What are some of your favorite openings and endings for anime? Consider not only the song, but the animation as well.

My favorite opening, I would consider most anything from The Slayers, but I consider this one to be the best.

Slayers NEXT Opening

The 3rd season, TRY, also has a good opening.

Slayers TRY Opening

As for endings, Outlaw Star has an interesting set of ending songs and animation.

Hiro no Tsuki

Seihou Bukyou

Also, Yu Yu Hakusho has a few good endings:

Sayonara Bye Bye (Eng Dub)

Daydream Generation (Jap dub)

I sometimes like watching Ops on their own for the feeling they set.
My favorite OPs are
Witch Hunter Robin
Darker Than Black
I love the louder sound to this one.
Ergo Proxy
This is a recent discovery, and I think it's pretty amazingly done.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd Gig (Sorry it's Dailymotion, I couldn't find it on YouTube.)
I like the opening to the first Stand Alone Complex, but it's just not as good as this one.

Definitely...that is a great song and a terrific OP. And Roy made me remember about Angelic Layer, too!

Here's another one I enjoy:

FMA (first series) - Ready Steady Go! (while not my favorite song, it fits really well with the animation)

FMA (first series) - Rewrite (mainly just for the chorus part)

FMA: Brotherhood - Again (dude, I can still remember how excited this one always made me!)

FMA: Brotherhood - Uso (really unique and fun to watch)

FMA: Brotherhood - Chemistry (has some cool fighting stuff in it)

Haibane Renmei - Free Bird (absolutely beautiful, and a perfect representation of the show)

Trigun - H.T. (gets you all pumped for the episode, plus it just sounds cool)

Wolf's Rain - Stray (it ends up sounding so...lupine!)

Lol, can you tell what my favorite anime is? :dizzy:

I started watching Heroic Age about 5 weeks ago and I'm really enjoying it! The opening just screams epic with that choir singing.

IMO, the songs in Outlaw Star were much joy able then the show.

Monster opening was great, but I can't find a clip of the whole thing on the net.

For me, I love anything in Japanese and immediately attempt to memorize it. Choosing was hard, but based off of the ones I have memorized, am attempting like crazy to memorize, and listen to all the time, my favorites would have to be...

Openings
Air TV: Tori No Uta
Clannad After Story: Toki Wo Kizamu
Clannad: Megumeru
D.N.Angel: White Night-True Light

Endings
Spiral Suiri No Kizuna (Bonds of Reasoning): Cocktail
Vampire Knight: Still Doll (even though it's creepy!!)
Kanon: Kaze no Tadori Tsuku Basho
Air TV: Farewell Song

Hmm...I have quite a few favorite openings:

Pilot Candidate - (Yes, I know I ripped it a new one with regards to it's dub, but I still like the orchestral music and the opening animation, and because the show ends so abruptly, it's actually nice to see that the protagonist gets his hearts desire...even if the outfit kinda sucks.) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FktnFQ7CSZc

Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad - (Beck has Engrish and it's not afraid to use it...and that's what I love about the opening sequence. "Hit in the USA" has found a home in my truck's CD player from now on--right next to Greg Ayres "All the Same", Otis Redding "I Can't Get No Satisfaction" and Vic Mignogna's "Far From Home" [don't give me that look; you know you liked it too]. I also love the fact that we see our protagonists sing the song in the opening sequence and that, if you listen to the song one way, it sounds like the group is saying "I was made to hit an American". Rock on Beck.) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYy5nEdkRBg

Planetes - (The reason I like this one so much is because, aside from the fact that it's historically correct in the progression of the space program, it also introduces all the main characters just in case you forgot their names! I find that cool as I have the memory of a goldfish. Also, if you notice, the creators make small changes as the series progresses which is noticeable on the DVD's as they give you all the openers to compare.) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FktnFQ7CSZc

Genshiken - (I don't know if it's the opening whistle, or the fact that the song fits oh-so perfectly with the Genshiken group's outlook on life, but "My Place Daioh" will always have a soft spot in my heart.) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24BPqvEN ... re=related

Mushishi - (It's not as sharply animated as "Pilot Candidate", it's not quite as stirring as "Hit in the USA", and it's not as...moe...as "Motteke! Sailor Fuku", but something about the opening sequence of Mushishi, accompanied by "The Sore Feet Song" just fits with this slow-paced, "green" series.) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQqlCatywJI

Spiral - ("Who are the blade children?" heck if I know. But what I do know is that the clean white backgrounds, cool geometric shapes, and puzzle pieces abound really make this opener a cool one. Now, if only I could understand the series that comes after it...) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xk8GaZ1n ... re=related

Neon Genesis Evangelion - (It is safe to say it's the one opening theme that every single anime fan knows the first couple lines to. Admit it, you do. Even if you say you don't, you do.) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A62011nyXNI&feature=fvst

Aria: The Origination - (I am an all around fanboy of the "Aria" series, and all the opening and closing titles rock my socks, but it's something about the last season opening song "Spiral" that really gives me a warm, relaxed feeling. I especially love it when it's played over the opening sequence on the 2nd to last episode.) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QnkQKpMZ ... re=related

You're wrong there. I am being completely truthful when I say I'd never ever heard that song until I clicked on your link. So ha! :P But it's interesting, because I could have sworn I saw a design in there that's on the Gate in FMA: Brotherhood.... :eyebrow:

My favorite openings (no particular order) are probably "Mezase Pokemon Master" (Pocket Monsters), "Eternal Flower" (Ai Yori Aoshi), "Spurt" (Pocket Monsters: Advance Generation) and "Best Wishes" (Pocket Monsters: Best Wishes).

Since endings are so much more plentiful and less prominent than openings, it's hard to think of them of the top of my head as easily, but I'll try. If movie endings count, "Together in the Wind" (Pocket Monsters movie 1) and "Small One" (Pocket Monsters movie 6) would take the cake. If we're only talking TV, some biggies would be: "151" (Pocket Monsters), "Tomorrow For Sure" (Pocket Monsters: Diamond and Pearl), "Because the Sky Is There" (Pocket Monsters: Advance Generation), and "Fish" (One Piece).
