I recently bought the entire full metal panic series a few weeks ago, and i gotta say, i really love this series, but i was wondering is full metal panic fumoffu and second raid worth it? are they as good as the original show? i'm asking because i plan on watching those next, and i want to know if they're worth it.

I would like to point out something first. If you do watch Full Metal Panic! Fumoffu, you are not going to miss anything as plot wise from Full Metal Panic! or Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid.

Full Metal Panic! Fumoffu was a heavy dose of a comedy series. The series is pretty funny and I like it. But if you looking for a dose of mecha and military action, you will be displease with it.

Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid takes place two months after end of Full Metal Panic!. Now, I can't say much on if its worth watching. I only got to see half of the series at AWA con last year. I enjoy what I saw of it and had some darker tones to it.

Kaname Chidori and Sousuke Sagara go back-to-school and have misadventures and mayhem in and out of Jindai High School.

is it part of the main story?

No, its more or less a stand alone story. I look at it as something to watch if you want a good laugh.

Fumoffu is just random episodes of their highschool adventures and stuff. Fomuffu, while not having any major overarching plot, is incredibly funny.

The Second Raid has the same artistic quality as the first series, but it is rather dark and a significantly more violent. It's worth it in the end though, so stick with it.

Fumoffu is significantly more silly than the first. It's like Fumoffu expands on the comedy of the first series while Second Raid expands on the action and drama.

To put it all in a time line, Second Raid picks up where the first season leaves off. Fumoffu runs concurrently with the others detailing more of Sosuke's life in High School than the other series cover. The events seem to fit well as taking place some time between the students’ return from their class trip flight and the end of the first series or early in the Second Raid.

All three series are very much worth watching and all are high quality and well done. You can skip Fumoffu with out loosing any of the story that runs through the first series and Second Raid, but unless you just can't stand high school "slice of life" comedies, doing so would be a big mistake.

I will say that you should definitely check out fumoffu and 2nd raid...fumoffu basically revolves around the regular live of souske and kaname and you will be laughing VERY hard...If you would just like to continue right into the second season and into the next plot, head right on into 2nd raid and save fumoffu for after you're done...but i wouldn't recommend skipping out on fumoffu completely...it's that funny

Haha haha haha..must you ask? My friend! Do yourself a favor and buy both!
Fumoffu, while not neccessary to the main story, is HILARIOUS and well worth the money. For whatever reason, most comedy bores me, I never spend money on comedies because most of them can't get me to laugh, not even the "drop-dead funny" ones but man there were some moments in fumoffu that were just outragiously hilarious.

Second Raid is awesomeness in a can, the animation is better, the story is darker and the characters really show some true colour. While the first two series you have to take with a grain of salt, you can almost believe in whats happening in TSR and so you feel alot more for the characters, its definitely a step up.

GO NOW!

It's like this:

The first Full Metal Panic and FMP The Second Raid involve the longer stories found in the Full Metal Panic young adult novels. Fumoffu is the animated versions of many of the comedy short stories that the author of the novel series occasionally makes available, as a welcome change from all the seriousness.

Get all three. But it is is the first series and the Second Raid that move the storyline.

Fumoffu was hilarious, especially in episodes 8 and 9
