AS needs to advertise their anime

Postby mitsuki lover » Fri Feb 01, 2008 11:58 am

Clearly the one problem with anime on AS is it is not being advertised as aggressively as it should be.For example compare the number of times
Ani-Monday has been advertised on Sci Fi in past week to the number of times that AS has advertised it's own anime block.
Do you see what I mean?
If anime on AS is to get better ratings it has to be advertised more.

They just need better ads.

The ads that they do for anime are a joke now.

Toonami and Adult Swim had some really cool ads, like the Cowboy Bebop one and who could forget the two min long ads for Gundam Wing and Tenchi.

Even if they do aggressively advertised, its still not going to really help the ratings.

Just because Sci Fi channel advertise more for their anime, doesn't mean they are doing better then Adult Swim in ratings. They are doing fair, but they are not knocking the socks off on Adult Swim or anything.

Perhaps a combination of the two? More ads and better ads. If the ads are poor.. who's going to want to see the show? If the ads are hardly shown.. who's going to see them? I'm not sure how it works, but maybe if they branched their advertisements to other channel/stations?

They can't really. Adult Swim can only air their ads in their block only and not air them at any other time on Cartoon Network.

I know that TBS or TNT will not want to air any Adult Swim ads on their channel and take away from their viewers.

I thought TBS, TNT, and Cartoon Network/Adult Swim were all Turner networks? So why couldn't they advertise AS anime on TBS or something? (I don't think it would fit on TNT, totally different demographic.)

I actually think that poor marketing is one of the biggest problems with the US anime industry. How are they gonna get sales/ratings if nobody knows it's there?

Back in the days of weekday afternoon Toonami, they promoted the crap out of new shows. And they made GOOD promos, too. The promos for DBZ and Gundam Wing made me excited for the shows, so I made sure to watch them. If they had just tossed them onto the lineup with little or no fanfare, it would've been a pretty different story.

They are, which all of them are part of Time Warner.

But that's the problem, TBS is not really going to go out of their way to advertise Adult Swim, when they could lose ratings.

The only reason why Adult Swim can't advertise on the rest of Cartoon Network is, because of the age demographic. Plus, I don't think Adult Swim would really want TBS to advertise for them, since the would have to advertise for TBS.

This was talk about at one board a few months ago about this as why doesn't Adult Swim advertise on TBS and so on.

Well, if you watch TBS, they have those annoying little pop ads for shows coming up soon or next. Could you see Adult Swim having to do that for TBS, that is if they went that way.

A lot of it has to do with what shows are being aired on Adult Swim. TBS just couldn't go and start airing ads for them like that. It would have to be at night and really it would be the same time that Adult Swim is on. Even channels have to go by rules on what ads can be aired at what time they are to be aired. But for now, Time Warner only cares about getting their other service aired on Adult Swim, like GameTap and online shopping service Bamzu.

Really, its hard to say if advertise anime would work on Adult Swim. Comedy just does better then anime on Adult Swim. When Family Guy was on Saturday night, it was still beating anime in ratings and the anime series would come on right after Family Guy was on. Also, Adult Swim Fix is taken away ratings from Death Note, because the numbers for Death Note on Adult Swim Fix are a lot better then they are, when its aired on Saturday night.

This I can agree with to a point. I also point out that Japan and elist anime fans are just to blame for US anime industry as well as the US compaines that release the anime here.

Really, I think Japan needs to really awake up and try to help the US anime industry out more, but for now. They will just throw anime titles out to US companies like its a piece of meat and who ever has the bigger teeth (aka money) wins.

Well could it be that animes are not as much as in demand of the other shows, so AS doesnt really bother with trying to attract new viewers to the animes?

Well, there are movie theaters around here that run ads before movies. I would think THAT would be one of the best ways to target the appropriate demographic. That, and maybe internet ad campaigns.

Too bad they don't ask US to advertise. I bet I could make a killing.

I think it's best that AS remain a "public secret." Still, they should advertise their anime more during the time they're on.

I haven't seen any ads for a long while. It's like they advertise once in a full moon and then they stop advertising.Which is my entire point. If you don't know that show X is on and when it's on then you aren't going to be able to turn in and watch it if you're interested.
Getting better ads is just half the battle, the other half is placing the shows at a time slot where the target audience will watch.Clearly airing the AS anime from 11 p.m.-2 a.m. Saturdays is much better than from 12:30 a.m.-2 a.m.

Tell that to the ratings that they got, when they did air them at 11 pm - 2 am.

It wouldn't matter if they did put a lot of ads out there on Adult Swim about anime. Most of you hardcore anime fans are not going to watch dub or anime that is on tv. We know that the otakus and the elists are only going to watch one ep of anime on tv, then whine about it, saying the dub is bad and this and that about it being put on tv. Then when the anime gets taken off the air, they are going to whine about the anime being taken off the air and want to storm the channel HQ and burn the place down.

Yeah, the elitists ruin everything for the fans. They should just be glad we even have anime on TV because it gets more fans and in turn makes more money so that the anime companies can even stay in business.
