I can't stand watching animes in Japanese, because in every Japanese VA cast, you hear the exact same type of voices; Prepubescent boy, innocent girl, emotionless characters, etc. English VA have way more realistic voices and acting. To get a good Japanese voice actor is nothing short of a miracle.

Though I've not seen it, someone told me that Kodachi from Ranma 1/2 has an ear-grating laugh. That being said, I don't want to find out for myself.

It's fairly ear-grating, but it works for the character. Kodachi is, herself, a very grating character. I walked in on some friends watching... Angel Tails, I guess it was? Anyway, the cat in the english cast made me grit my teeth. I can put up with bad voice acting really well, and it rarely if ever bothers me. This actually really got on my nerves. I had to leave the room the voice was so utterly obnoxious.

Edit: Scratch that. It was the freakin' hamster!

The great thing about dvd's are, it has both the Japanese and English track on it. Pick the one that you like or always use and stop whining about it!

Geez!

LOL. I heard she lost her voice for a little bit after playing that role.

Anyway, all voices suck. They should just cast a deaf guy to be every voice in every single anime. There! problem solved!

Edit: My bad, should be a Mute guy.

No no, not a deaf guy. Return to silent movies! All you'd ever need to have is subtitles! XD

They ruined Sanji from One Piece. Why did they give Naruto a catch phrase? Why Yu-Gi-Oh at all!? Retarded...

The Ruroken dub is only ok, but I much prefer Kenshin's dub. He's a guy... make him sound like one, please! XD

Except that, you know, don't know Japanese. "Feeling" that it sounds right does not make it right. My mom (Who is not totally fluent in English) may feel that certain things she say are correct and sound right, but really they don't.

No, it's so you can walk through the kitchen and not step on those little ice cubes that sometimes fall on the floor and melt.

Well, that would be a good, legitimate reason, anyways. XD I don't really know why, though.

Americans could learn from Azumanga Daioh.

Osaka: You can go inside without your shoes, right?

Yukari: Yes..

Osaka: Then what if they step on dog poop and go back inside home without noticing. What if the American dad, mom, brothers and sisters step on dog poop and go inside without noticing?

Of course there's a slew of seiyuu who aren't quite good, but like someone else pointed out earlier, it's hard to know if the actor is pegging the voice and hitting the nuances of the character unless you understand the language to a certain extent.

...o_o and I don't get shoes in the house either. What the heck people, it gets the carpet all gross. D:

I think that "subs vs. dunbs" is really not as big of a deal as many people make it out to be. There are both talented and horrible VAs and Seiyuu alike. It's just a matter of what you personally hear more of. In my case, I find it more difficult to catch bad acting when it's in a language I don't understand. Also, I really like to see/read/watch things in as close to the artist's intent as possible. Sometimes that is the sub, sometimes that is the dub.

Puguni wrote:Also, (seriously, no offense), there are some things that you just have to be Asian to understand. Just like Asians wonder why Americans wear their shoes in the house. I still don't get that.

To be honest, I think it has to do with the general Western mentality of "GOGOGOGOGOGOGO". There are many things that are done merely to save time. Taking your shoes on and off is probably one of them.

I will say that there are many very tangible benefits to taking off your shoes as you enter. I think most of them have already been discussed, though.

If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things."

XD And you're gonna get some smart aleck responding with, "Dude, you have to be American to understand why Americans do what they do." It's like how we'll always wonder why some Asians obsess to be fair/white-skinned and while some Westerners obsess to be tanned/dark-skinned.

I don't wear shoes in the house but neither do I do bare-footed. I do cute bedroom slippers. :thumb: Apart from cleaning purposes, in some Asian cultures, taking off your shoes before entering your host's house is considered respectful . I think it's like how Moses took off his sandals before entering into God's holy soil (something like that) in the Old Testament.

Oh, back to topic: Lynn Minmei. Definitely Lynn Minmei's English dub voice.

Many times in Anime they have people who are from OSAKA have southern accents...because I guess...Osaka people have accents so they try to do that here?

[quote="JesusFreak84"]And watching subtitles isn't for everyone, really. When I was a kid I watched TV with the captions on, so I guess I'm used to it. (Never knew why I did that, though]
I do the same exact thing! I have the captions on my TV all the time! It drives my mom nuts!

And to add my two cents into the "Shoes on/off" debate, I have to say, I kick my shoes off as soon as I get into my room, and wear either sandals or go in socks when around the house.

This seems like an interesting subject...::runs off to make a thread::

Anyway, back on subject, I think we should reiterate that we're NOT badmouthing the V/A's as people. We're just simply giving feedback to the roles they take!

Yeah...I usually take my shoes off at the door, or in the garage...with the other shoes, but i never wear them around the house...

And about the voice thing, I think everyone here is just mad @ the voices themselves and not the people who do them...for the most part...

I actually can't think of any because I always watch anime in the original language. And while I have seen some odd dubs by mistake, I didn't watch them long enough for them to effect me.

And while it isn't an anime, this would be the most memorable moment for me:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BU8-e-C4Uy0

And in my opinion, the Japanese version is even more scary. But I do like the voices more.

After about the 3,000th "Inuyasha!!!!" screan from Kagome, it started wearing on my nerves!

I would also like to add Ash's NEW voice to the list as well...I swear, it sounds as though puberty hit him like a Mack truck. Veronica Taylor was MUCH better than whoever they got now.

Genji's voice. Must kill Genji's voice.

I have to disagree with ya there! I just started watching GetBackers, and I actually like Genji's voice! It matches well with the character!

Bronx, Tokyo.

There is NO excuse for ANY character in anime to have a New York accent! I think Meowth from "Pokemon" started it off.
