How would you use the Death Note?

Postby Sheol777 » Mon Apr 16, 2007 6:03 pm

Within the anime there are many other various and sundry "rules" to make the story more intriguing in Death Note, but for the sake of the people who do not know them. The concept of Death Note is basically this:

If you write anyone's name in the Death Note while thinking of their face, they die.

My question posed to you....how would you use the Death Note?

So you're asking us who we'd kill if we could?

Who am I to make such a call over the lives and deaths of others? I'd burn it, though I would be tempted to hold on to such a thing should another Hitler rise up. And even then, that's not including the "Neither Heaven nor Hell" clause.

In short, I'd most certainly destroy it.

Dangit, now everyone's going to think I copied the stereotypical British foodstuff. XD

I would also burn it. No human being should have such power, except for Jesus [who already does].

Besides, if I'm going to defend the ones I love, I'd rather not have to see the attacker's face clearly, know their name and how to spell it, and then have to write it down and wait 40 seconds. I'd rather have a compact single-action .40 caliber handgun with +P hollowpoints in an easily accessible, discreet holster, thanks. It's considerably more practical.

XD You know, you make a good point, there.

Anyways, I'm going with the above two and say that I'd destroy it. Only God has power over life and death. *nodnod*

I would use it to establish a new world order where I would hold the ability to punish any criminal for wrongdoing and protect the innocent via my own sense of twisted justice.

If you tell me someone's already tried that, I'd cry.

EDIT: Also, Jack Thompson most certainly would have to go. ;)

I doubt I'd use it, but I doubt I'd get rid of it either. I'm sure I'd stash it away in case there ever came a time when I needed its use for my purposes, but I'd want to try and stay away from killing people, as temp[ting as it would be to off some of my classmates.

Alternatively, I'd get ticked off at someoen and off them, and eventually there wouldn't really be anyone left, cause the first time each person ticked me off they'd be gone.

id want to take out huge terrorist leaders, like osama- if he wasn't already dead. but (as a Christian) I wouldn't use it...id' burn it...as tempting as it would be to take out terrorists and large criminals, that whole "User doesn't go to heaven or hell" thing doesn't make me feel to good - ps dont add any spoilers, im only on episde 13 lol

Oh yeah, forgot about the 'no heaven or hell' thing. That'd definately make me think thrice about using it, but I think my first explanation still stands for the most part.

Not being a death note fan, I'm a little unclear - who doesn't go to either heaven or hell? The guy writing the names or his victims?

Either way, I doubt I could justify writing anyone's name in the book with out also writing my own since I can not imagine a worse sinner than myself nor can I imagine a sin that falls outside the grace of God if one repents.

The whole thing smacks of calling down the power of God to smite someone, but I know that I do not command God, He commands me. So, just who is following through on death note? If it is not God, it is niether righteous nor just for me to use - for evil used for the sake of good is still evil.

The demon that gives the main character the Death Note explains that those who use the Note don't have to worry about heaven or hell when they die. This is a little misleading because...
...it implies that the user of the Note experiences a fate after death different from that of other humans. The truth, as stated by the manga in its conclusion, is that there really is no heaven or hell and those that use the Note learn this truth before death by talking with the demons.
For this reason, I'm assuming that little stipulation shouldn't have too much bearing on this exercise.

I'm not sure what I'd do with it. Burning it would be easy enough, but I'm not sure I could neglect the good left undone by wasting its power.

EDIT: This assumes that our world's Death Note operates in a manner that isn't empowered by demons. Whether its effects are good or bad, using a magical device does make the matter a lot clearer.

Can it be destroyed though?I mean did anyone try to destroy it in either the anime or manga and if so were they successful.Since this appears to be a diabolical creation I would think there would be some catch if you tried to destroy it.

It would be tempting to write down everyone who ever **** you off along with all the terrorists and world leaders you really hate in it,but this would be an improper use of the Death Note in my opinion.I think it should be used rather carefully and only as a last resort.

Did any of the volume extras cover how the Death Note would react in this situation? You could have the face in mind, but how could the name be considered correct? If that could actually kill the character...

Tust me, the name is correct. Just trust me on this one. I know this for a fact.

I'd write my shopping list in it.

Whaddaya mean all the milk died, and the eggs died, and the bacon died, and the laundry detergent died? Wait a minute, how can laundry detergent die, anyway, it wasn't alive in the first place?
