Too bad 2 of those won't work for me (Hulu and Crunchyroll)

Not sure about the anime news network, but I'm wagering region lockout is a certainty in any legal movie / TV provider.

"Part 1 (of 4)" suggests you're not going to do the logical thing and keep all this in one thread. I certainly hope not, since otherwise this would be a very useful and convenient thread to have around.

Also.

that's correct, Fish. I decided to have one site per thread. That seems more logical and less cluttering.

I am trying to figure out how more threads would equal less cluttered but no matter how hard I try it defies all common sense and logic. Especially since I'm pretty sure the mods' first thoughts will be "I'll just merge this second thread with your first thread on the same subject." The better way to do this would be to type out the whole thing beforehand and make four posts in a row, one post for each site. This would keep it all to one thread and allows for the anime to be grouped together yet also separated...while ALSO keeping the boards from being cluttered with four threads on the exact same thing.

Oh, I guess it does make more sense to do it your way. I didn't think of that. Thanks, Nate. Mods, could you please take out the "part 1 of 4" part of my title? I will be adding hulu later. Also, if any of you out there know of any other free sites that are LEGAL, please post it here or pm me.

Well, you also have:

Funimation Video Portal

Viz Anime
-Although, I believe this one uses Hulu for all of its shows. So, either way...

The Anime Network
-Most of the shows do require subscription to watch fully I think, but there are a handful that are fully free to everyone or only require registration (like Princess Tutu, Angelic Layer, Ghost Stories, and Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok to name some). Registration is completely free.

You should probably make the distinction between shows that are incomplete (which are complete but aren't completely available) and shows that are currently airing (which will eventually be complete, but aren't because they are still airing on Japanese television), as those two do not quite mean the same thing.

Keep in mind that Funimation.com itself often has content (i.e. dubbed episodes, the complete series, etc) not available on Hulu or its own Youtube channel.

What's unique about Crunchyroll is that they make an effort to stream shows that are currently airing in Japan each season, which is why I suggested making the distinction between incomplete shows and shows that are still airing. The big thing that subscribers pay for is the ability to watch currently airing shows within 24 hours of their Japanese airing. Those who don't pay get to watch the show one week later, so in effect, they'll be one week behind.

This happened when CR went from fansub site to officially sponsored site. They had listings for all sorts of cool, never licensed, hard to find anime and dramas, and then they went official and in the transition, their old listings stayed up. Maybe they're going from Officially sponsored to owned by 4kids, now.

The only reason I found out at all was because I went to watch Baccano! on Hulu and saw "expires in 16 hours" on some of the videos. If it hadn't been for that, I wouldn't have found out about the deadline. I'm just glad I can watch it on FUNimation's own site and on Youtube.
Oh, and Spice and Wolf is on Youtube. The whole thing, I think.

I KNOW! Seriously?! You have to pay a subscription fee past the first one or two episodes to watch a show. Not a terrible thing, but compared to Crunchyroll, where you get it after a certain amount of time.....

Thanks so much for posting... man, I didn't realize how much free, LEGAL anime was out there... I mean, I'm on crunchyroll, but didn't realize other sites had stuff, too. Yay, back to sleepless nights checking out anime! Or something like that (takes obsessive notes anyways)...
