I almost liked this show, and then I saw the ending. Just evil.

I saw half of it and I thought it was good, but I never had the time and money to finish it. It did feel like it was getting darker though. I hear the manga is even darker still

Personally, I'm not a big fan of the Berserk anime. I haven't seen all of the anime because it only covers the part of the story that I don't like. So from what I know of the manga the review looks accurate.

It is worth noting that the anime ends at the worst possible place. They basically had to end it there, because what happens next is
that Skullknight (an incredibly important character in the manga that was taken out of the anime) jumps in and prevents Gattsu from dying. He and Casca both live, though she is mentally broken by the experience. As of the current manga, things still aren't resolved for any aspect.
The rape is a lot more graphic there, as is most of the violence. But actually, this is the darkest arc. Afterward, things have gotten more light-hearted and I don't think we'll see another slaughter like that one. Gattsu still cleaves a few dozen people in half every few chapters, of course, so I'm speaking relatively.

That was the exact feeling I got. Thought I didnt actually see the orriginal beginning untill much later. Yeah, so ummm. Having a female character raped by some horde of demons pretty much broke the back of this one for me. Honestly, I probably should have shut if off a long time before.

It might be worth mentioning that the manga opens with a sex scene as well...
Depend on it. God's work done in God's way will never lack God's supply. He is too wise a God to frustrate His purposes for lack of funds, and He can just as easily supply them ahead of time as afterwards, and He much prefers doing so.
- J. Hudson Taylor
I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times." It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach. He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

According to Josh Christopher (The CAA member), the anime's ending isn't really the end, as the manga continues from the ending of the anime.

A thoroughly pointless one, I might add. That more than anything else almost prevented me from reading the manga further than page two. It makes sense, however, as Berserk runs in what is essentially a soft-core porn magazine.

The anime's ending isn't even the beginning of the end, in fact. Just the end of the beginning.

yeah. the manga's like over 30 volumes and still going strong. though the manga's a lot worse than the anime, it's a lot better. the story, the action sequences, the way the plot unfolds, and all the plot twists make berserk one of, if not, the best mangas ever.

Yeah I heard the manga really takes the story elsewhere.

I have pity for Beserk. I thought it was a great anime series.

Well except for of course the...

"water fight" scene
gay sex
demon rape

so if you can get past that...

10:1 odds that's what he meant, yes. The anime ends before the story actually gets anywhere and removes some of the better elements. Almost everything that made me care about the series, actually.

um, ok.
It was early in the anime series. It was when Guts and Griffith were talking together and Griffith was completely naked...and they started frolicking in the water together.

Well, let me just say that if anyone walked in the room while I was watching this scene I think I would owe them an explanation..it would go something like....."NO THIS ISN'T YAOI!!"

OH, I know the scene. That's the scene where GUtts and Griffith are both naked and throwing buckets of water on each other.

Regardless of my opinions on the topic, I think it might be best if we left off discussion of the relative stupidity of any given member and only continued posting here if there is specific discussion of the review.

Since I'm posting: thanks for specifying, Sheol777. I know what you mean now, it just didn't stick out enough for me to remember at first reference.

The series could have condensed to significantly fewer episodes though. I thought the animation was annoying in the way that the characters would attack or kill people and the camera would strafe up or down or across a still of that action.
