need a break from otakon or other conventions

i need a break from otakon, i've been going to it since the year 2004.

does anyone feel the same way as i do? I dont want to give up my love for cosplaying thats all.

Yes, I understand. While around this time I make the usual preparations for Comic Con, I won't. (It also helps that I'll be out of town this weekend).

Furthermore, I won't take my usual pilgrimage to Anime Expo next year especially if they decide to change the venue again.

But I can understand how you feel about needing a break from something fun. My dad, brother, and I were doing some sort of media event once for a ride at an amusement park we have passes for, and then we got an invitation in the mail saying that the passholders were allowed to come into the park one hour earlier than anyone else to ride the ride we had been extras on. However, since this privilege was only available for a week and maybe a few more days, my dad decided to take advantage of the opportunity. However, my brother and I said we didn't feel like it. I mean, he rode the ride 11 times that one day, and I rode it 10 times. As you can imagine, I was starting to get tired of that ride, and didn't really care about the early-entrance thing.

Besides, I don't wanna drive on the highway without an adult in the car...too easy to get killed out there. O_o

I think a break is good.

Remember C.S. Lewis' Law of Undulation: "the repeated return to a level from which they repeatedly fall back, a series of troughs and peaks".

Don't fight undulation. I normally would do all 3 days of Otakon, hang out in the Dealer's Room or Artists' Alley until the last hour, squeeze in every panel and seminar...

Not this year. I went late Friday, left relatively early Saturday, and didn't even go today. Not that it wasn't worth it, but there are other things that I purposely chose because, like you, I don't want to get burned out.

And, believe it or not, God gave me an opportunity to serve Him in a different way as a result. Again, not that Otakon is bad. Just that other doors await as well.

And I say this knowing that I may not be in the country next year for Otakon 2008.

Speaking as an Aspie who lives and breaths obsessions I can completely understand the need to take some time off from one. XD

I myself have taken numerous Anime, video game, computer, music buying, ect breaks. In fact, right now I'm taking time off from my Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan obsession from playing the game non-stop for three weeks.

So if you do feel tired of Anime conventions ( I have to agree with AsianBlossem, I'm going to my very first one this August! XD) then it would be a good idea to take some time off from them.

I will say I have been going to Otakon since the 80s in Hunt Valley for one day trips. I would take a break from it but its one of the two I attend now. I feel that the show has grown so much that at times I have thought should I go, but it is one of the biggest in the area. I can't always make it to Katsucon because of the winter in Wash DC with chances of snow which would have me working. Plus I don't like driving in DC and I understand there is not much parking where its at now.
I would attend Animazment in Durham NC but I don't feel like driving down there by myself. I did attend with the anime club I belonged to before it folded.
Neko Con I will be attending because I am part of the staff.
Anime USA is ify after Neko Con
