The Five Killers

The next project from the people behind Afro Samurai, the tenatively titled Five Killers, combining Japanese animation (Gonzo) with American writing. The show's slated for a 12 episode run, the finale clocking in at an hour, sometime during 2008.
3 die, 2 survive, 1 lives...forever.
I haven't seen Afro Samurai, but this looks like it might have some promise. A simple premise, but good execution (err...). Very strong film noir/James Bond vibes going on here. I only hope there's some actual plot and characterization tucked away in there under all the violence, but we'll see, shan't we?
And if I had to guess, mature content warning.

I saw only bits and pieces of Afro Samurai, in part because it didn't motivate me to watch it entirely. But the premise seems to have potential and it's a Gonzo work, so I may keep tabs on this.

The only problem that I have is, they are taking to long to get this done.
After reading about it and seeing the trailer in July, I would have thought we would hear more about this by now.
The last thing that came up as news for this series is, the talks with some networks in airing the show and that was in Aug and nothing has been talk about since then.

the plot concept is pretty simple, yet intriguing. the animation and action should be quite good. i might check into the series if the content level isn't incredibly high. but if it's anything like afro samurai, then i'm probably gonna avoid it...

As of right now, none. The last update about that was in Aug in the blog.
This was the last update about the series.

I have a feeling that it may have a good plot.
The original story comes from Afro Samurai producer Eric Calderon
Comic book scribe Mark Waid (Kingdom Come) and George Krstic (Star Wars Clone Wars, Megas XLR) have written the screenplay
Tomohiro Hirata (Trinity Blood) is directing the pilot for the 12-episode series

This looks interesting. Also predictable. But I will probably watch it.

This does look awesome! And one of the killers is from my continent (Africa yay, which also unfortunately means I'll possibly never see it). I hope he doesn't die!

The only thing I am not so excited about is all the probable *ahem* scenes that will be in this...
I checked out the character bios...doesn't look too positive for those of us who would like to watch more smut free stuff... if you know what I mean.
Hopefully those are just implied and nothing else...
XD Apparently, the blonde is a constant drunk.

Yeah, "Probable scenes."
I can already tell Bomb (the blonde) is going to be my least favorite character. I'll probably prefer even the main villain over her.
I have a strong suspicion it'll come down to Sword and the two female killers in the end. Balancing personalities, Knife looks like the cocky, annoyingly smug guy with a dark demeanor who never survives, and Gun just has a higher likelyhood of getting shot, though hopefully not early on. If Sword dies, he'll probably be the last to drop. If Bomb dies, she'll blow herself up.
But Vampire won't die.

I'm thinking this would be on Spike, MTV or any other Viacom channel but Nick.
Seriously, this show looks great but it will be very, ahem, predictable.

Doesn't the plot summary explicitly say Knife is the first to go? I agree he fits that general archetype, however. I don't like him or Bomb, but between the other three I don't have a strong preference. That could be simply because we know little about the series, or because it will have a solid cast. The villain is also a bit of an unknown, but right now he seems fairly flat.

*siiiigh* Why do the bishies have to die first? Knife...is very cool looking...although I doubt I will like his character...
I am rooting for Sword or Vampire! ^_^;

Knife might not be completely out of the game--he was Vampire's ex-boyfriend and "obsessed with the occult". Chances of him being somehow resurrected are favorable, given how anime tends to work.
Boy, this has been around for sometime and I've only heard of it just now (not that that's unusual for me). Hopefully it'll get picked up soon.

That was my guess as well.

Actually, it's an American effort, so it should hit home before it goes over seas.

Another gorgeous action series with no depth...sweet I'll probably buy it anyway.
