If Star Wars was an anime....

Postby Danderson » Thu Jan 10, 2008 8:58 am

Between the release of Star Wars Ep II and Ep III, Cartoon Network released 30 (aprox.) short cartoons that take place between the two movies. What made these three minute episodes unique for star wars cartoons, were not only the back story's they showed (which include Anikans final test before becoming a Jedi Knight....yeah, he actually became a Knight), they also featured action and camera angles that is erily similar to that of modern anime.....

I guess my thoughts after watching these cartoons were, "Ok, why couldn't the real Star Wars be made in this style (yeah, they did a little better in Ep III, but not too much). I seriously think it would've been a major help to the movies.

If u've seen these cartoons, I just want to know your opinion when it comes to making Star Wars using anime stylized camera angles and action sequences....Would it be great? Would it suck? Would it really make a difference?

(Just to let ppl know, I really do understand that Star Wars: The Clone Wars are more anime-esque then true anime, just like Teen Titans and Avatar)

I liked Clone Wars and think that more of the same would be very cool.

As far as the new movies being better as anime, they probably would have.

There's Star Wars manga. And Kenshin17 - there's a CGI Clone Wars series coming out this summer, except the episodes are full-size. Check out the Wikipedia entry.

Star Wars is better as anime. It's called Mobile Suit Gundam. XD

Seriously, though, I would kinda like to see an anime Star Wars series. Might be kinda neat. Don't think it'll ever happen though.

What did happen were manga adaptations of all three movies. I still want to get my hands on those.

Ah, I've seen those. XD I only ever got to flip through them, but they're pretty neat. XD

As far as the Star Wars movies being better as an anime adaptation, no. But if there were a side-story series done in that style, it could have a lot of potential and be successful like Clone Wars was.

The classics would not be better as anime, no. The classics are perfect as they are.

I only meant the new ones which do suffer from some....writing issues.

If Lucas thinks that money could be made and keep killing the classic that we know of Star War, then I don't see why he wouldn't for the sake of money.

That being said, I wouldn't mind an anime version of it, if Lucas doesn't touch it. I just getting a little tick off at him release stuff over and over that starting to kill the fan base collectors that had stuff from 70's and 80's.

I believe you can still get them. I know that I saw ep 4, 5 and 6 manga for sell at Dark horse web site.

If the used the style of the manga, this is what the anime would look like.

I personally think that if it were anime, it would sort of ruin what Star Wars was and is. I mean, we may not consider it really all that special, but remember that Star Wars was huge for a reason; back in it's day, there was nothing else like it. I think the newer episodes sort of sell out, but if they were Anime, nobody would have appreciated them at all. That isn't just because the sword fights wouldn't be as unbelievably executed, or the acting, or anything like that. It's simply that it isn't Star Wars.

That said, I wouldn't mind seeing some Star Wars in Anime form. yeah, I have seen what you're talking about I think, but I am not sure. Star Wars anime has potential though.

I saw this thread and was going to mention that there was a Star Wars manga, but someone beat me to it. I believe they have the "search inside" option available on Amazon for those books.

And my brother owns the Clone Wars DVDs. My favorite scene is the thing with rescuing Palpatine from Grievous. "I don't think so." *Ding-dong* *Whoosh*

Not sure how it would do as an actual anime...but it was pretty good as an animated series, considering that this hadn't been put into any movies at all and was an in-betweener.

Honestly, I think Star Wars would be very hard to do as an actual anime. The fast moving, quick cut serial pacing that makes Star Wars what it is would be VERY hard to do well in Japanese animation without costing a LOT. Even Clone Wars, with it's much lower level of detail, had trouble doing it right.

Clone Wars was vastly superior to the Prequels.

It would depend what studio did the anime version though.

If it was an anime I'd say it would be fairly okay. But basically your saying anime art, but same plot?
