Ergo Proxy = complete!

Right now, I can't exactly find words to talk about the show, and my feelings about it are very tangled up and unable to be articulated at the minute. I'll just say that I freaking loved this series. Thanks to all who recommended it on the board (especially ThatDude).

I will now engage in some lighter fare...

Trying to catch up on Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. I don't know what it is, but I'm not getting near as much enjoyment out of this than I was with the first series (yeah, the story is better, but I think that it follows the manga so closely that it doesn't really seem any different)

I'll be glad when the DVDs are released in a few months(finally!). I don't really like having to sit in front of my computer to watch shows.

How is that show? I have heard different things from different people. What is it comparable to? How are the characters/plot?

Watched Hunter X Hunter 1-5 this week. Ahhh...not only is it really good/fun so far in its own right, its good and DIFFERENT from Ergo Proxy (not that EP was bad...quite the opposite...it was just intense!).

The character designs for both sets of twins are extremely likely to have been conceived of independently. Kyou and Ryou are not based on Kagami and Tsukasa. It's a common assumption to make since both shows were produced by Kyoto Animation and Clannad aired the season directly after Lucky Star.

Lucky Star (the manga) began serialization in January 2004 in Comptiq and Shounen Ace, both of which are monthly publications. Clannad (the visual novel) was released in April 2004. So Lucky Star would have ran in four issues before Clannad was released. Given the time it takes to produce a visual novel and a manga (read Bakuman if you're interested), it's pretty much impossible for Key to have cribbed the character designs from Lucky Star.

Also, I believe that Lucky Star really hit it big only with the anime, while Clannad was considered one of the top visual novels for a while (trading places with Fate/stay night once in a while) before it got its own anime.

Hunter X Hunter 6-11.

I liked the first disc a lot, but the second one is even better. I'm sure this has been said elsewhere, but, considering that this IP was created by the same guy who created Yu Yu Hakusho, there is remarkably little battling. Sure, you've got a smattering of general action and, like, 3 half-fights so far; however, the emphasis is on the characters and the world they populate. Having stated all that, I find the show just enchanting; my need to see just one more episode grows and grows. I love everything about it at this point. When the fights atually start...oooo...gonna be good!

I really like it. I absolutely LOVE the main characters and just the character development in general. So many interesting people. The music is awesome. I personally liked the plot (I laughed and cried many times) but I am perhaps easy to please:sweat:.

Comparable to? The other animes that came to mind when I watched it were Last Exile and Nausicaa (because of the main girl character).

It's definitely one of my favorites. If the mythology references don't bother you I would definitely give it a try. I watched it in sub.

Just finished a little anime movie called Angel's Egg, which I gather is Mamoru Oshi's first film. Very bizarre, surrealistic and...I have no idea what he was driving at! lol. I'll have to watch it again when my brain isn't so muddled from sleep deprivation, I guess. It feels very symbolic, and there seems to be a whole lot of Christian motifs, but I really am at a loss to explain what exactly was going on.

Right now I'm into Hetalia Axis Powers, Naruto Shippuuden, and Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood. But I'm a part timer on Tsubasa Chronicles, the original FMA, Kirarin Revolution, and Shugo Chara Party!

Since you dropped the Last Exile reference, I am going to HAVE to watch it! I'm glad you mentioned the music, b/c that's very important for me in a show. Mythology references are a plus in my book, as long as they somehow add to the show. Will Hulu this one soon. Thanks, Roz!

So I finally got around to watching the Baccano OVA episodes and they were great. Honestly, I liked Baccano!, but I didn't like it as much as everyone else. It turns out I was wrong and I seem to have liked Baccano a lot more than I remember. Or maybe it's just that the OVAs didn't have too many of the characters I didn't care too much about.

Now Gundam 0080 is something that I don't like as much as everyone else. I understand what it's all about and I know it's old, but I wasn't really blown away by it. Maybe it's been too many Gundams or maybe the kid is really annoying, but it's not the BEST GUNDAM I HAVE EVER SEEN or something. I did like it more than 0083, but I'm hoping that 08th MS Team will be much, much better.

Ok it's not an anime but I just finished the K-Drama "My Girl." It was poorly filmed but had a great story and was really fun.

How is it? I've been meaning to check it out eventually.

If Crunchroll decides to continue being good for longer than thirty seconds, I'm going to watch Durarara!! episode 1 in a little bit.

FLCL is fantastic. Pure GAINAX distilled, concentrated and aged. Several layers of meaning mixed between scenes that set the bar for what awesome is.

I watched up to ep 14 of Darker than Black. It's now growing steadly on me. I guess I only needed to see Hei being roughed up a bit and shaken off of his contemptuous, arrogant and untouchable schtick.

So the new shows I've picked up this season are:

Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu (pretty fun and surprisingly not terrible)
Dance in the Vampire Bund (tentative, this looks pretty easily droppable)
Durarara!! (why aren't you watching this?)
Hanamaru Youchien (Gainax's TTGL topper, I'm sure)
Hidamari Sketch ×☆☆☆ ( X ' _____ ' )
Nodame Cantabile Finale (might as well finish it off, looking forward to seeing how Chiaki Kon ruins it)
Ookamikakushi (not very impressive so far, but I'm holding out for Ryukishi 07 to do his magic)
So・Ra・No・Wo・To (I expect this to be the sleeper hit of the season)

And from before, I'm still following FMA Brotherhood (why aren't you watching this?), Kimi ni Todoke (if you like shoujo, you should be watching this), Kobato (I guess if you like CLAMP), and I'm still watching Utena with another forum and should be starting Zeta Gundam pretty soon. This should be a fun season.

I'm just about to finish episode four of Kino's Journey. While I was unimpressed and almost gave it up after the last episode, this last episode was amazing, and I look forward to watching the rest of it.

Introduced a friend of mine to The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya yesterday - we marathoned the first season in one day.

Today I watched Honey and Clover II. This anime REALLY took me by surprise. I'd heard so much good about it that I went out and bought the first boxset without watching it. Then, when I sat down and did watch it, it was a bit of a letdown. However, I continued through the second part of season one, and the more I watched, the more it grew on me. I love it now, and I'm very glad I gave it a chance past the disappointment I felt with the first part.

To answer your question Mr. Hat and Clogs:

FLCL didn't really do all that much for me. It was a bit too random and a vast majority of it was spent on weird, hit or miss aspects though I sense there is some kind of plot in all the confusion of FLCL. I just felt like the story wasn't really cluing me in on anything. I also found it a bit too off the wall at times. FLCL seems like one of those shows you have to watch a million times in order to get it. I didn’t really like any of the characters either (though character development within what I’ve seen so far of this show was pretty good).

FLCL is a show you'll either love or hate for me it was neither. It just didn't hold my interest at all and I grew bored of watching it. The music was great though. XD Hope this helps.
