I haven't read much of the Dune series, but from what I've seen it's complicated and confusing enough to make a good anime XP
I also think Harry Potter might make a good anime. Seven seasons, you know.... They could have much more of the books in them than the movies.

I would love to see ChristianKitsune's Stick Monkey comic made into an anime! That's one I would absolutely buy (Budget permitting of course.)

Ace Combat: I have always wanted to see a figher jet anime. I know there is Yukikaze and Area 88, but I don't want an anime about a science fiction AI co-pliot planes or a mercenary air force. I would love to see a good old figher jet/war anime.

Ace Combat 4, 5 and Zero had some good storylines in it and I feel that Bandai/Namco is missing out on making a good jet figher anime.

Soul Calibur: Another Namco game, that would be a great idea for an anime. Now that Bandai brought out Namco in 1996, they could turn this game into anime.

William Shakespeare's Hamlet: Here is a story that should be anime. I'm happy and really really want to see Romeo X Juliet. But Hamlet was one of Shakespeare's best known works and it would be sad not to turn this play into an anime.

Starship Troopers: It was made into CGI cartoon called: Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles and aired on the Sci Fi Channel years ago. There was an Starship Troopers OVA done in Japan in 1998 and was the most accurate adaptation of Robert A. Heinlein's novel.

So, I don't see why they don't make an anime series out of the book.

I think that with a good director and studio CS Lewis' Till we have faces would make an excellent anime, but it would probably make a better feature-length movie. Still I'd love to see it in either format.

Also I think GK Chesterton's The Man who was Thursday would make a good one too. The story has a lot of philosophy, theology and surrealism in it but also a lot of humour.

The little known book, Foucault's Pendulum by Umberto Eco would also make a good anime miniseries (must have 12 episodes), given the fact that it would be nigh impossible to film and needs an extended run-time to make it's ending seem plausible. Also The Name of the Rose by the same author would also be good, given that the movie with Sean Connery is supposedly not so good.

And an anime miniseries of Neil Gaiman's Sandman books would be excellent.

For some time, it's been me secret ambition to see a TRUE Sonic Anime realized, and on that note am waiting for a Final Fantasy IX adaption, and possibly some MGS stuff (keep the American video game voice actors that way).

Even though I would still love the manga more, the idea of a Yotsuba anime sound very appealing with the situations that could happen. Plus, some of the scenes might help the series become more well known, or not. I would however request that the series have a more unique taste from most anime series.

I would definitely watch. I may not have been around for most of them, and when I was I didn't really post on them, but I did read them. And I think they were hilarious. I would love to see Ashley and co. in animated action!

I'm with ya on the Sonic anime. Properly done. Like...SatAM stuff. Bring that back. Sonic X?....too....childish. SatAM was a little more "mature", i.e. scaring the crap outta little kids when they see cute rabbits being roboticized. lol

I'd have to say a true Legend of Zelda anime.
OR A really nice Star Fox anime.

Lots of Nintendo stuff could be tossed into an anime now that you think about it.

I'd actually really like to see a 20th Century Boys anime. I've heard there's a live action movie coming out soon, but I'd rather see a lengthy anime adaptation instead, since there's less chance of too much story being fit into a 2-hour time slot. XD

Also, because it would be amazing, a Yotsuba&! anime.

Any book by Ted Dekker...Probably the best choices would be the Circle Trilogy and Showdown....Though, they might be better movies, if those movies had anime-esque elements....

And I'd like to see a Sonic anime as well. I think the reason Sonic X seemed too childish is because we English-speakers got a watered-down version from 4Kids. If someone else got the rights (like the whole thing with Funimation getting the rights to One Piece {please do not take this into a discussion...I'm not sure if OP made it onto the DND list due to arguments!!}), maybe they wouldn't cut anything or as much. I'm sorry to say though that after hearing J. Griff's great acting job in Sonic and the Secret Rings, I've become sort of attached to that voice for Sonic...but nothing will sway my decision as to Shadow's best VA. I'm stickin' with the original David Humphrey. But Ryan Drummond's Sonic was also pretty good. I was initially upset when I heard he was being replaced. But then again, I'm hoping they keep Lisa Ortiz for Amy and Kathleen Delaney for Rouge, because I wasn't a big fan of their original VAs.

Anyways, so yeah: Yotsuba&!, true Sonic anime (not childish but still fairly clean), Kitchen Princess (a series I'm reading...it's really good so far), and Trace Memory (I'm waiting for a live action Hotel Dusk as well ^^).

Just last night (after watching the first episode of the weird anime Gankutsuou, which is heavily based on The Count of Monte Cristo), I was thinking what a Crime and Punishment anime would be like. I know, I know, everyone would probably groan and say, "That would be such a boring anime!" I don't know, but I think if it was handled right, with just the right kind of developers and such, it would work - rather well, in fact. Or maybe it would be better as a manga, something kinda like Monster.

The old musical about a scottish village appears only once every century.... BRIGADOON!

The old story about a mad whaling boat captain and his manic quest... MOBY DICK!

Or, the old legend about a man wandering the old Northwest Territory communing with nature and planting orchards.... APPLESEED!

Okay, I'm just having a little fun. Seriously, I would love to see Anime of some of the Sci-Fi and Fantasy from the fifties through the seventies. This is stuff that had a very obvious impact on Anime as we know it. It's clear that the creators were influenced by the literature of the day.

Sometimes they admit it, too. The creator of "Gundam" admits it was directly inspired by Starship Troopers. Not a rip, mind you; they are very different stories. But he started trying to imagine his own 'powered armor' story after reading Heinlein's book. Before Gundam, most Mecha were individual super-robots, not widely distributed military hardware. Gundam spawned a lot of anime where the Mecha are relatively common equipment (the various 'Super-Dimension' stories, Patlabor, VOTOMS, etc.)

Another author I suspect had a strong influence was James Schmitz. His stories are filled with fun, personally likable heroes (including a lot of strong female heroes) with either skills or powers allowing them to right wrongs and make life better for everyone. Very Anime-esque, in other words, but Schmitz was writing in the fifties and sixties. Especially, I would love to see either his Telzey Amberdon stories as Anime, or his masterwork novel "The Witches of Karres." Both would make brilliant Anime.

I would wish for better artwork, but I think the writing for 2kinds is brilliant.

One which has both brilliant artwork and writing is "Digger" by Ursula Vernon (found on Graphic Smash). Unfortunately, you can only read the current panel and some of the early chapters if you aren't a member. And Digger would make a great anime.

(The first three volumes-worth of Digger are also available in print form. I'm only plugging 'cause it's a favorite. No cash changed hands for this advertisement!)

Wanted to add, I think several Heinlein books would make good Anime, beyond Starship Troopers. Since the astronomy is dated in them, I think they would have to be relocated to an extra-solar star system, but both Podkayne of Mars and Red Planet would be my first choices.

Also, Asimov had more than a few good ones. I think 'Caves of Steel' would be brilliant.

And Gordon Dickson wrote a large number of books in a framework called the 'Childe Cycle' that might be interesting.

Anne McCaffery's Pern is just begging for some kind of screenplay. Dragon Riding was around long before 'Eragon', you know!

Ursula Leguin's Morgaine stories, starting with "Gate of Ivrel" are also practically anime already.

BTW: To the guy who suggested "Star Trek". It's been done, in the mid-seventies, and it was very, very good (won an Emmy, in fact.) In a few ways, one can tell it had a low budget (lots of repeatedly used musical queues and animating shortcuts employed) but they recruited good writers, used most of the original Star Trek actors as voice actors, and created the opposite of the embarrassment one might have expected an American animation company in the mid-seventies to crank out.
