New Fullmetal Alchemist anime tv series to premiere in April

ANN wrote:The official website for the new Fullmetal Alchemist television anime series has launched with a short teaser video, and it has confirmed that the television series will launch in Japan in April. It also promised that new information will be provided in the January issue of Square Enix's Monthly Shonen Gangan magazine (where Hiromu Arakawa's original manga is still serialized) on December 12. The same issue will also include a poster with a key visual image.

The new Fullmetal Alchemist teaser trailer ran at the end of the episode of Mobile Suit Gundam 00 Second Season that aired in Japan on Sunday. The trailer says, "New training … a fullmetal artificial limb, a body of armor … the brothers' journey begins. Fullmetal Alchemist: April 2009 Training. In this palm, is there hope or despair?"

The new television anime series was confirmed on the wraparound jacket band of the 20th volume of Hiromu Arakawa's Fullmetal Alchemist manga in August. However, a document with leaked information about animators who worked at BONES had already mentioned the possibility of "Hagane 2" ("Iron/Fullmetal 2") in July.

Aww man, you beat me to it.
Think this might wind up on Adult Swim like the last one?

Makes sense, since Soul Eater's ending its run in March.

On the one hand, it's Fullmetal Alchemist animated with everything BONES has learned from the last five years, and hopefully broadcast in 720p.

On the other hand, it's not a second season of Ouran. :<

April eh? Interesting. I didn't think the new season was so close.

And since BONES is still handling things, I hope they spend some of their budget on fine tuning the details and colors for this one. I enjoyed the original FullMetal Alchemist, but the colorization was always sort of flat and generic, and the backgrounds, holy crap, the backgrounds. I've always felt a darker, sharper tint would fit the series better. It's not a major problem, but after watching some of BONES more recent efforts, I'm going to be disappointed if all buildings are essentially four polished blank slates.

I still have mixed feelings on how this will turn out, but I am looking forward to seeing what Bones will do.

hagaren.jp

Prepare to be disappointed.

Hmm, perhaps the kind of contrast in coloring from Darker than BLACK would be good here. Something sharp, yeah. The art doesn't look wholly different in Hagaren 2, although I swear, call me delusional, but Roy's character design is different. And Ed's, a little bit.

YAH I noticed that too! I was like "Roy's face is wider, and his eyes are different..hmm"

I am still confused by this, is this going to be like restarting from the beginning? Or just leaving off where the anime moved from the original plot? Is it going to continue where the series left off?

Total restart, attempting to be "100% faithful" to the manga. So none of that.... last few eps + movie stuff especially.

yah after I posted my reply I was like:
"Wait, Roy still has BOTH eyes... it can't be a continuation...
hmm that sounds kinda... lameish I mean wasn't a good chunk of the first 30 or so episodes similar to the manga? I heard around the death of a certain homunculi was when they started deviating..^^;

Sooo in other words:
The last 20 or so episodes+the movie can be considered one large batch of OVAs?

Roy's eyes look ooodd... And Ed's face in that last scene in the trailer too. o.O

Doesn't seem like they made it any darker, like Fish said. Woulda been nice if they did.

I'm all for it, but the art is kinda odd in the faces or something.

I'm wondering if the shots they used were from the new anime, because based on the few seconds of animation they showed us, it looks pretty much the same.

OK, I usually refrain from these things on this forum, but . . . *clears throat*

OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG, I HAD NOOOOOO IDEA THEY WERE DOING THIS.
WAAAAAAH OMG.

Now, back to normal. This is just too cool :3.

I don't mind that the anime deviated from the manga, because personally, I don't mind the anime being different from the manga (not always the case though). However, I am still looking forward to this. I'm excited, but the only thing I can think now is, "Where am I going to get the money to buy this when its released in the US!?"

Oh well, I shall continue to collect the first anime while I wait, and worry about that later! ^_^;

From what I know. They just used the animation from FMA series. So far, there has been art work or screen shots of the new one.

So, for those of you who love YUI as much as I do, you will be thrilled to hear that she's doing the first OP for the new FMA, titled "again".

OP: "Again"

And the OP and ED look sweet! *o* Thanks for posting them, Fish.

The OP and ED seems to have been removed from YouTube, so I missed them. Having just finished the first series for the first time and now having started the manga, I'm super excited aobut this! :D

A remake. It seems to be much more well done than the last series was, and follows the manga more closely. It's kind of like the FMA anime grew up and got awesome. At least, that's what I thought when I saw the first episode the other day. XD
