Episode 61 of FMA: Brotherhood was just...absolutely insane. I was totally floored. Fantastic.

Agreed! House of Five Leaves is definitely one of my favorites this season, and Summer Wars is spectacular!

I've been stuck in bed for a couple days now with some sickness or other, so I've been watching a lot of anime.

FMA Brotherhood episodes 1-30. After finishing the manga I decided to pick this up, and I'm loving it so far. A contender for a spot on my favorites list already, and I’m less than halfway through. Though I admit I miss the music from the original series...

Episodes 1-4 of Cross Game. I love baseball anime, and this is no exception! Thanks to Steena for the recommendation!

House of Five Leaves maintains its quality, Yumeiro Patissiere is as stupidly fun and adorable as ever, Angel Beats is...meh...and Ookiku Furikabutte~Natsu no Taikai Hen~ continues to remind me why I’m such a fan of Oofuri. I can’t wait for episode 12 (tried to watch it raw, but I couldn’t understand half of it, so I gave up). I can’t even express how disappointed I was when I found out that it would only be 13 episodes...

So...I could go on, but suffice it to say I’ve been watching more anime than is probably healthy.

Aren't they? I'm going to cry when they get licensed- I heart dvds! (watching on my laptop gives me headaches )

I've heard Angel Beats is getting more meh as it goes on. Too bad- it sounds like it had a promising start! And too much anime? When you're sick, not possible!

The problem with Angel Beats is that now, almost at the end of the show, it still suffers from the same problem that I called it out for having in the very first episode:
Angel Beats? More like Kyoto Animation the Animation. If you thought So Ra No Wo To's character designs were derivative of K-ON!, then you'll love Angel Beats' characters who share character designs and personalities with Haruhi characters. The premise is nonsensical and the mood has been schizophrenic. There is a gun battle juxtaposed with a concert. Why? It is a mystery. If I were a stronger person, I'd probably drop this, but as with CANAAN and Ookami Kakushi, I'll be staying for the writer.

I will concede that Angel Beats has its moments, but they're just that: moments. Those moments would make a good show an excellent show, but here, they're just strung along like we're traversing some sort of Markov chain of plot events with no sense of pacing or buildup.

As for House of Five Leaves, I want to enjoy it more, but its pace is atrociously glacial. It has been a challenge for me to remain interested in this show, especially when The Tatami Galaxy, which is much more entertaining, is the show that it's compared against since it runs in the same timeslot.

Also, it's nice to see someone else following Oofuri.

Luvin' all the big-ups for Cross Game and House of Five Leaves. These are shows with a lot of heart that deserve a bigger audience here.

Finished Soul Eater and Saiyuki Reload Gunlock. I am pretty much equally sad to see them over...Soul Eater was the first thing to weird me (excluding initial anime shock) in years. And it was very refreshing...the colors! the characters! Everything felt so alive, as strange as it may sound. =)

Finished Aoi Bungaku, and I have to say..... that was so depressing! Except for one arc where I was moved by the power of two men's friendship, this was one big show of insanity and death. Interesting psychological studies, but total nightmare fuel.

But I still loved it.

If you're like me and a lot of other people and was disappointed by the ending, you may want to check out the manga for Soul Eater. The anime went off on its own plot that might not have been bad, but suffered from some issues and apparently the manga's plot is better once it differs from the anime.

Honey and Clover 7. This episode is my favorite so far, I definitely prefer it when it's being serious, but the humor was pretty good this time, stuff like Morita eating the carrot isn't funny, but this episode did the humor right.

Yes, I adored a lot of the ending elements but the last episode was so...anti-climactic. So many things could have been introduced earlier too and built upon. Thanks for the recommendation! I'll look into it. =)

Episodes 8-10 of Gankutsuou. Now that I am watching it on my own time, by myself, I can really get sucked in and WOW! Loving it. And still adore the artwork.

Any so-called anime fan that doesn't love Gankutsuou should be beaten soundly about the head with a large trout.

I have recently completed Sengoku Basara, and I really loved it. A lot. Like, I want to go watch it again, immediately. It was so much fun!

I will do a proper review for CAA later, but, for a quick rundown, SB is essentially an insane, manly, ridiculous action/comedy. The comedic element of the show is the action because it is just so over-the-top. Laws of physics are frequently broken as Dynasty-Warriors style samurai action gets bigger and awesome-er.

While the storyline itself isn't too groundbreaking, the characters are memorable and interesting. I especially enjoy Date Masamune, who often peppers his manly calls to arms with Engrish phrases, one of which is sitting beneath my avatar.

Watch it now so that when season two, which is taking over FMA Brotherhood's time slot this July, airs you can jump right in.

That likely has to do with the fact that Sengoku Basara is based on a series of games by the same name that are basically Capcom's Dynasty Warriors clones.

It turns out the weirdness (for instance, YUKIMURA OYAKATASAMA YUKIMURA OYAKATASAMA) is also carried over from the games.

Stick with it for a few episodes. The big payoff in terms of revelations comes in the middle of the series, but, even when you don't know every detail of what's actually going on, it's still pretty enjoyable.

Completed Birdy the Mighty: Decode, BtM:D The Cipher, and on ep six of BtM:D 02. The first season of Birdy was a bit uneven for me. The middle dragged on a bit, and a few times things came together, it felt a little too deus ex machina. This is because the first season follows the story of the original OAV while having a lot more time to fill than said OAV. Still, it was a solid show with good action and an intriguing world. Then I started 02...wow. Since Akane has paid due homage to the original, he is free to do his thing here. Once you get into the second season, it becomes clear that the first season, while being good on its own, chiefly serves to lay the groundwork for the follow-up. For anyone who loved season one (looks at CAA Radio crew) you will go nuts for season two. The pacing is leagues better, and the story is darker in tone and a lot more interesting. If Birdy 01 is win, then Birdy 02 is WIZ-IN.

I loved the season- however, what it has in characterization and personality, it suffers in art and animation. This becomes very apparent in the later episodes- it just doesn't hold to the standards in the first season, or even in the beginning of the second season! I don't know whether it's because the animators don't know how to draw children in that style or what, but I was disappointed.

Well that is slightly disappointing, though I do care about characterization more than animation quality (barring extreme cases, of course). I really like the new characters a lot. I find Nataru in particular to be fascinating.

*Edit There are certain instances of what you describe even in the first five eps, Atria. For me, this kind of thing prevents a show from achieving a 10/10 but doesn't, on its own, knock down a 9/10 story to, say 6/10 or 7/10.

Agreed. For me, it's just distracting, and I would take it down only one point for it. And man, what a fantastic story!
