Halo Universe Breaks New Ground with Unveiling of Halo Legends Anime ProjectWell, that's the best thing I've heard at Comic-Con 09 so far. Mamoru Oshii and Shinji Aramaki are at the helm of the project, so I'm definitely in. Also, the fact that this is made by the team behind
Batman Gotham Knight and
The Animatrix makes me anticipate this even more. There haven't been any ensemble anime based on another medium that have been bad, to my knowledge.

Sooooo red vs. Blue anime version? XD
In all seriousness though, this sounds really cool. I've always been more interested in the Halo universe storyline than the actual games.

Cool!
Like Mech I was never interested in the game much. I really didn't play it much either. Still the story did capture my attention.

You know, that sounds like it might be awesome. Might suck, but it might also be awesome.

I loved the "I Love Bees" radio drama, and I know a bit about the novels, so this does sound interesting.

This is the first notice I take that there's a complex story behind Halo. I always thought of it as another FPS iteration of the "badass dude with special outfit takes on evil aliens/demons/alien demons, but hey, we also got sweet graphics! story". Likewise, i wouldn't feel the least interested by this if it wasn't for the name "Mamoru Oshii".

When I finally get down to putting together my edit of I Love Bees, I think everyone here should listen to it. You can listen to it for free on the website
http://www.ilovebees.com but I'm gonna make a version that's in a better order than separating things by character. I Love Bees is a story in parallel to the end of Halo 1 and the beginning of Halo 2 that takes place on Earth.

So we are going to have Roughnecks Starship Troopers Chronicles show version two now?
But seriousness, what took them so long. A lot of people have been interested in the Halo universe storyline. Like a few others, never cared about the games, just the storyline.

The Halo Canon outside the videogames is actually an incredibly fascinating and complex story revolving around several novels and graphic novels. This will likely go even deeper.
That said, the trailer is on Youtube and it is AWESOME.

Such as myself. I'm actually anticipating this because of the Halo storyline; I've read the graphic novel and one of the actual novels, as well as played through Halo 1 and 2 on my PC (I don't have a 360).
More info: Six of the shorts in the anime have to do with the Halo universe, but one (made by Toei, I think) is a parody of it. (Now that's the short I can't wait to see.) There will also be a series that is basically a behind-the-scenes look at Halo Legends called Halo Waypoint.

This sounds intriguing. I'm looking forward to seeing it and hoping it turns out to be good.

Storyline wise Halo is one game that has a much better backstory then almost every other game. Its very very well done

Super Robot Taisen OG? Final Fantasy 6? Fire Emblem? TES: Oblivion?
But anyway, yeah, is Microsoft getting that desperate trying to sell 360s in Japan?

I don't know about every other game, but compared to your average dumb shooter it's got a pretty interesting take on the space marines vs. aliens genre. Gears of War could've been right up there if they'd bothered to flesh it out, but at least the game's mechanics are fun.

This thread seems semi-dead, but I wanted to make a contribution. I thought 'Halo Legends' was good for the most part. Some of the shorts were vague in terms of themes (not to mention how some of them didn't necessarily fit in with the canon), but I liked a few of the others. I liked the animation in the short 'Prototype', not to mention its theme of redemption. I also liked the short 'Origins', which not only gives a summary of the Halo Universe but also has a reflective tone to it.
