Toki Wo Kakeru Shoujo

So, I just saw this movie and all I can say is: It's amazing. It's probably the best anime movie I've ever seen. And I've seen my share. The only thing that makes it even better is that there is almost no objectionable content. There's one bath scene, but nothing more than knees and shoulders are seen, and there's a few D*mns, but that's it

This movie is awesome. You guys have to see it before it gets licensed and then buy it after it does. I know I'm going to!

I wouldn't say that it's the best ever, but you do have to go back to Spirited Away to find anythng of its quality. It's a superior piece of work, and I hope that it's licensed soon. (And I hope that the book that inspired it is translated soon, also.)

The poster looks cute, what's it about?

The title is usually translated as "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time." Makoto is a high school student who aquires the ability to jump backwards in time. At first it's just a game for her, but she soon learns that the changes she makes have consequences.

So it's about a time traveling girl? Sounds interesting.

Oh my friend saw that movie in Theatres awhile back (she lives in Japan...Okinawa, I think) and she said it was really, really good....

I remember she explained it, and I thought it sounded very good, but I've forgotten what it was about now...

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo)

Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo has now replaced Omohide Poro Poro as my favorite "not available for Region 1" anime. I have no idea about its viability as a release in English anytime in the near future.

Superb animation quality, a good (if sometimes confusing) plot line, and alternating funny, frightening, and sad moments are successfully strung together (and appropriately amplified with the requisite angst) in this slice-of-life drama.

While the title (literally, The Girl Who Runs Through Time) sounds more on the sci-fi/"Quantum Leap" genre, there really isn't much in the way of science or history here -- just a girl who finds herself able to manipulate the flow of time. Her decisions about how to use her ability are all too human...

I hope this comes to English audiences, but I'm not holding my breath.

Pardon my deja-view (that's always a very funny term to use) but I'm absolutely sure mangafanatic already made a topic about this film a month or so ago. I still have to watch it though. XD

I actually think this movie has a more than decent chance at domestic licensing. It was big budget, produced by big names (Character design was done by the same person who created the character design for Evangelion [and you can tell]), and the plot is pretty appealing to a Western audience, meaning
it has a moderately happy ending and doesn't rely very heavily on cultural references.
So yeah, my money's on this one getting a domestic release.

Whoops! Sorry, did a Search and came up with nothing, so... my bad.

What are you waiting for??? :)

I personally feel that anything Makoto Shinkai did after Spirited Away earns the category of "great non series films". And Gaku no ue no Ponyo may or might not be like his older his works. We'll have to wait and see.

Meanwhile, I need to go watch the film of subject itself. XD *goes to watch film*

When did I ever say that? My opinion of Howl is much less charitable.

*blinks*

I had, the same opinion. But couldn't say it for my love of Miyazaki. Thank you for letting out my feelings. XD

Actually, the plot did make very little to no sense to me in all honesty. The animation was amazing yes but, why have a beautiful statue when it can't say a single word to you? It's inanimate.

Something weird going on with this thread. That was a quote of me, not you. And things I posted are listed under other people, with me being listed as the poster for stuff someone else said. This thread has been scrambled somehow.

Sorry guys. It's probably some hang ups with the new system. We're still working out some glitches. :)

Oh, and Eric, let me say that I think I may have accidentally screwed up one of your posts. We've changed some of the moderator controls on the new system, and I THINK I accidentally pressed edit instead of quote. So, that's probably on my head. I've removed the post where my words were blamed on you. XD

Here it is. And I take the blame for it:
Yeah. To date, Miyizaki's done. . . what, three "last films before retirement." Personally, I think Miyizaki's going to die with a pen in his hand. He just can't give it up. He loves it too much, and he's too particular to his vision to allow his studio to deviate it. I'll be interested to see what happens with Gake no ue no Ponyo, though, since the early concept drawings that I've seen and descriptions I've read seem to indicate that the film will have a very unique "water color" look. It remains to be seen whether that's going to work or not.

Another film that I think has potential to rival Toki Wo Kakeru Shoujo for good anime films made in recent years is "5cm per Second." I've been waiting to see that one since the concept was announced.
