The "second mouse" (George's old buddy who tried to call him at the end of the second episode) started to transform. Saya couldn't bring herself to fight again, so he tried to protect her. Obviously, he didn't do a good job.

i too think im really going to like this anime. even tho once again i didnt get to see the first episode due to the fact that i was out of town <_< oh well. i think i have pretty much caught up on it. it was just the fact that from what i have seen from the recap at the beginning of the second ep. it looked like a really good action packed episode.

Thanks, though I intend to watch it myself later. If I recall he annoyed me in the manga, so I hope his character evolves as the series progresses.

Contrary to popular belief, not everyone lying in a pool of blood is actually dead. Medical technology is fairly impressive. At least he's heavily injured, because in many anime lethal strikes to the chest are just minor inconveniences.

XD...

Nahh..he fell on a few packets of ketchup, give him some fries and he will be as good as new. :p

All Jokes aside: I think I am also going to like this anime. It seems to have great action, a pretty good plot and all that fun stuff. I think right now my favorite character is Saya's Dad.. I dunno why he just seems like an awesome character. ^_^ I also like the guy with the violin. and does anyone else think that the fact that he has a coffin for a violin case is totally awesome! XD

By "Violin", I assume you mean "Cello"?

(sorry, sorry, as a cellist I can't help being picky about that sort of thing)

Haji (Guy with the cello, assuming that they didn't change his name) is by far my favorite character. I really want to cosplay him someday. (assuming I can find someone to cosplay a certain other character)

I On a side note: I'm finding this thread to be extremely entertaining to read. It's quite fun to see the reactions of people who are enjoying this anime for the first time.

I read up on it at Wikiepedia when it first came out on AS to see wheter or not I would want to watch it.What decided it for me was the fact that Kari Wahlgren plays
Saya. She just happens,IMHO,to be one of the best English language vocie actresses
around. She certainly has the range of expierence from doing such different characters as Robin in Witch Hunter Robin and Lavie in Last Exile to Fuu in Samurai
Champloo.

Now that you mention it, I just realized that I've neglected to contribute an actual reaction to the show. Thus far, I'm intrigued. It's a darned pretty show, and the action is very nice. I'm liking the characters so far too, and that's a big deal for me. I'm still waiting to see how much forward momentum the story will gain, though. At the moment, it seems to have the potential to either move along nicely or bog down unanswered questions and overzealous artiness. I guess it'll depend on how the next few episodes turn out. Also, I'm not really digging the dub to much right now. However, I've come to accept that I'm always going to be unrealistically picky about voice acting, so I wont let it affect my assesment of the show as a whole.

You know, I've been thinking the same thing, mainly because I've got a cello of my own. Then again, coffin cases aren't exactly common, and the fact that cellos are heavy, breakable, and EXPENCIVE kind of discourages one from cosplaying with them.

Yeah. I was planning on making a lightweight coffin case with nothing in it. However, if you actually play the cello, I'm fairly certain that people would absolutely love to see Haji playing it. It would make for some excellent photo opportunities.

O_O; I am sorry...my memory serves me wrong.. I remembered it being kinda small... But now that you mention it, I do remember being a lot bigger than a violin. I am really sorry! D:

I bet you play it nicely! ^_^ Anyways it's still an awesome CELLO case.

Those of you who have seen the entire series, does action play a greater role later on? So far we haven't seen any choreography, and I wonder if there will be more serious fights later on or if this series is more character-oriented.

ChristianKitsune wrote:I also like the guy with the violin. and does anyone else think that the fact that he has a coffin for a violin case is totally awesome! XD

Yes. He's the only character that strikes me so far. Saya's father isn't bad, nor is the rest of her family, but they seem fairly mundane roles. Necessary and so far well done, but nothing special on their own.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. It'd definately make for cool pictures, but moving said instrument around conveniently would eman I'd have to work for it.

It'd certainly be a pretty drastic departure from the previous incarnation of the franchise they DIDN'T introduce more action, right?

Yes, later on the fights do pickup, Saya still really doesn't know what she's doing with that sword. However, from what I understand the show didn't do too well in Japan and there's an obvious budget cut in animation towards the end of the series.

I haven't seen Blood: The Last Vampire, so that isn't terribly helpful. My concern isn't so much if there will be more fighting, but if the fighting will be good (sorry, that wasn't clear). For example, Inuyasha is a series with plenty of fighting, but none of it is actual choreography. Thanks to Kai Robin for the animation comment; that is informative.

That's odd. Last year, TV Asahi published a list of Japan's 100 favorite animated TV series and it was based on an online poll of the Japanese populace and Blood+ was rank #41 with Cowboy Bebop being #40 on the last.

Yes, the one that I'm talking about was the polled that the general Japanese populace took part in.

I'm a bit fuzzy on it which is why I want to get the DVDs.Though from what I remember Saya's older foster brother is still **** at her for not being able to protect their father the way he thought she ought to have.

I think he's more upset that HE couldn't do any protecting himself, compounded with the fact that the girl he'd gotten all worked up to protect as well is suddenly the one everyone's looking to instead. The impression I got was that the apparent rift between Kai and Saya was just because he's trying to come to grips with the situation as a whole (and he's a sourpuss).

I saw an episode tonight ... not sure which one ... she's clearly not comprehending what she's been dragged into ... isn't she one of them, but raised as a human? She can hear their songs and such ... there's that one guy that reacts to their songs too .... I'm very confused by what I saw .... other than the chiroptera are evil and blood thirsty self regenerating critters. What the heck are they? I'm so in the dark .....

I'm glad there's finally some action happening again. I'm really having trouble maintaining interest in this show. The forward momentum has been... lacking.
