji from Bleach, and Kyo from Fruits Basket), a Naruto headband, a Naruto notebook, Bleach pencils, a Kakashi doll, an Urahara doll, and if Hello Kitty counts (since it's from Japan), Hello Kitty pajamas, a HK sticker book, and an HK coloring book.

If this is just a general merch thread(which I thought it wasn't), I have a pretty rad Summer Wars poster than I love, and the artbox to Darker than Black.

I would totally pick up a few PVCs if they weren't so expensive. And even then, I was pretty tempted to pick up the Good Smile 1/8 Hitagi PVC that I saw at a con. But yeah, way out of my price range. I'd say Figmas are just outside the comfortable spending zone for me, but I also don't really like the joints. I think Nendos are the right mix of looks good and affordable for me, but the downside is that I don't think every character can be turned into a good Nendo.

I'd love to pick up a few more HG Gundam models, but I don't think I'd ever get around to building any of them.

I have a Kenshin plushie back home and a few posters of various anime. But the only poster I have hanging up is one of Saya and Hagi from Blood+.

Speaking of which I REALLY want a Hagi figurine or Plushie but alas, they don't really make them XD.

Yeah PVCs are ludicrously expensive. I really want a Good Smile 1/7Triumphant Saber PVC, if only it wasn't 120 USD.

Here's a review of the PVC. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVTAC2BkNJE

Figmas vary in price a bit. I've been wanting to get my hands on a Saber alter for quite some time.

Most of the Nendoroids I've seen have been slightly more expensive than the average figma.

If you want, keep an eye on her here as she goes up for sale sometimes.

I pre-ordered her when she first came out, only to find her on sale a little while after release for 1,900 yen.

Yup in my experience, nendoroids have been more expensive than figmas, not including shipping. Of course, that's if you don't include all the limited edition figmas that came with special editions of video games.

I got her for 1,800 yen, then ended up paying a whole lot more thanks to shipping and handling.

But still, not too bad :P

Oh, I guess I don't know what I'm talking about. But I guess that's because I haven't really looked at figmas all that much because those joints really bug me.

Revoltechs can be pretty annoying. Mainly because they rely almost entirely on ball joints and they rarely come with stands. :bang:

The stands they do come with tend to suck anyways.

Still, they're great for their price range if you want mecha but don't want to shell out for a Robot Damashii.

In 2004, when I lived in Korea, I had a doll maker create 12 pairs of Reki and Rakka dolls (from Haibane Renmei); many of these I mailed out to friends. One pair I gave to Fred from Megatokyo (you can see them here).

Otherwise, I don't own figurines. I do, however, have stored away the cover for a Nene Anegasaki body pillow...

I don't have anime/manga figures, plushies, etc. right now. I just have manga volumes, and that's it. I wouldn't mind collecting items like these, I just need more money to start. >_< XD

'Course I'm sure my old Pokemon stuff from when I was like... 7 is around the house somewhere, if that counts. I'd have to dig for it, though.

Anime Figures

PostPosted: Tue Jul 05, 2011 11:43 am
by XR400rider
Hey Everybody
I just wanted to ask a question about anime figures. What do you think about them? Do you collect them, do you think they are sinful? I am interested in collecting them as a hobby, but so many of them seem to be in sexy clothing, or suggestive poses. And some are even pornograhic in nature. I know better as a Christian than to purchase the offensive graphic ones. But I would like to purchase an anime character I like in 1/6 pvc, but she is in a bikini, and the bikini looks like any you would see at a public pool, and also the figure is not showing any private parts. But the figure is in a suggestive pose with her hand on her hip. This may seem like a silly post to some of you, but being a Christian I just wanted to know what all of you think. Do you collect anime figures, and when do think they become to close to being sinful.:?:

We have a thread on this from just a few days ago, so this thread is probably going to be locked.

http://www.christiananime.net/showthread.php?t=59328

But since it's not... A hand on a hip isn't necessarily suggestive. I'd have to see a picture of it before I made a call. When do they become sinful? Eh. It depends. My views of what is/is not suggestive might be slightly different from yours, and that will be slightly different from someone else's. That's something that you need to make a individual judgement call about.

Exactly. In my opinion, any figure is fine so long as they aren't meant to be pornographic. If it's something somebody would normally view as a means to... entertain themselves in alone time with, I probably wouldn't buy it.

I have way to many factors to list if I were to buy a character in a bikini. Are her breasts larger than her head? Is she touching any naughty parts? Are there naughty parts exposed? Is she a loli? Then no, I probably wouldn't buy it.

In the end, it only really comes down to whether or not the buyer views it as a means to appreciate a good character from a good show.

If somebody else were to see the figure out on display and complain about it or something, don't necessarily decide you were wrong to buy it.
You see, what if I decided to buy a bunch of nude statues, like The Thinker or The Venus de Milo? Suddenly, more people would accept it because it's common to accept those as art. Stripping away all artistic value and history, something like The Thinker is simply a nude man sitting down. Why would I want to display that?

Now don't get me wrong, if I did have a little mini-statue of The Thinker or something, I'd totally put it somewhere.

So in the end, all I really want to say is that so long as you like what you're buying and you're pretty sure it's not sinful, then go ahead.

On another note, I really, really hate exclusives.

What is this I don't even.

I have heard Snoop to be a fan of certain animu series, but it makes absolutely no sense for him to be getting his own nendo. It's like if Tom Hanks got his own hug pillow.

I hate gangsta rap enough already.

Well, I did exaggerate a bit. The collab isn't specific, so we don't know if it's actually a nendo. I mean, it could be a figma or a petit nendo set or something (lololol).
