So, you must understand Japanese then? Or is it that you'll take the translation of a non-professional fansubber who might not have a clue over a professional translation that can get information directly from the Japanese script-writers, and a DVD-quality transfer?

I can't remember the last time any of the larger anime companies in the USA ruined a show. Your argument holds no water with me.

I seem to recall reading an announcement about 4kids ceasing work on Japanese shows, but now I'm not finding any news on that. Maybe I'm just hallucinating.

4kids ceasing work on Japanese shows would be an answer to many prayers, methinks...

You may be right, I don't understand lots of Japanese. But I DO have a pretty good idea of what fansubbing groups are worth bothering with or not. There are amazing fansubbing groups out there, and some of them DO produce DVD-quality encodings of anime.

But all-in-all, I don't really care whether my standing holds water with you. I can think of a few bad dubs, but I'm not gonna bring that up. Bottom line is, I still sincerely hope that if anyone here in the 'States hopes to see Kanon, that they have to do it through one of those 'non-professional fansubbers who might not have a clue.'

You undercut fansubs, Triez. Lasting groups tend to have an fairly good handle on the Japanese language, considering they're doing this solely for the love of Anime and sharing it. Bad groups and bootleggers generally get caught and thrown out, usually by groups who know what they're doing. Again, not always, as their are a wide range and number of people, any one of whom could screw up the system, but there is trust among the more recognized groups. Not to mention fansubs occasionally surpass the quality of professional subtitles. Being fueled by passion and paychecks are two different things, and it shows.

The Full Moon wo Sagashite fansubs are an excellent example of this. The official DVD releases completely cut out the ending animation and replaced it with a generic colored background, which is pretty pathetic in my opinion.

Very, very true. Luckily, they decided to bring it back on volume 3 (maybe volume two, since I have yet to see that one), and I hope they keep it that way for the rest of the series. Also, the Full Moon fansubs had color-coded subtitles for each character, which is really an excellent idea when you think about the possibilities of the hearing impaired watching the show.

Yes, and [a.f.k.], which is the group that encoded Kanon, did an excellent job on it, and they've also been doing a great job with Lucky Star, which they are currently releasing. When a fansub is bad, you can tell. But if a group is doing a good job, you can tell that, too.

Fate stay night is not completly clean, I watched the series a little while ago, and towards the series it gets, umm risky could be the word. But its not completely clean, be cautious, its safe to say that you can just skip these parts, on one whole episode actually.
