Tsubasa Chronicle. I love the manga, but... The anime bored me for some reason. I just didn't like it.

Night on the Galactic Railroad. I've heard tons of good things about this movie, but overall it didn't really impress me much. I think the extremely slow pace just kept me from being able to enjoy it.

Naruto FAILS ]

I think I shall now consider you my enemy :eyebrow:

I completely don't understand the Naruto hate in this thread, are people like watching a filler and judging the anime by that? Please don't XD Though the person I quoted doesn't fit that description.

Inuyasha, I recently went to download it, it might have been partially because of the incredibly poor subtitles, but after a couple episodes I just couldn't stand to watch anymore.

FLCL was hilarious too, but it was more of a "wtf?" type of humor because it was just so weird and out there. I enjoyed it a lot, though.

We're not necessarily attacking anyone's favorite anime...this is why threads like this are (usually) locked because someone gets mad that someone else bashed their favorite anime, and it begets flaming.

I'll answer your question even though you didn't quote me. I was extremely disappointed by Naruto, and I did not judge it by a filler. I watched from the first episode until about halfway through the Chuunin exam. I was disappointed because it suffered from "DBZ syndrome," that is, lots of dialogue broken up by sparse instances of fighting.

In the manga, this isn't really noticeable, because many of the explanations are taken to be side comments. But say, in the fight against Zabuza (when Kakashi was trapped in the water sphere), you can't expect me to believe Zabuza was just standing there listening while Naruto gave a five minute explanation about how he and Sasuke pulled off their attack on him.

Other than that, I wasn't very fond of Naruto himself. He was kind of irritating, but I could stomach him better than emo Sasuke who was a total lamewad and should have been killed off long ago, and Sakura was just useless in combat for the most part (yeah, I know she gets SOMEWHAT better later on but for the most part she still does practically nothing).

I love Rock Lee, he's totally the coolest character ever and his fights rule, but even he wasn't enough to save the show from dragging in plot and the unlikeable main characters. If you like it, that's fine. Obviously SC doesn't and that's his tastes in anime. I don't hate it but I was sorely disappointed by it and expected more. Those are my tastes.

Interesting you say this. I too am a major fan of the Dystopian Genre. (1984, Half-Life 2, etc). Exactly what was bad about Geneshaft? If it is Dystopian, It seems like something I would enjoy. However I'll take your opinion into consideration.

And I share your exact opinion regarding FLCL. I was curious as to why it was so funny, but I didn't find it funny at all. Despite it being only 6 episodes, it went by too slow for me.

To Eaglestrike:
While Naruto was very good and fresh at first, (With characters like Rock Lee and Shikamaru being my favorite) the series died pretty quickly.

Akira

I know it's a "landmark anime" and "masterpiece of cel animation", but it just didn't grab me.

I bought this "must see" title -- the special edition, no less -- about two and a half years ago, watched it once and haven't watched it since.

To put that in perspective by way of contrast, the night I first watched Haibane Renmei (not long after watching Akira, in fact), I marathoned it in about six hours, said "whoa!", then marathoned it again -- and after that, I watched it yet again before finally getting some sleep the next day.

I've seen the whole series 56 times in toto, and it remains my favorite show -- anime or otherwise -- to this day.

That would be the opposite of disappointing. ^^

ROFL, Wow, I marathoned that series in a day, too, but I didn't finish it 'til 3 in the morning. XD I've yet to watch it a second time, though I really want to--it's definitely one of my favorite series. :thumb:

I agree with Akira.

The manga was very well done, but the movie butchered the plot so badly just to fit in in movie form. They cut out important key plot elements.

If the plot for Akira spanned across two or three movies, the plot would've been handled much better and
Akira would actually be in the movie like he was in the manga.
The first major problem with Geneshaft is the repetition of a basic plot device that seems stupid (to me at least) the FIRST time it happens, much less all subsequent times. This plot device doesn't ever really fully fade away, being used basically up until the end, and even leads to the introduction of one of the most annoying characters ever created.

Geneshaft also has a very broad and inconclusive ending that really answers nothing for the viewer.

Those are my two biggest gripes, but I have many smaller ones as well.

That said, the events about 2/3rds of the way into the series are incredibly well done, and you do begin to feel for some of the characters.

As I said in my original post, parts of the show are incredibly well done, but the show as a whole has too many flaws to really be considered good.

In spite of the fact that they were the "bad guys", they still really just didn't sit well with me at all. If the series ever got licensed, though, I'd probably still buy a few of the DVDs with episodes that came prior to their entrance. They just kind of ruined the latter parts for me (even though the latter part of season one does have its highlights).

Just wanted to point out, if Mimi and Sheshe really bothered you that much, you might wanna check out the manga. Not only do the two hardly say a word in the manga, but the most they really do is hold hands. If anything the relationship they share was soley put in the anime to attract males. ._.; Stupid fanservice.

But anywho, none come to mind for me. Well...cept maybe Kanon and AIR. Haven't watched much of AIR, so I'll leave it out, but Kanon? From what I saw in the old version, it was pretty meh. Not to mention all the incest jokes and crap was way too much. Sure the art looks pretty, but that ain't enough for me to go crazy over a show. ._.

Oh seriously? That's good to know. I bought the first volume of the manga a while back, but I was unsure of whether or not I wanted to continue buying it because I didn't know what kind of part they had. I think I'll look into it again now, though; thanks for that info! :D

BLOOD+

For me.....

BIGGEST.....LET DOWN......EVER...........

After all that intense action halfway through when Saya came back in her new "killer form" I was estatic! She was gorgeous, she was deadly, and she was elegant! And then it went all downhill from there. We spent the rest of the series watching Saya fall asleep and get her but handed to her on a silver platter, AFTER her Rocky-esque makeover and comeback. After spending the next 20 episodes scratching how head wondering how she could possibly be strong enough to fight Diva, we are presented with the worst "epic finale" ever! The show, now out of money, decides to give us a sworduel composed of a few "epic twitches" and a few epic "oh no, please don't do that!" And Wallah! The series ends, a year of faithful fandom down the drain.........

WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Black Lagoon-
Was awesome at first, but became so sexual and pedopholistic I couldn't make excuses anymore and had to stop watching.

Noir-
They had a chance to do something special with Chloe and Kirika but just went the obviously predictable route and gave us a predictable ending.

Witch Hunter Robin-
Had a chance to be awesomely magnificent, but just fell short. Not one amazing fight for the "Eve of Witches"

Initial D 4th Stage-Ryosuke didn't race once, NOT ONCE!! WHY?!?!?

Wolf's Rain-I thought this show was a perfect ten until the last FIFTEEN minutes when they ruined my flower maiden with the horrible imagery, NOO!!!!

Honey and Clover-I thought this was perfect ten was well until the LAST FIFTEEN MINUTES AS WELL, as the parting shot of my favorite couple came for the last time I thought he was finally gonna confess and NOO!!!! I am still banging my head over this.

Advent Children-To this moment I still can't find an actual plot, I think SE dumped in the recycle bin of day one productions.

Burst Angel-all of it

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya-it ended, WHY ONLY 14 EPISODES, WHERE'S SEASON TWO!?!?!

Kare Kano-H. Anno just had to murder the ending to this, buy the soundtrack, buy the manga, don't waste your money on the anime.

Speed Grapher-I want those 26 episodes of my life back please, thank you.

Trigun-the only cool person dies.

Shakugen no Shana-could've been a real standout but then just became a generic anime, did we really need anymore "maid warriors" in the pantheon of anime?

Haibane Renmei-To me it was like watching a panning shot of a magical valley, and nothing happened. The end was touching but I only kept on watching waiting for the big mystery to be solved, which wasn't.

Gunslinger Girl-there isn't a second season......

We need to make a most amazing moments in anime you've watched to counter all this negativity!

I agree, though I only watched the first two episodes. XD It was just way too fanservicey for my tastes, though some would say it's not nearly as bad as other series. But I guess that's precisely why I wouldn't watch those other series. XD

Yeah, I forgot about Advent Children. Though I didn't expect a lot from it in the first place so it probably doesn't qualify. It was what it set out to be. An hour and a half of fanservice.

I fully expect to be shot for this, but I HATED Evangelion. I wanted to jump in the screen and smack everyone, then smack Shinji even more. Blah.

The Place Promised in Our Early Days was also kinda...meh. I watched it because my sister has it, but I don't think I'd rent it or buy it myself.

Ranma 1/2 got boring to me quickly. I love InuYasha, though the artist's (who's name I'm not about to butcher in spelling,) endings stink in general, on the off-chance she ends her animes. (I've read the InuYasha manga is still running in Japan.)

Not anime, but I was hyped to read my littlest sister's Nauruto manga, because the basic premise seemed intresting enough, but I found they cured insomnia better than entertaining. I didn't even bother with the anime.

Prétear's manga was a disappointment after how awesome the anime is. (The manga did come first, and I like some of the character designs better in the manga (cough*Kei*cough,) but the plot was...dumb.)

These are my opinions. They cost nothing and are worth the same.

JF, I have news for you. I don't mind the fact that you didn't like EVA. I can see why you didn't like it. And yes, she does end her animes. Maisson Ikkoku probably ended in the anime the same way it did in the manga version. (I'm saying probably because I have yet to see the anime version.)

Rumiko Takahashi. She's one of the longest running manga-ka in Japan having gotten started in the 1980s.She happens also to be one of the most successful.
It can't be helped that certain people have problems with the way she does her
series, then again perhaps they really aren't the type that people who complain about them should read or watch.Perhaps those people would be happier with shorter series that had more action in them.
Myself I really thought that the ending of Inuyasha was great as it set up for
the final movie and the continuation in the manga.
Maison Ikkoku is more of a romantic comedy so is in a different genre altogether than Inuyasha or Ranma 1/2.
There's no arguing with success and the fact that Takahashi's works continue to be popular both in Japan and here would seem to show that you are in the minority with your view.

It's the end of the world, what are you going to do? No, I'm not going to shoot you down for that. Evangelion is a very hit-or-miss series, and I'm not just talking about "People who get it and people who don't."

Evangelion blah blah blah (an important example, but everything I could possibly say about it has already been covered)

Same thing with Naruto, I guess. I love the manga, but the realities of how TV anime works pretty much doomed the show to be a pale shadow of its source.

Inu-Yasha was another letdown, if a more drawn-out one. I was all about the show at first, but by the end I couldn't force myself to watch the last episode.

The film Memories was kind of disappointing, even if it still stands as a big fish in the little pond of original, feature length anime. As a collection, three stories just wasn't enough, and only the first one (the haunting "Magnetic Rose") was really all that good ("Stink Bomb" is shallow and stupid, while "Cannon Fodder" is dull and under-developed). I might have been a bit more forgiving if Memories wasn't begging to be compared to the vastly superior Robot Carnival, but it is so too bad.

Tamala 2010 is one of the all time biggest let-downs for me personally. The buzz I'd heard was that it was a witty, trippy, intelligent, edgy, yadda yadda yadda whatever. Instead, it's one of the dullest, slowest, WORST films I've ever seen. EVER. And I watch Mystery Science Theater 3000, man.

Finally, in the interest of curbing all this disappointment and negativity, I'm going to mention an anime that ALMOST disappointed me, but managed to recover: Eureka 7. When this show first started, I loved it. It picked up on all the usual post-Eva concepts, but executed them in a vastly superior manner. The characters were actually likeable, the writing was well paced, and above all else the mood was refreshingly happy! Then the clouds started to form. First, characters started tossing names of people and things around for the sole purpose of NOT explaining them (and shouting “It can’t be!â€

Wow. I didn't realize there were so many anti-Akira fans out there. I personally enjoyed the movie, even though some of the more graphic scenes were a little sickening. To me, it was a landmark in animation (Japanese or otherwise), and almost revolutionary for the anime world at the time of its production. Then again, that's just my opinion.

I can't stand One Piece or GitS, despite attempting to watch them both. I also strongly dislike any Yu-Gi-Oh! series. *waits for fans to fling pots and pans in her general direction*

The simplest way that I can understand therapy is that we're born a certain way, we're taught to be something different, and we spend our whole lives trying to unravel it and ultimately align ourselves with who we really are. Life, experiences, traumas -- whatever -- they all add up to make you some altered version of what you are. So there's this battle that goes on between what you are and what you become, and it's been very important for me to unravel what I was taught to be or what I became. and to draw a direct parallel to music -- the closer I get back to being who I really am, the stronger the music gets..." --Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins frontman)

I've never seen Akira, nor do I really see what the fuss is all about. Plenty of films were landmark for their time but don't age well. Whatever you feel about the movie vs. the Manga or the animation style or whatever else you needle away it, this stuff was groundbreaking for the time. I've only seen a few clips, but if those were any indication, you simply did not do that stuff in a cartoon back then. So give it its historical tip of the hat and move along citizen. Move along.

As you said... I still believe Kadaj has some Oedipus Complex.

Production quality was amazing. But... everything else... like... like... sucked.

Akira: See above responses.

Final Fantasy Unlimited: It was just plain boring. I never got past the first three episodes.

Final Fantasy AC: I watched this expecting it to be nothing but an hour and a half of fan-service with a light plot. Instead, I got an hour and a half of fan service and no plot.

Steamboy: I was excited to see a new steampunk anime. While the machinery was beautifully animated, there were no good or entertaining characters and the plot was horrible and cliche'.

Inu-Yasha: I still can't believe that my friend convinced me that this would be something I would enjoy. After six months of nagging I finally gave in; only to discover what Inu-Yasha really is. NEVER AGAIN.

I'm certain there are more. However, these are the only ones that come to mind at the moment.

If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things."
