Go-Lion to be release by Media Blasters

In May 27th Media Blasters is releasing the first collection of the Go-Lion anime series (Hyakujuu-o GoLion) that provided the source material for the U.S. series Voltron: Defender of the Universe. The 52-episode Go-Lion was not the first "combining-robot" anime series, but it was distinct in that it featured a mystical rather than a mechanical basis for the combination. The Go-Lion animation was cut and combined with footage from Dairugger XV to create Voltron. Much of the violence in Go-Lion was excised during its adaptation for Saturday morning showings in the U.S. as Voltron, so it should come as no surprise that the Media Blasters' Go-Lion release carries a 16+ rating.



Media Blasters is releasing a 3-disk Go-Lion Box Set that will include nearly 400 minutes of animation for an MRSP of $34.99. As is increasingly common these days, Media Blasters' Go Lion release will be only available in a subtitled version.

I've always wondered what we missed the first time around when it was Voltron. I'll definitely want to check this out

I personally don't know anything about Go-Lion, except that I like the theme song. XD; I want to see it though.

Just out of curiosity...why would you want it dubbed?

I like to hear it in English. I have a long-term goal of becoming conversational in Japanese, but until that happens, I'd like to be able to follow the story without having to read it.

I don't mind subtitles when all I am doing is watching the show, but I'm not really one to just watch TV. I watch TV and do other things unless whatever I'm watching demands more of my attention. I have a feeling the Go Lion will not be one of those demanding a lot of attention to understand what is going on.
