Urusei Yatsura questions

Postby Momo-P » Wed Jun 25, 2008 9:35 pm

From what I've seen of this series I like it, but I obviously don't care so much for all the perverted jokes. Thankfully the movies seem tamer, but I thought I should see if there are an experts here. Does the original series lighten up some as it goes on? And how are the OVAs?

Thanks!

The OVAs I can't really speak to. The TV series and manga, as they progress and the characters get better developed, lean a little more on story and a little less on perverted humor. The movies are drawn from the later parts of the series, so they can be taken as guidance.

However, Moroboshi's wandering eyes are ALWAYS still part of the story. It's as key to the series as Ranma and Akane's inability to admit they're in love with each other. But as the UY universe fills in and more characters join the fun, there's less room for it.
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
May He cause His face to shine upon you.
May He lift up His countenance and grant you peace.

Ataru's lechery remains a strong plot device through out the TV series. The strength of the tendency ebbs and flows through out the series, but it becomes more like a familiar fall-back plot device to help introduce and establish the various characters and storylines as well as allow for comic relief than a source for actual stories.

The OVA's cover more stories from the manga from after the end of the anime series. The production quality is mostly better but there's not a lot of new ground broken. We do get introduced to several new characters from the manga that had not made it to the anime before.

If Ataru's lechery is a deal-breaker for you, it will probably never be far enough removed as a plot device for your tastes. If you see it as "There goes that idiot agian" kind of comic relief, then I would think it would be easily tolerated late into the series.

Well I've seen up episode three or four and didn't mind what was going on later, it's just that episode one was pretty strong in the perv department, so I just wanted to make sure it didn't spark back up and keep going throughout the series. ^^;

So thank you so much guys! Definitely going to have to buy dvd's when I can.
