Narutaru

I've watched the first episode of this anime and my first impressions are that it's a cutesy anime that would be perfect for kids. The childish opening, the cute Hosimaru, yep it all looks like it's an anime for kids. Are my impressions right? If anyone can tell me what Narutaru is like later on in the series i'd be grateful.

I've only seen a little bit of Narutaru myself, but from what I've heard the appearance of it being cutesy and childish is misleading. Even in the early stuff I have seen, there's some rather dark stuff going on in the plot, and apparently it takes the forefront later on.
Anyone who knows more than me wanna add anything?

You're right....
I really don't think that there is really a true anime series that is ment for kids. Take Sonic X for example. It's characters seem very much for younger kids, yet the story is so complex and definetly becomes darker as it progresses.

Really?
Your honor, I'd like to call
Hamtaro to the stand...

Okay, what is Narutaru like cointent wise? Is there violence, fanservice or bad language?

Narutaru... wait, isn't that one of the ecchi series I remember hearing about when it first came out?

SO VIOLENT. It's not for kids at all. USM rated it 16+ and for good reason. There's extreme violence including murder, hangings, and torture, involving preteens and children. Even Higurashi no Naku Koro ni was less disturbing than Narutaru. The violence is the most shocking aspect. There's also mild fanservice. Don't watch if you're under 13 AT THE LEAST.

Wow. And that's saying something.

Wow, i had no idea it was anything like that. However, if it's like higurashi i might enjoy it. What's the violence level like? The level of higurashi? The level of Elfen Lied?

It's no Elfen Lied but it's no Higurashi either. It's in the middle, but like I said, it's disturbing. Even though most of the violence is indirectly seen/implied it leaves an emotional impact on the viewer that Higurashi never would. There's even
an attempted rape by a kid.
I just finished the series myself and I can say in all honesty it's no anime for kids. It's done by the same director of Bokura ga Ita, another disturbing anime.
Although I'm not sure what ilikegir is talking about, mass murder, extreme violence against people known to the viewer (much more of an impact then the no-name guard)
This anime will disturb you, and you'll most likely have a hard time sleeping after watching it.

A big thank you to ilikegir for that.
This is perhaps one of the greatest examples of never judging a book by its cover, except opposite.
Actually, that's a bad term. What is the term for something that looks innocent but goes to the level of 16+ content?

I've just finished Narutaru and perhaps the best way to describe it might be this:
Narutaru is about as disturbing as Elfen Lied is violent.
I don't think there is any term for something that starts out innocent and goes to a 16+ rating.

I think that Narutaru and Higurashi are in the same league of the anime that have cute characters killing/torturing each other. I call those type of anime "killer kawaii". These anime more than deserve 16+ ratings, possibly even 18+. But they're more disturbing than violent, perhaps.

The thing I find most disturbing about Narutaru is the marketing. If you ever saw the English web page for this, you would assume it is a sweet wonderful show aimed primarily at kids and younger teens. A pokemon kind of thing.
Sick. Sick.Sick. A twisted, evil thing dressed in cute colors and bookended by some of the catchiest beginning and ending theme music in Anime history. These people should be prosecuted. Okay, I understand about the freedom of speech thing, but if I DID happen to find myself World Dictator....
Yeah, probably a good thing I'm not. Just give this show a pass. I really wish that I had, when I had the chance.

Yeah the show was too disturbing for me, I quit watching it when I got to the third DVD.
