A few years ago I would have said Gundam Wing, but upon rewatching the series I see that's mostly based on nostalgia. To be honest, I don't think the show is that good unless you 'grew up' with it when it was on Toonami around 2000. It has laughable voice acting and writing, and the repetition of animation and music gives me a headache. I still like it because I saw it and loved it as a kid, but technically I don't think it's that great.

What I DO think is great is 08th MS Team, which I believe is the best Gundam show I've ever seen (I've watched all the alternate universe stuff, and most of UC). The writing and acting is not corny in any way, and when you're watching it you keep thinking "wow, this is a classy show!"

I didn't make it through all of Gundam Seed (although I watched the end) because the whiny angst turned me off, and the guys creeped me out because they were so effeminate.

G-Gundam is good one time through; some of the UC shows are interesting but they're getting outdated; the rest are pretty forgettable.

Wow...I just realized I'm not much of a Gundam fan anymore! :p

I have to agree and disagree on that. I blame the GW writing staff from Japan in making it a bit corny. Just about all of the dub is very close to what was wrote in the sub.

The dubbing to me was fine and some of the people that did the voices in GW are very highly known people now. Most of them work on the other Gundam series.

Brad Swaile, who did the voice of Quatre Rabarba Winner. later did the voice of Amuro Ray in Gundam 79 and Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack. He also does the voice of Rock in Black Lagoon

Brian Drummond, who did the voice of Zechs Merquise / Milliardo Peacecraft. Does the voices of Flanagan Boone in Gundam 79 and Benny in Black Lagoon.

Kirby Morrow, who did the voice of Trowa Barton. Has done the voice work of Van in Escaflowne, Miroku in InuYasha and Gyunei Guss in Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack.

Scott McNeil, who did the voice of Duo Maxwell. Is better know for voice work of Hohenheim in Fullmetal Alchemist, King Aston in Escaflowne and Koga in InuYasha.

Nostalgia is still the reason why I watch it. After I saw GW Endless Waltz movie, I just like it better then the series. I just wish they could have use the mechas designs that were in Endless Waltz for GW series.

The only thing that I have a problem with UC Gundam is, the Gundam fan boys think UC is the true Gundam seires and just think all of UC shows are good.

This is something that I don't agree with. As much as I like Gundam 0080 and Gundam 08th MS team and I think they are the best UC storyline series.

I didn't like Gundam 0083 and Gundam F91. I just felt they are not that great and some of the worst in the UC storyline. Its true that some of AC series have tried to be the next gen of Gundam 79, but a few of them are pretty good.

Wow...I just realized I'm not much of a Gundam fan anymore! :p

I'm the same way. It was a few years ago that I saw that I wasn't much of Gundam fan after I watch Macross. It just won over my heart as old school mecha series.

Ahhhhhh!!!! Why I'm I just finding this thread now?!

Anyway, here's how Zeta Gundam changed my life: In the summer of 2002 I had just graduated from college (with no job experience mind you) I and I was trying to figure out what to do with the rest of my life (this is also before I found Christ, so unfortunately there were no prayers on my part). Then my brother, who has always been a huge anime fan showed me a VHS sub of Stardust Mem. My interest was peaked, and though I didn't really like the series, it made me think of the novel I had always thought about writing. Then he showed me 0079, which I really liked and I asked him if there were anymore. So after he laughed in my face he showed me this Japanese import called Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, and even though the subtitles were horrendous, to this day it is probably my all-time favorite piece of entertainment I have ever seen - anime, live action, book, manga, ect. (I'm not counting the Bible, which I definitely consider non-fiction)

The day after I saw Zeta in its entirety (sorry if that's not the correct spelling - I really can write) I decided to begin the novel I mentioned. It has filled me with so much passion that I have now dedicated it to the Lord. Now I just need to stop working 50hrs a week and write it. But at least I've finished the synopsis.

Why Zeta? Well, I guess because it was filled with so much tragedy, and I tend to like tragic fiction. In fact, besides Ideon and Victory Gundam, this series probably has the highest main character body count of any of Tomino's anime (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong). Which is why I'm a bit hesitant to watch the New Translation (the Zeta movies) because my brother told me the ending was different than the series, and the ending was one of my favorite parts of the series.

Also, thanks to my brother, I have seen every Gundam series or movie ever created, with the exception of SD and G-Savior, which I refuse to watch without being paid heavily. And Gundam started my love of anime, which then brached off to include Manga, cons, and clubs.

PS - sorry to write so much. Please don't hate me. :bootout:

I think Brad Swaile was also the main character in Zoids:Fuzors but I might be misremembering it.

Kirby Morrow is also in the dub of Melty Lancer along with Lisa Ann Beley who played Lieutenant Murrue Ramius the captain of Archangel on
SEED.MS Beley also played Kiddy Phenil on Silent Mobius.

I think Brad Swaile was an absolutely horrible Amuro, but that's just me.

Anyway, the reason I came in here was to say that I finally saw the Mobile Suit Gundam movies and I thought they were amazing. Yeah, they might be old, but who cares? I thought it was a great story and very well done.

Next on my list is Zeta Gundam. I'm really looking forward to seeing it.

I hope you do.

PS - I happen to think you have great taste when it comes to the MSG movies, and the dub. The only time I would listen to it instead of the sub is when I want to laugh. But once again that's just me.

If you only saw the MSG movies, then you didn't hear Brad Swaile.

Dylan Tully played Amuro Ray in the movies. The dub for the movies were done years ago, before Bandai brought MSG 79 series over here.

Yeah, I know. I saw the MSG dub on Cartoon Network a long time ago, and it was just awful. If they'd gotten the same cast that worked on the movies, it would've been great. I thought Dylan Tully was a pretty good Amuro, especially in the third movie.

The problem with that was, a good number of people that did the dub are gone or don't do voice acting anymore.

Edit: Nevermind, they never put the dub track on the MSG moives for DVDs. I forgot that Bandai wanted to be so cheap and never use the track from the VHS tapes.

It's time for the Zako Zako Hour!

. . . not.

Mobile Fighter G Gundam is probably my favorite series. Then again, I haven't seen a lot else [except for a bit of Gundam Wing + Endless Waltz], so . . .

Please keep me informed on Gundam 00. I probably won't see it until it's finished, but maybe not.

I'll probably have to pass up on Gundam 00 for a while-- there's just too much stuff to watch on my list right now. @_@ Though I do like the opening song quite a bit...

Okay, I'm sorry for a bit of a gravedig, but I’d just like to say I've just finished watching SEED. Since it's my first Gundam I really liked it but unfortunately due to very bad luck missed the last two episodes :( I was wondering which Gundam you guys would recommend I see next?

I would go with Gundam 0080 and 08th MS Team. IMO Gundam 0080 is the better UC Gundam story line.

The only down side to 08th MS team is, there is some nudity in it and the OVA is a side story to Gundam 79, the very first Gundam anime. The 08th MS team story takes place just right at the end of the war and not sure if people that haven't seen Gundam 79 first will understand some of what is going on in 08th MS team.

Gundam 0080 is fantastic. I've seen it twice-- once before I saw First Gundam and once after. I would actually recommend seeing First Gundam before you watch 0080 because you'll get more out of it, but it stands alone pretty well too.
