gb2school anime 2010 (FALL)

Much like the threads before it, this is a thread I created for the discussion of new anime that will be airing on TV in Japan in the Fall 2010 season. Anime typically gets released and runs for a number of seasons. The year is divided up into four seasons: January to March is winter, April to June is spring, July to September is summer, and October to December is fall. Each season is approximately 13 weeks.

Here, we can talk about what shows look interesting, what we plan to watch, and generally get giddy and excited for things that we've been anticipating for a while. There's a handy chart of all the shows that are coming up, with a short blurb about the premise of the show and what studio will be handling it. As we get closer to the season, more information shows up, like the first airing date. Other information like staff and cast obviously won't fit, but it's not too hard to use the Google to find out.

Here's the chart. Pretty awesome, right? Welp, that's unfortunate, because it's fake and the guy who does the charts hasn't done one yet, even though it's about that time of month. For the real list of shows, I refer to fansubwiki and moetron and this chart by someone who's having their first go at it.

BEGIN LIST

Iron Man is the anime version of Iron Man, by Madhouse.
Star Driver: Kagayaki no Takuto is BONES' next big thing. It's original, it's mecha, and it's probably got a lot of money behind it, since it's going into the 5pm Sunday slot that used to house Gundam, Geass, and FMA.
Otome Youkai Zakuro is about soldiers living with fox-girls in Meiji Japan. Uh, yeah.
Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru is the next SHAFT show, about a girl working at a maid cafe who wants to become a detective.
Kuragehime is Brains Base's next show, featuring fujoshi and traps.
The World God Only Knows is about a guy who is known as the god of h-games on the internets. Hilarity ensues when a devil approaches him, based on his reputation, to make real girls fall in love with him to get spirits that are hiding in their hearts out of them or something.
Togainu no Chi is about some gang stuff in a dark, futuristic Tokyo and is an adaptation of the BL game by Nitro+.
MM! is about a guy who finds out he is into masochism.
Hyakka Ryoran Samurai Girls is about a bunch of girls who are the student council at a military academy, what.
Yosuga no Sora is based on a visual novel; main story is about twincest.
Tantei Opera Milky Holmes; I have no idea.
Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai is about a guy who finds out his sister is secretly the bad kind of otaku.
Sora no Otoshimono is getting a second season.
Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt is the newest Gainax show, and despite the weird title, it looks like it's going to be a pretty neat, over-the-top action show. It has the staff of Gurren Lagann behind it and the aesthetic seems Powerpuff Girls-esque.
To-LOVE-Ru is also getting a second season; don't ask me why.
Fortune Arterial is a name that sounds familiar, but I can't remember why.
Tegami Bachi is getting a second season, so I bet there'll be a bunch of you pleased with that.
Hakouki is getting a second season; meh.
A Certain Magical Index is getting a second infodump.
Bakuman is about two high schoolers trying to become the most popular serialized manga-ka in Weekly Shounen Jump. Offers an extensive look into the process behind manga, from conception to serialization. Really good.
Arakawa Under the Bridge, also with a second season.
Psychic Detective Yakumo looks like it's going to be a Bee Train anime that's not about spies.
Shinryaku! Ika Musume is about a squid girl who wants to take revenge on humanity for polluting the ocean.
Super Robot Wars is getting another anime!

I sure am wishing that fantasy preview chart was real right about now.

You forgot to mention the Queens' Blade OVA...how dare you.

Give me some Star Driver and some Super Robot Wars, please. These will be appointment viewing if they are available streaming (surely someone will at least pick up Star Driver...holding my breath for Super Robot Wars). Depending on my available time (and how good the shows are) I may check out Bakuman, Iron Man and the new Gainax one (I can't bring myself to type or say that title). I will have a lot of catching up to do from summer, though, seeing as I have pretty much put most shows that began in July on hold (SenBas2 being the exception) in favor of watching older stuff.
Tantei Opera Milky Holmes]Obviously, this is a surreal sort of show about the Milkyway candy bar , personified as a gangster (with a heart of gold, Holmes), who desires to leave gang life to fulfill his dream of singing opera.

That fantasy chart made me happy.

I want to see a Vinland Saga animu so badly.

This season looks okay. Iron Man looks exciting at least. And lol @ Sora no Otoshimono getting another season. More flying pantesu.

Aaaahahahaha. O man I am so watching that.

Well at least this upcoming season looks like it has some better choices. I'll have to look more into the other ones or see how they do when they come out before I decide to watch them though.

I hope the show about the girl taking revenge on everyone for polluting the ocean is funny. Other than that, the new mecha series sounds like it'll be pretty cool. And Bakuman sounds interesting.

Actually, this sounds pretty hilarious.

Bakuman is really good; it's my favourite WSJ manga that's running.

I've heard that The World God Only Knows is actually pretty hilarious, but I haven't had the chance to take a look at the manga yet.

Personally, I've got Star Driver and Bakuman on my list for sure, and I've got Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt, Arakawa UB 2, TWGOK, and Soredemo Machi to watch out for too. I'll probably end up checking out at least an episode or two of a few other shows, out of obligation or curiosity.

The fact that that chart is fake makes me sad. How can they tease us with Baccano like that? 8(

*is quite pleased*
Bakuman is about two high schoolers trying to become the most popular serialized manga-ka in Weekly Shounen Jump. Offers an extensive look into the process behind manga, from conception to serialization. Really good.

I was hooked on this from the first chapter of the manga. I hope they do a good job with the anime. :D
Psychic Detective Yakumo looks like it's going to be a Bee Train anime that's not about spies.

Read the manga of this. It was okay, but brilliant, but okay. I might look into a few episodes.
Shinryaku! Ika Musume is about a squid girl who wants to take revenge on humanity for polluting the ocean.

This sounds like the weirdest anime. Just for that, I may watch it.

Overall, looks like a pretty nice lineup so far.

Dat fantasy chart. Persona 4 ;_;

Also yeehaw, new mecha show from Bones. Sign me the heck up. There's the Super Robot Wars thing too. Bakuman sounds interesting as well. Other than that...eh.

I'll probably want to watch the new Bones anime, Bakuman, and the Squidgirl one! \o.o/
I looked at the chart for Hakuoki...that looks really pretty, why the "meh?"
I guess prettiness does not always mean awesome...?

Also, Certain Magical Index season two. Japan is now confirmed for troll tier.

I don't know you guys, Star Driver looks sorta cardboard cut-and-paste for those same people who brought us X'amd; but Bones is some pretty solid backing, so it could be watchable. And if I feel like inserting foot in mouth there's always Bakuman.

Oh, you cruel, cruel man.

Anyway.

Bakuman, Ironman, Panty Stocking Garterbelt for me. Definitely watching Jellyfish Princess because it's noitaminA. Probably going to stick around for Arakawa 2 and maybe pick up Ika Musume.

I'll check out Bakuman and Star Driver. Tegami Bachi 2 makes also makes me quite pleased, and reminds me to finish up the first season. Anything else I think depends on how busy I am with soccer and school and stuff.

Hakuoki has indifferent animation, a cast of characters so big that none of them are fleshed out (and indeed remain at a very one-dimentional level), and a heroine that is incredibly helpless and pointless and yet is put in charge of rather important things (like being the healer for those in battle) and becomes an unofficial mascot for the entire group. I would be happy to see the series die.

But I'm definitely watching Jellyfish Princess
The World God Only Knows
Star Driver
Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru
Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt
Psychic Detective Yakumo

Tegami Bachi and Bakuman I'll continue to follow as manga, since I wasn't impressed with the graphics in the anime of TB, and Bakuman is still ongoing, so I'd have to read it to find out the end, anyway.

I hope Mirai Nikki's "pilot" OVA isn't a let down. I really want to see the best girlfriend ever, Yuno, in action.

Just a heads up that trailers for shows are going to be popping up this weekend because of C78.

Well, I'm very much interested in Bakuman and Tegami Bachi 2. The others...I'll have to wait and see.

Tantei Opera Milky Holmes has a really intriguing name, though! Pretty sure "tantei" is detective in Japanese, which makes sense since Holmes is also in there. Combining 3 of my favorite things (anime, opera and mysteries) really intrigues me. But the "Milky" part makes me a little hesitant...lol.

Also, there have been several h-games that have gotten anime adaptations that are squeaky clean, so maybe the BL game adaptation (Togainu no Chi) won't be so bad? *shrugs*

To be honest, based on that fact and the fact that it's an Aniplex show, I'm kind of expecting it to be fairly innocuous.

And speaking of trailers, here they are, collected in one or two convenient posts:
Star Driver, STEINS;GATE, squid girl, and other stuff
Everything else

This season at first looked fairly lame in cmparison to the fantasy chart, buuuttttt.....different things are beginning to look interesting. So I shall have to take a stab at a broad range and see. and YAY TRAILERS! I shall have to watch them when I get home. (in airport now and the wi-fi kind of sucks to stream...)

Definitely Bakuman on my list- and the panty-watsit it called sounds intruiging... LOL Squid girl may try, as well as the Ironman anime LOL. tho seeing Robert Downey Jr as a bishie would be wicked awesome. xD

Real fight between K-on Yui cosplayer and Railgun Uiharu cosplayer which ended up in a 4 vs 5 fight. Everybody thought it was some kind of act and didn’t stop them until they realised Yui cosplayer was nose bleeding and her costume was torn. Another cosplayer explained it was a sort of faction war.

WHAT!

It looks like I am going to be watching mostly older stuff this season, but these three look solid enough to try out. Oh, and squid girl too. No matter how good Panty and Stocking is, I will not be able to associate myself with that name.

I'll definitely be taking a look at Bakuman (I've been looking forward to it for a while) and Koisento (I have no idea what it is about, but it looks fun). Other than that, I think I'll keep plugging away at watching older stuff.

there are a ton I am going to try....especially because after enjoying Legend of Legendary Heroes the most this season? I am glad I did not judge by title and blurp...sooo...let's see my lineup.

Bakuman
The World God Only Knows -- MAL is giving it a PG-13, so...I will take a shot and hope it is, as Wyntre phrased it, "squeaky clean" or at least just average anime humor.
Panty and Stocking -- looks amusing..
Psychic Detective Yakumo -- sounds intriguing, we shall see...
Squid Girl -- just for the name. I mean really.
Star Driver -- because it's BONES, though it sounds dull to me otherwise. I'll be surprised if I keep up with it.
Tegami Bachi -- YAY!
Togainu no Chi -- sounds awesome aside from the BL, so we'll see?

I'll probably end up picking and choosing and not end up trying everything. xD But that is the plan...for now...

Ugh had a look at the Index season 2 trailer... looks like they decided to ruin it the same way they ruined Railgun.

Well, that certainly helps. :)

Tantei Opera Milky Holmes looks like it will live up to my reservations, rather than my hopes - though I kinda figured with Milky in the title it'd either be excessively cute or perverted. At least it looks the former and not the latter...but it looks too cute for even my tastes. lol. I'll probably go with Psychic Detective Yakumo instead.

I'm actually really surprised Hakuouki is getting a sequel. I thought everyone kinda wrote it off as boring eye candy, but whatever...

Tegami Bachi Reverse looks...different. Edgier? Granted, I only saw a few of the first season's episodes and read the first 2 volumes of the manga, so maybe I just don't know enough to tell, but I have to say I'm intrigued.

Tagainu no Chi I'm still holding out hope for. Honestly, besides the possible boys love angle, this is the one I'm most intrigued by this season, besides...

Bakuman I'm really looking forward to. Even if I've heard nothing but negativity about the female characters in this manga. Though, I kind of was expecting that from the creative team behind Death Note...:eyeroll:

Yosuga no Sora looked like it could be good, until I went back and reread blkmage's initial post...:shake:

Hetalia Season Four I'll watch, once I've seen season 3, that is.

These are all under the condition that they are streamed legally. And after all the legal streams we had last season, I'm pretty optimistic about that. ;)
