CAA: Christian Anime Alliance

I've really been enjoying Gintama ever since I started watching it. It is such a hilarious series. I was wondering if anyone else here watched it. (I'm currently on ep 144)

Well it's surprisingly highly rated on MAL.

Hmmm, why not I think I'll give it a try.

Does it start slow? Or should I know within a few episodes whether it's for me?

It doesn't have much of a story, actually. It's about Gin, his friend Shinpachi and an alien girl named Kagura (humanoid alien actually)and the odd jobs they take. There are arcs throughout, but there's really no unifying plot. As for the pacing, the arc don't take all that long to resolve. Maybe 5 eps at the most.

Hmmm I watched the first two and wasn't terribly impressed... but I'll keep going for now.

Psst, the manga is better.

Gintama is not really a series that has a main "plot" but it's more a slice of life type series where the main characters go about their lives doing jobs, learning lessons, and creating havoc in a Japan that has been invaded by aliens.
Apparently the mangaka has promised he'll introduce a real plot soon that starts to unify things together (in the manga at least), but who knows. XD

Regardless, the anime series is very entertaining. I watch it a bit, but mostly read it. Though, word of caution, the jokes (which there are a lot of) contained within the series are considered body humor and some sexual innuendos. Therefore, despite the high rating that everyone does give it, if you cannot tolerate jokes themed that way, you will probably not enjoy the series very much.

Also, another word of advice, don't say the title of Gin Tama in front of a Japanese person. Just don't.

Kagura is the best.

It's so refreshing to see a young heroine in an anime series that simply isn't moe at all.

She's the first female character to puke in a Shounen Jump series!

I like Kagura and I also like Shinpachi's sister. Oh and Sadaharu is so cute!
