"The Nish", the producer of the Space Battleship Yamato (known as Star Blazers in the U.S.) TV series and films passes away in a boating accident yesterday. Nishizaki was essentially the sole person responsible for getting the franchise to North America, as co-creator Leji Matsumoto was against the rebranding from Yamato to Star Blazers. Though he was a bit of a nutter The Nish is still one of the foremost people responsible for anime being what it is today. in Japan as well as the United States. The impact that both Yamato and Star Blazers had in their respective shores in terms of breaking through barriers and kicking down doors was immense.

Rest in Peace, sir.

First Kon now this. I heard this earlier today.

RIP Mr. Nishizaki.:( My dad watched Star Blazers when it was on TV.
Who knows what my dads reaction would have been to my anime viewing when I was younger. If that show had not been on american TV back then.
Thank you Mr. Nishizaki.
