So I watched the first episode of Highschool of the Dead. It was really disappointing. I mean the zombie parts were cool but the story pretty awful and the over the top fanservice was really irritating. I hate (sexual) fanservice period and I think that it is all pointless but this was clearly thrown in their just to be thrown in their. It served no purpose whatsoever to the plot and was just to draw in viewers. I wouldn't recommend this because of that and plus the fact the plot is not very good. I might stick with it for a couple more episodes to see if they tone down the fanservice if not then I will most likely drop it.

Shangri-La episode 1- Well, strong environmental themes run through this, though the rather heavy economics concerning the carbon credits reminds me of Spice and Wolf. I think I"m missing something in translation- the expanations don't quite work, or are too obtuse for me to get.

I should have known you'd love this show! I'm only sorry I never thought to recommend it to you. Glad you found it anyway. Yah, it's cheesy sci-fi, but it's pretty cheesy sci-fi. And there actually is, I guess, a reason the prisoners have the equipment they do, though the explanation opens up a host of other stuff. lol. In other words, you're gonna have a blast!

Jyu-Oh-Sei -- Complete -- Okay so that was a total, utter blast. It would have been worth $20. I adored it. Wyntre was right. The story is somewhat cheesy, but it's...solid for the most part...the music and art are both beautiful. I am glad I found it cheap, because due to its silly promo picture (I'd like to point out that no one, at any point, is in warpaint) I'd been putting off thinking it looked boring. Much love for Jyu-Oh-Sei, even if...

Air ep. 2-3 Wyntre is right again. xD I officially like Air. Although I am not a fan of that art style, it actually fits so well with the tone that I like it.

Watched the first episode of Digimon Xros Wars last night. That...was...AWESOME!!! Digimon continues to not be a disappointment.

Watched the two new noitaminA shows today.

Moyashimon is actually a live-action drama. For all intents and purposes, the first episode was pretty much the first episode of the anime. The microbes are still the best characters on the show. I don't like the OP/ED as much as the anime's (who could argue against Polysics, really). No microbe theatre makes me sad, but I guess the encyclopedia of microbes that goes on during the ED is alright.

I feel like Shiki is a show that needs another episode or two before I can say something of worth, since it's pretty much entirely setup. Nothing horribly wrong with it and if it lives up to the praise the book has received, it'll be good. At least on that front it seems to be doing well, as I've read that the writing related attributes of the episode were fairly faithful to the book.

Man, this must be the season of horror series or something, and they are pretty much all the polar opposite of each other.

Highschool of the Dead - Pretty much what I expected. Zombies and fanservice.
I've never been a huge zombie fan, but this does have good production values. I can see why this is one of the most popular shows this season. Fair amount of fanservice though, and I doubt it decreases.

Occult Academy - Now this was a fairly impressive first episode. It had kind of a campy horror/comedy vibe throughout and was consistently entertaining. The opening is weird and surreal and has references/imagery to all kind of strange fringe topics. Also, there is something to do with time travel. Glad it's on Crunchyroll this time. Senkou no Night Raid had the unfortunate fate of having the translations stalled halfway through.

Shiki - And a horror/mystery title. It's taking it's time to get going going, but I thought it had a suitably creepy atmosphere. Although, Ryu Fujisaki's stylized character designs are rather odd in a horror series like this. Also, loads and loads of characters... You know a series has a lot of characters when they flash up the name and occupation of almost every new character that appears.
Wonder what they will do for an ending, as the manga version they are adapting this from isn't finished yet, I don't believe.

Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan(aka Nurarihyon no Mago) - Kind of an awkward first episode. I can see what they were trying to do, but I don't think it really worked the way they wanted. The episode felt very uneven and choppy. Ah, well, I'll keep watching for now, and see if it evens out. Apparently, the arc that made this series more popular won't even be animated however.

Watched up to episode 40 of Axis Powers Hetalia today. And there are a lot of hilarious things in this anime, but I think what made me laugh the most was hearing Germany and Japan sing the EP...

The Castle of Cagliostro - 10/10

There is a plot synopsis on CAA, so I'll skip that.

This is easily Hayao Miyazaki's most under-appreciated film, which makes sense due to the fact that 99% of anime fandom ignores anything older than Nausica. But any anime fan, of any sort, owes it to themselves to watch this movie. It has influenced numerous American films, both animated and live action. For something made in 1979, the animation is unbelievably gorgeous, even by today's standards. It is no stretch to say that Cagliostro is animated better than most things that come out these days (just observe the backgrounds). The car chase and fight in the clock tower are especially well-executed. If anyone ever wonders what a Miyazaki movie might be like if Hayao didn't force his environmental message onto the audience, then they need to see this b/c the trees and the whales are totally forgotten in favor of pure adventure goodness. Cagliostro never, ever lets you down, as it clips along at its steady (not breakneck) pace. Each of the plot's elements feel right and are satisfying. Cagliostro is a Lupin III movie, but you really don't have to be familiar with the franchise in any way to get enjoyment out of this one. The characters are tons of fun and, again, aren't complicated enough to require research on your part if you haven't seen the series. My only beef is Manga Entertainment's "fifteening" (inserting cursing that was not in the subtitle script into the English dub) in the dub. Now, the dub is solid, and you'd much rather watch the Manga dub than the Streamline dub, but the phantom cursing is the only thing that makes this film PG-13. There is no other objectionable content to be found, and it's a shame the movie isn't totally kid-friendly. Still, this is a must-watch, must-own IMO.

Saint Tail episode 1, and...

...[SIZE="4"]FMA: BROTHERHOOD EPISODE 64!!!!!![/SIZE] 8D I loooooooooved this final episode. It perfectly captured everything from the manga, and then some. Any problems I have with it were in the manga to start with, so I love this thing almost more than the manga, in a weird way (Not that the manga wasn't amazing; I was just hoping for a few little nitpicky things that didn't happen.)

The end of Brotherhood was fantastic. For my money, that is one of the best, if not the best final anime episode ever. It will probably be a decade before we see anything as good as FMA again.

So, Heroman got way better, which means it's now a slightly above-average show! Once the first arc was (thankfully quickly) resolved the show has been much more interesting and less by the numbers. Pretty art helps.

Am I the only guy that is intrigued by The Legend of Legendary Heroes? I dunno...maybe I am just longing for some JRPG goodness, but, while the setting isn't original, I just dig the tone of this show: decidedly an equal distance from the fantasy extremes of Berserk and Slayers. So far the silliness hasn't overrun the story, which has promise, and the characters keep me interested (am a sucker for the rise-from-obscurity-to-the-pinnacle trope). So far, reviewers have been pretty down on it (and it very well could end up being bad), but for now I say give it a chance. The second episode in particular hints at a depth that many shows of this kind don't posses.

I'm actually liking The Legend of the Legendary Heroes more than I thought I would, although I am admittedly biased towards fantasy/RPGs. Second episode was better than the first as it was a better introduction to the main characters. I'm curious as to how much the anime will cover as there are quite a few light novels.
But, man, is that title awkwardly redundant.

Full Metal Panic 6+7 - This one is really surprising me. I'm liking it a lot, though. I will say, it has some of the most random moments of fanservice I've ever seen... But the story is gripping, and the characters are very easy to sympathize with.

I am wondering something, though. I've read that FMP has 2 "heavy" seasons, and a "light" season, but that it hasn't finished the light novel story yet. What I am wondering is if the anime has any sense of closure, or does the last season end on a cliffhanger?

Le Chevalier D'Eon thru 17 --aaannnddd dropped. I was enjoying it, but the occult content was waaaay too heavy and spiritually disturbing.

Air TV thru 10 -- I am still loving Air! Though the recent turn of events kind of makes me mentally go "what the heck?" but I will see how it ends up going.

Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan ep. 1 -- I am a sucker for cliched shounen. I started this episode the day it came out, ditched it halfway through, but went back and finished it today and liked it! It was fun! Jun Fukuyama is always a huge plus too.

Shiki ep. 1 -- Not sure what I am going to be thinking about this, I did enjoy the second half of the episode. As long as Megumi is not constantly present, or she gets less irritating (which at this point seems pretty likely) I think I will get immense enjoyment out of this. Though, now I need to watch Higurashi because I told Atria I would.

D. Gray-Man ep. 36 -- still loving it. =) It's starting to feel like an old friend, though I am not a huge fan of the episodes not including Allen, Komui or Lavi.

Legend of the Legendary Heroes ep. 1-2 -- that. was. awesome. I was just tickled with glee. The characters are fun, have personality, and it's cheesy with just enough seriousness to keep it from getting old me thinketh. I will be watching the second episode after (hopefully) fixing this blasted glitch on my computer.

EDIT: Episode 2 has shown tha this has a hidden level of "quality." It was not just pure, silly angst, but an actually sad backstory that made me concerned and worried for the characters and almost pound my fists when it ended. I have a feeling this is going to be a favorite of this season.

I am on the sixth episode of Tales of Abyss (based off of the video game ^_^)
INSTANTLY a favorite. I know some people out there think Luke is annoying, but he's really a great character. Very innocent/heroic, naive and extremely cute, if you could call it that... The character's are immensely interesting, and even though you know where the plot is going, it continues to be interesting

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Upon finishing it, I have to say that it is probably the best adaption I could ever hope for. It stays true enough to the manga to be seriously awesome, trims bits of the story here and there for coherence and pacing's sake, and animates the fights extremely well.

Unfortunately, it also rushes the first 13 episodes so much that it can be a bit of a turn-off to people who aren't willing to stick it out. Also, large portions of the Ishvalan war arc are completely removed and never mentioned, which is extremely sad. They definitely should have expanded that flashback into two episodes and removed the recap episode entirely. That way, they would have still ended up with 64 episodes, yet had much deeper character backgrounds.

Finally, the last episode differed from the manga in pretty much every scene, often to its own detriment in my opinion. After seeing the ending and then going back and reading it again, I can't help but feel that the emotion has just been sucked right out of homecoming (although I can't exactly place how or why). Mustang's mustache was also pretty tacky, and the scene with the Elrics on the rooftop kind of fell flat and pointless (in the manga, it was used as an illustration of how life could almost be better doing things the old fashioned way, without alchemy). Oh, well. It is still one of the best things I have seen, at any rate.

Great show, all around. The ending wasn't really conclusive or explosive or grand, but that is understandable considering that there are more episodes to follow. Like Fish, I could have done with a little less exposition, but I thought it was very well done on a whole. If I hadn't already seen Brotherhood, I would have thought it would be impossible to have so many cool characters in a single show.
